Joggers should be banned from paths and pavements

As a car driver I find that the occasional cyclist breaks highway codes, cycles dangerously, or cycles without care and consideration. Key word being occasional, so no biggie. Just like how the occasional car diver is a .

But as a pedestrian going for a stroll in the park, the number of rude, selfish, careless and aggressive joggers i've seen is ridiculous high.

I see a jogger coming towards me, I walk to the side/edge of the path, but joggers always decide to keep running straight down the middle....

Similar to the above, joggers not keep a safe distance, and actually brushing past me.

And lastly, the worst offenders, joggers running side by side taking up the whole path, coming towards me, and giving me looks as if im supposed to jump out the way and off the path. ***

I honestly think legislation should be brought in to ban jogging on paths and pavements. Restricting joggers to grassland/cross country, outdoor tracks, private land, and the gym. The same way that cycling isnt permitted on pavements.

@Pimlicojo

So basically you want to set a speed limit for pedestrians? Hilarious.
Noooo! It should be like those Olympic walking races, strictly enforced. "You there! Your feet both left the path at the same time! In the road!"
UrAWizHarry · 05/03/2021 16:16

Oh do fuck off. People should be encouraged to get out and exercise, both for their own health and because a healthier nation is one which reduces the strain on health services.

Yes, some joggers are arseholes. So are some drivers, some cyclists, some walkers, some bus passengers and plenty of people who go to gyms. It's almost as if a person's chose mode of transport or exercise has no fucking relation to their character, isn't it?

Nowmum43 · 05/03/2021 16:18

@ravenmum

I take it you've crossed jogging off your list of ways to keep fit? Shame, as it is cheap and effective.

When I'm jogging I'm more curious about people who are standing in the middle of the pavement - outside a baker's or something. They will look up and see me coming from a distance, watch me gradually jogging towards them, but not think to make space on the pavement. Same with couples walking along together side by side. Every time I go jogging I will at several points have to go into the road to get past. If I was walking they'd make space. Not sure if it is because I'm approaching slightly faster so they have less time to work it out, or if it is just because joggers are not seen as a fellow, equal pavement user: you're a jogger, not a person?

This is how it is for me, I am constantly having to run into the road if there's on coming traffic or having to stop so walkers who are in twos and take up the pavement can carry on, rather than them just going single file! Drives me insane and mostly you don't even get a thank you.
TheJerkStore · 05/03/2021 16:18

Another one?? Really?!
What is with all the running bashing threads?

One of the most attractive things about running for some people is the scenery and the fact it is free! Not everyone has a running track close by or wants to join a gym.

It's the heavy breathing that gets me, if they could just hold their breath until they got home I wouldn't mind them nearly as much.

Actually I do hold my breathe , face outwards away from them, until I’m past ! I think I’m weird!

I was forced onto boggy, water laden mud by a couple who wouldn't go single file or move to 1 side of the path. As it was so slippy, I fell & hurt myself. 2 months later I am still in pain having torn cartilage in my knee.

Some pedestrians are arseholes & seem to believe that they have a 'right' to the path & I should run around then in spite of the conditions & risk of hard to me.

LucieStar · 05/03/2021 16:18

Have we had "huffing and puffing", "breathing in my face" and "pounding down the pavement" yet? I'm playing bingo. Grin

mam0918 · 05/03/2021 16:19

I have never once had an issue with joggers... I dont see the point in jogging (its not for me) but they are hardly hurting anyone.

Cyclist on the other hand are the scurge of the road, they should at minimum have to pass a basic road safety course (like a CBT) and pay basic insurance incase the hurt anyone or damage anything, I mean cyclists colliding with padestrians have litrally killed before and they can cause damage to property too so why is insurance not compulsory like on all other vehicals?.

Miseryl · 05/03/2021 16:19

Dog walkers and their animals are the worst. At least joggers don't shit everywhere.

RandomLondoner · 05/03/2021 16:19

I think pedestrians are the least considerate class of people. On the paths I'm thinking of, which have pedestrians and joggers and cyclists, the pedestrians walk side-by-side blocking the full width of the path, and make little effort to get out the of the way of people travelling faster. There is no option for joggers and cyclists to go around them. (Canal on one side and brick wall on the other.) Sometimes two people with buggies manage to space themselves out so no-one can pass, even though there's more than enough space to walk side-by-side without blocking anyone.

Dentistlakes · 05/03/2021 16:20

I’ve seen bad behaviour from both joggers and walkers, but tbh more frequently from walkers.

In the past 6 months, I can think of just 2 occasions I’ve seen selfish runners, running 2 abreast acr

BalancedIndividual · 05/03/2021 16:20

@ravenmum

I stick to walks, and do various HIIT, body weight exercises and light weights, at home (gym when it reopens).

The reason I stopped jogging/running is because I tended to lose a lot of overall weight fairly quickly, and ended up looking slightly lanky and not toned. Whereas I find my current regime works better for me. But I think everyone has a different regime that works for them.

I think you're a gem! Wish there were more people as 'weird' as you. Flowers

I definitely ‘pound down the pavement ‘

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/03/2021 16:21

What if someone is late for the bus? Are they allowed to run for it?

Once somebody bumped into me at a gym and didn't apologise.

You, as someone who goes to the gym, must therefore be a complete arsehole and all gyms should be closed.

Oh, wait, that would be a stupid thing to say, wouldn't it?

BlackberrySky · 05/03/2021 16:22

If MN is to be believed, we should be banning:
Cycling
Jogging
Nordic walking poles
Dogs
Toddlers
Teenagers

Perhaps the message is we could all do with a bit of empathy and tolerance?

are you "weighed down by tech" too?

That was another gem from the runner bashing thread from the other day. Grin

rainyskylight · 05/03/2021 16:22

Why should joggers have to go in the road to avoid couples and groups of people who refuse to drop into single file for 5 seconds. It’s perfectly possible to do so whilst still holding hands with a DC. Where I am I have to go into the road to avoid these selfish people, and then because the roads are lined with parked cars I have to run down the middle of the road. People who refuse to drop into single file to allow others to pass - runners, cyclists, walkers, whoever - they are the true villains here. It’s so effing rude I hate them.

Restawhile · 05/03/2021 16:22

I’m a non shitting walker , runner , dog walker. Thanks 👍🏻

Ifailed · 05/03/2021 16:23

Oh good another runner bashing thread...

As a cyclists, I'm rather enjoying the lack of bile aimed at me at the moment.

sunflowertulip · 05/03/2021 16:23

I have literally had zero problems ever with runners on the pavement and, when running, only ever had one issue with a pedestrian which was 100% her issue and not mine. I find, where we live, cyclists, scooters, families, dog walkers and runners etc rub along nicely together (a lot of shared use pavements here, new town). I fall into most of those groups and think I'm considerate to everyone out and about!

TheJerkStore · 05/03/2021 16:24

But I think everyone has a different regime that works for them.

No shit 🙄

Mine involves going outside for a run because I like the fresh air!! Running on a treadmill is awful.

Not sure what happens there!

Running 2 abreast across the entire pavement and in one case a group of 6 running in a group the entire breadth of the promenade so I had to practically dive onto the beach to get out of their way. Generally the ones I see are respectful and move out of the way of pedestrians. That said, I run very early in the morning when it’s quieter. IMO it’s far too busy to run during the day when so many people, are out and about and I avoid those times like the plague.

There are just too many people about at the moment because there’s nothing else to do. Hopefully that will resolve itself once things open up again and we can all get back to successfully avoiding each other!

You don't even pay road tax, you bastard.

Don't want you getting too smug.
