Joggers should be banned from paths and pavements

As a car driver I find that the occasional cyclist breaks highway codes, cycles dangerously, or cycles without care and consideration. Key word being occasional, so no biggie. Just like how the occasional car diver is a .

But as a pedestrian going for a stroll in the park, the number of rude, selfish, careless and aggressive joggers i've seen is ridiculous high.

I see a jogger coming towards me, I walk to the side/edge of the path, but joggers always decide to keep running straight down the middle....

Similar to the above, joggers not keep a safe distance, and actually brushing past me.

And lastly, the worst offenders, joggers running side by side taking up the whole path, coming towards me, and giving me looks as if im supposed to jump out the way and off the path. ***

I honestly think legislation should be brought in to ban jogging on paths and pavements. Restricting joggers to grassland/cross country, outdoor tracks, private land, and the gym. The same way that cycling isnt permitted on pavements.

Running on a treadmill is awful.

Agreed. Hate it.

OnlyTeaForMe · 05/03/2021 16:26

When did everyone get so angry and intolerant?

I run/jog on trails near me - full of walkers/runner, dog-walkers, Mums & kids, even mountain bikers. On a sunny day everyone is cheery and tolerant of one another, opening and closing gates, shouting "thanks" and "lovely day, isn't it?" and "Morning!".

It's lovely and friendly and heart-warming.

On the very rare occasion I hold a gate open, or step out of the way of someone going faster than me who doesn't thank or acknowledge me I just shout "You're welcome!" at them and roll my eyes, not let it ruin my day.

Try it sometime.

TitusPullo · 05/03/2021 16:27

@BlackberrySky ooo I saw a walker with Nordic walking poles this weekend. I had never seen/heard of them before and was telling my friend about the woman who appeared to be missing skiing so much she’d taken her ski poles for a walk. My friend then let me in on this latest trend Blush

ItsMarch · 05/03/2021 16:27

This week a jogger run into my toddler who couldn’t get out the way in time. They then swore at us.
I’m with you OP. Bunch of wankers.

BalancedIndividual · 05/03/2021 16:27

@Ifailed

Oh good another runner bashing thread...

As a cyclists, I'm rather enjoying the lack of bile aimed at me at the moment.

Haha, the funny part is, i've noticed that cyclist and car drivers have gotten along better since lockdown. Ive yet to have an issue with a cyclist since lockdown started. And similarly, ive noticed that cyclists are being more considerate of car driver's.

Maybe due to less cars on the road?

Piers, is that you?

MordredsOrrery · 05/03/2021 16:29

Please don't move to my village, OP! I'm a jogger and I'll always move onto the road. However, because we're mostly reasonable folks out here almost everyone says hello and there's regular Mrs Doyle moments where both I and a pedestrian or dog walker will both try to move onto the road and give the other space - we're all insistently polite about these things Grin

Ifailed · 05/03/2021 16:30

You don't even pay road tax, you bastard.

Ah, happy memories.

(BTW, no one pays road tax, however all tax-payers fund roads, whether they drive or not).

XenoBitch · 05/03/2021 16:30

YABU
If I see a jogger/runner/cyclist coming at me, I always move out of their way. A change in terrain could be disastrous for them... not so much for me at my 1mph amble.

Globe22 · 05/03/2021 16:30

You are being rather silly.

fiveoldteddies · 05/03/2021 16:30

My DC gets really frustrated when running and a family group not making any space but continue to walk 4 aside each other.

MadeOfStarStuff · 05/03/2021 16:31

I don’t run or jog but still think YABU

The most inconsiderate people I’ve encountered on pavements recently have been families walking. I’m obviously not suggestion families shouldn’t walk anywhere, just pointing out in my experience it’s not runners who are particularly inconsiderate.

Runners/joggers are still pedestrians therefore they belong on pavements.

I do think runners/joggers and most walkers should be considerate that not everyone on the pavement is able to leap out of their way or even able to walk single file (thinking of elderly or disabled people who may need support if they’re likely to stumble, or parents with young children). But generally everyone who is able to should be considerate of others, whether they’re walking or running.

Thanks ItsMarch. I also have a toddler with me most times, and this is why im so angry with the joggers im encountering.

I mean they literally wont slow down the tiniest bit, and even when I start moving to the side they will blast straight down the middle, brushing past me. (I keep my toddler on my other side or in front where I can)

A lot of joggers even on this thread have openly stated that they are happy to go through people....thats the problem.

Yep. Same happens to me too. People walking in a line who can see you running towards them from a little distance away, no attempt to move to single file, just carry on taking up the whole path Hmm

Nancydrawn · 05/03/2021 16:34

OP, you want to ban dickheads. There are dickheads who walk, there are dickheads who jog, dickheads who cycle and dickheads who drive.

I am not, myself, a jogger. But I do know that walkers can be just as annoying--walking three abreast on a narrow pavement, ambling slowly looking at phones while the rest of us want to get to work, stopping abruptly to take pictures of things, swinging shopping bags or prams into people's shins.

But I have no interest in banning walkers. I just want people to act as if they realize the world is not made for them alone. In the meantime, have a Biscuit.

Yeah, I know. As a cyclist I've had plenty fun explaining why a cyclist's VED bill will be £0.
DenisetheMenace · 05/03/2021 16:35

Someone mentioned running tracks in parks.

What do runners think? Sounds like a good idea. Bit like cycle paths on some roads/footpaths.

Though with public funds shot for the next several years, guess it’s pie in the sky anyway.

Inkpaperstars · 05/03/2021 16:35

I do think there is a problem with many joggers, though I don’t know what it best to do about it.

In our local park there is a sign saying joggers and cyclists must give way to pedestrians, they don’t, and I have seen many times when children or elderly people are almost forced to fall or throw themselves to the side to avoid young fit joggers who refuse to slow down or swerve. Often they approach so fast people who are trying to move don’t have time.

I think if you really cannot bring yourself to slow down or swerve when jogging, you should find a running track or somewhere without pedestrians or cars. Parks should probably have running circuit tracks.

This has been particularly bad during covid as despite a lot of noise about how low risk it is, aerobic exercise increases your risk of passing on the virus to those you pass, just like shouting, singing or coughing does. In some parts of the city where I live, you won’t be just passing one jogger in an open area. I once had about 30 (I kid you not) approaching from varying directions!

UrAWizHarry · 05/03/2021 16:36

Don't you just love a thread where the OP has a magic filter that let's them see only the responses that agree with them.

As has been just said, we need a dickhead ban. Unforunately that won't help the OP as they clearly fall into that group.

Aloethere · 05/03/2021 16:36

When people on these threads people pretend they are running to save the NHS it always makes me smile, it's like they expect people to thank them for their service.

I run and walk a lot. I've never had any of the problems described here, it must depend on where you live.

Was she waving them aloft and threatening to decapitate people in her path? According to some of the threads on here, that's what they "all" do so "all of them" should be banned. Every single one of them 😂

NoKingDingaLingTitsInAbsentia · 05/03/2021 16:38

Have a Biscuit to keep your strength up with that big old tar brush you are wielding....

LucieStar · 05/03/2021 16:38

Who is "running to save the NHS"? Seems an odd comment.

Robintakeover · 05/03/2021 16:38

@DeepfriedPizza

Piers, is that you?
Exactly what I was thinking !

Not sure why you couldn’t just post on the other thread.

As either a runner or a Walker I move over to allow other people to pass ... I move to the left and hope that those coming the other way will do the same ... mostly they do and normally say hello good morning nice day etc etc ... I go round those who’ve not seen me ... sometimes people don’t move , my bug bear is off lead out of control dogs ... but I wouldn’t start a MN thread over it !

Maybe you just need to find a different place to walk ..see if you can find the kind of people I see on my runs and walks

BalancedIndividual · 05/03/2021 16:38

@LucieStar

Actually, if im being honest, ive come across this as well from fellow pedestrians in my park.

Now that I think about it, I guess the joggers stick more in my memory than walkers, due to the fear of getting run / pushed over.

Tbh, it could just be my park has too many wrong-uns....both walkers and joggers.

(Before anyone tries to be smart, that doesnt include me. Xd. I honestly just want to go for a walk, being considerate to others, and have others do the same for me.)
