I will leave on the voting but I'm not being unreasonable

My nail is an arsehole and gives me grief on a daily basis and has done for several years.

Look at this swine. It spilts down the side and does it constantly. I'm always cutting and filling it back thinking it's damage.

But how I realise I have No Hope.

Because the a mother fucking line ridge type thing that's feeding it!

Split and fucked nails hurt and it appears that I'm destined to this for life??
What the fuck?

Where's the pic OP?

Batshittery · 05/03/2021 21:05

I see it now

Batshittery · 05/03/2021 21:06

I have exactly the same on my little finger. If you buff the ridge out, it stops it splitting

I don't know what this means?

I have the same but bang in the middle of a nail, splits right down the centre constantly. Had it for years Hmm

DenisetheMenace · 05/03/2021 21:08

No real idea but top of my head, do you get enough calcium?

wellthatsunusual · 05/03/2021 21:09

I get that too. Middle finger on my left hand. The nail always splits vertically. Very annoying.

24YearsAtTheTapEnd · 05/03/2021 21:10

No probably not. Breast feeding a massive toddler with little calcium intake and constantly bollock myself for it.

But could it really cause this issue??

In fact; it started before he was made. So perhaps not calcium?

You can buy a nail buffer. It's much softer than a nail file and you use it in the surface of the nail to buff out ridges/imperfections. I don't use it on all my nails, I just buff the ridge out

Littlepaws18 · 05/03/2021 21:12

It's either lack of vitamins in your diet or it can be a result of a unrelated illness, nails are funny like that the ridges can be a sign you have recently been quite ill.

Foggyday124 · 05/03/2021 21:13

I had it when I was doing chemo, it went away when I got rid of the chemo in my body. I’m not an expert, but to me that means that there’s an imbalance in your body that’s causing it. For what though, I don’t know.

Oblomov21 · 05/03/2021 21:16

I have terrible ridges. And many that split. Only since ds's. Before that my nails were so strong. I've buffed, taken vitamins. Nothing. Drives me wild.

snowblower · 05/03/2021 21:20

Might be an idea to make a Dr apt to get your bloods done. In the mean time give yourself a good manicure 💅 or book one when we are finally allowed out.

ToffeePennie · 05/03/2021 21:23

More calcium, vitamin d and buff the nail

Stoppissingonmyheather · 05/03/2021 21:28

Is that your toe? Put some nail varnish on it will make you feel much better

Ringshanks · 05/03/2021 21:32

I’ve had this on my thumb nails since breastfeeding . I spoke to the pharmacist who recommended some expensive (£16!) specialist breastfeeding vitamins which have been brilliant. It’s three a day but they’ve sorted my nails, cracked heels and I feel much more lively

Ringshanks · 05/03/2021 21:35

‘Vitabiotics pregnacare breastfeeding’- other pills are available.

This sounds excruciatingly painful
choosername1234 · 05/03/2021 21:38

Maybe psoriasis on / under the nail?

MumofPsuedoAdult · 05/03/2021 21:39

I have this on one fingernail and it only started in the last year or so. I'm peri menopausal. No amount of filing helps, it gets to a certain length and then splits vertically. Only keeping it painted helps a little.

flakymate · 05/03/2021 21:40

Have you guys tried nail repair products? Nails inc have a few different base coat options that strengthen your nails over time

FoxyTheFox · 05/03/2021 21:41

Have you ever injured it? I have three ridges up the middle of the nail on my ring finger, I broke the second knuckle several years ago and it healed into an inflexible lump. Ever since then I have a ridged nail on that finger.

Coughsyrupsucks · 05/03/2021 21:45

My Dad had one. I buffed it, cut a bit of mesh off a teabag, popped it on top, put a lot of clear polish on it, trimmed off the excess and it held the nail together while it grew out. But you should see a Dr about vitamin levels, just to make sure all is ok.
