Can someone please help me solve this riddle?

Was put on parents group chat and driving me mad. Person posting says it's so easy that even 'toddlers could work it out if they read it properly'.

Riddle - there are three tarantulas in a round tank and five tarantulas in a rectangle tank. How many legs are in the rectangle tank?

I did the obvious 5x8 = 40 but obviously that's not it...anyone any idea?

I'd say, because if the weird "rectangle tank" the PPs are right, and it is 1.

However, rectangular tank would work the same.

I'm going to ask if it's because a tank has no legs so the answer would be 0.

I think there’s a potential it’s been written down wrong (not by op, but other person) and should be 0, as pointed out by previous posters and should be ‘how many legs does the rectangle tank have’?

Is it to do with the structure of the actual tank?

None, a rectangle tank has no legs, I think I've seen this somewhere before.

It says 'are in' the tank though so 0 would be disappointing just because a tank doesn't have legs itself - my cupboard has no plates attached to it but it has plenty in it.

What does the round tank have to do with it?

I’m another one convinced that something had been lost in translation. Not necessarily you OP, it might have been the person in your WhatsApp group.

As a clue that doesn’t work and is badly written if the answer is 0 (and the “rectangle” use is odd, too) because a tank doesn’t have legs. Riddles can be really annoying, but they should be tightly worded so they are TRUE.

Reading it again i think this is it.

Either 0 - tanks don't have legs or

40 - there are 3 tarantula spiders in a round tank, which is in a rectangle tank, which contains 5 tarantula spiders.

If the 5 spiders include the 3 in the round tank, then there are 5 x 8 legs in the rectangle tank.

Is it 16?

3 of them are in the round tank which is sitting in the rectangle tank and a total of 5 in the rectangle tank but only 2 are actually standing in the rectangle tank (because the round tank prevents the first 3 from being in the rectangle tank.

That's my guess. It's a shit riddle.

The answer is 64 stupid riddle. I'd be VERY impressed if a toddler could work that out. Don't even think my seven year old daughter could!

Is it one the sender has made up themselves? Because they’re always a bit ropey in my experience
