A conversation with my boyfriend this morning.

He's currently unemployed. He seems slightly reluctant to look for work and this was one of the reasons he gave. He said he'll earn the same as everyone else anyway when this comes in, and that everyone will earn the same, be it a doctor or a shop assistant, and we're living in modern slavery. Or we will be soon, as that's the way the world is going.

Could anyone enlighten me as to what he is talking about?!

I would look long and hard at him and say
Really! Where’s your self respect?

AnyFucker · 07/03/2021 17:47

Currently, you have no “future” together

Do you understand this at all ?

1FootInTheRave · 07/03/2021 17:49

He is a loser.

A thick one at that.

ExcusesAndAccusations · 07/03/2021 17:50

He seems to have failed to notice the crucial word “Basic” in UBI. A man too lazy to read a whole three words is unlikely to do a good job of the hoovering IMO.

Exactly and OP should be concerned about dating someone with no work ethic.... it could but her in a bad situation!
IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 07/03/2021 17:50

Given its highly unlikely to be introduced hes going to be writing a long time.

Many have the view point though in why work or work more than a few hours if the state will pay instead.

I’d not find anything remotely attractive about a partner with no work ethic.

Dayafterday · 07/03/2021 17:52

He treats you well? What with?

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
FreddyTheFlute · 07/03/2021 17:54

Is he also a weed smoker, op?

What was his job before he lost it?

Is this someone you think will be an equal adult in your life?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/03/2021 17:54

Boyfriend could treat me like a queen, he would still be an ex if he were thinking like yours👀

Going off experience on mumsnet, this generally means he isnt abusive??
Chimoia · 07/03/2021 17:56

He sounds like a catch op. I suggest you recommend he keeps more intelligent company on the Internet or you will be looking for more intelligent company yourself.

sst1234 · 07/03/2021 17:58

OP, the merits of UBI aside, make sure this boyfriend becomes an ex quickly. Otherwise you are setting yourself up for a future of misery with a waster.
Back to the topic, like others said, not sure where he is getting his news from but there are 0 plans for this anytime soon. In fact, even the trials in some other countries did not go as well as they hoped.

Bananarama101 · 07/03/2021 18:00

Are you in a relationship with Lawrence Fox?

Butchyrestingface · 07/03/2021 18:00

Yes he's a conspiracy theorist, and yes he's talking about the 'great reset'. He's pro trump and anti mask.

And doesn't want or want to work.

God bless you OP for sparing the rest of womankind from this relationship prospect.

Tbf to that tosser, I don't think there's ever been much to suggest he doesn't want to work.
KeflavikAirport · 07/03/2021 18:03

even the trials in some other countries did not go as well as they hoped.

The reports I have looked at tend to suggest it’s been a roaring success.

LalalalalalaLand123 · 07/03/2021 18:04

Oh god OP he sounds awul! What on earth is he even talking about? Get out now/soon.

LucieStar · 07/03/2021 18:09

Pro Trump would be enough of a deal breaker for me without the other ridiculous comments.

I guess it’s mixed at best. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/world-europe-47169549

In Finland, the only place, where it has been measured fully, It didn’t lead to people finding work, which is ok if the aim is to not increase employment.

He was a weed smoker for years before he met me, he's given it up now.

He was employed when I met him, I'll be vague and say he was a labourer, something along those lines. He was very generous when he had the money to be.

He's kind, loving, and no, not at all abusive. I really think he's a good guy. It's just this way of looking at the world I'm beginning to struggle with.

Does he live in 1960s communist Russia?
BishopBrennansArse · 07/03/2021 18:13

You know what? I work bloody hard. I'm nhs band 3. Not sure what that has to do with the price of dish?

MissDollyMix · 07/03/2021 18:14

Unless he’s planning a move to North Korea in the near future then I think he’s going to be in for a disappointment!

I thought it was, for example, giving absolutely everyone £50 a week or something

Although in reality I think it would be means tested.
