To hate brushing my teeth?

Lighthearted but I mean - really hate! I obviously do it (although I'm ashamed to admit perhaps not as early on in the day as I should in lockdown Blush. I mean - we can put people on the moon and equipment on Mars - you'd think there must be a simpler way!!!!

Made me think of other first world problems I really hate - such as getting petrol!!! Think I'm just being very grumpy today.....

It's the fucking toothpaste I hate. The mint is so strong, it feels as though it's burning.

Okbutnotgreat · 01/03/2021 11:55

I actually like brushing my teeth and usually get told off by my dentist for over brushing. It’s like a little bit of me time before the day gets going and I read the news (or MN) on my phone while I brush. Electric toothbrush makes it very simple and a fresh clean mouth is a lovely feeling.

Symbion · 01/03/2021 11:57

I see your brushing and raise you flossing. Ugh.

@Mydogisagentleman would non-foaming toothpaste help? Oranurse is non-flavoured and non-foaming (more or less) and helps our son so much.

TheLeadbetterLife · 01/03/2021 11:57

I hate it too. It's only two minutes, but I always get antsy and feel like I should be doing something else at the same time to be more efficient. Sometimes I wander into the kitchen as if there's anything I could usefully do while brushing (there isn't), getting toothpaste all down me as I go.

Then I'll proceed to waste many minutes* on twitter.

I have found my people!

And Im another one who has a rubbish gag reflex and always managed to get toothpaste down myself too.

HearMeSnore · 01/03/2021 12:27

You're not alone. My DH considers tooth-brushing a chore he could do without. I'm always having to remind him otherwise he'd never do it.

It's funny the things people see as chores. My friend's DH finds eating a chore. If there was some kind of all-in-one nutrition pill he could take instead, he would.

TheChip · 01/03/2021 12:34

I hate it too. It just seems like effort, as if I could be doing something better with my time. Even though I plan on just sitting until I wake up properly lol. Electric toothbrush has made it so much more tolerable.

The other thing I hate is shaving. If I could just click my fingers and have hair drop off my legs and pits that would be great. I'm often rocking the yeti look because I just cba. Thankfully I'm single so nobody knows. Just me...and now whoever reads this.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 01/03/2021 12:35

YANBU it feels like a huge chore for something that only takes a couple of minutes, even now I’ve swapped my manual brush for an electric one so it’s more “fun”. Plus I drool really badly and end up with froth all down my chin and over my hand FFS! Oh my god, why I have to produce so much of it I don’t know, I’m worse than a Bullmastiff🙄. An orthodontist said to me once, “you’re one of those people who dribble when anything goes in your mouth”! (Oooh err!) 😳

Oh, and it’s so bloody inconvenient having to wait 30-60 minutes after eating or drinking anything to allow the enamel to reharden before brushing too. Seriously, I’ve just had brunch, then a cuppa, and now I have to wait until past 1pm before I can bush, then in a couple of hours I’ll eat something or have another cuppa (with a little sugar). What’s the bloomin’ point!? 🙄

CandidaAlbicans2 · 01/03/2021 12:37

I would adore a body size dysentery blade drier
Hmmm, I’m not sure I share your enthusiasm for that @Mydogisagentleman, but to each their own 😆

@FangsForTheMemory I’ve found the cheapy supermarket and chemist own brands are much better in that respect (and they do the same job as far more expensive big brands...I hope)

bananamonkey · 01/03/2021 12:39

I feel the same about getting dressed, I don’t know why but I really resent the time it takes

Okbussitout · 01/03/2021 12:40

I don't like it. It's like a sensory thing for me with the toothpaste so I need it to be quite wet and then it's messy. So I do mine in the shower on a morning which I like way more.

Scoobygang7 · 01/03/2021 12:40

@AgentProvocateur

I hate drying myself after a shower. I would love an adult size drying cabin that you’d stand in for three minutes and come out dry Grin
They have those at Alton Towers at the log flume. Can fit 2 adults in at the same time
flakymate · 01/03/2021 12:41

I don’t. I have a fancy expensive toothbrush that lights up and comes with an app so it’s genuinely a pleasure to use! I’m a tech fan so if anything, it makes me sad that I barely get to use my toothbrush as much as my other gadgets!

Oh I wish I thought eating was a chore Grin

Poppins2016 · 01/03/2021 12:45

I feel the same, even down to the 'getting petrol' comparison. It's irritating and an inconvenience, but necessary.

OMG me too, for both of those

Hate hate hate brushing my teeth, makes me gag
Hate hate hate getting out my car to get petrol

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 01/03/2021 12:50

The whole morning routine sucks, getting up is the worst, then flossing, dental sticks, electric toothbrush - massive palaver as I have several dental implants which have to be kept immaculate or they will fall out of my head eventually, then shower, wrestle unkempt hair into shape, put makeup on, get dressed.
If only I could wake up and be ready to go.

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 01/03/2021 13:25

For anyone who really hates the “mintiness” of toothpaste, I really recommend the Marvis range of toothpaste. Love their retro packaging and they have lots of non-traditional flavours.

I have a friend who cannot stand toothpaste. She gags aswell.
She has found the toothpaste gel much better

thereisonlyoneofme · 01/03/2021 15:13

Have them all out get a set of false ones then you can leave them in a glass overnight to soak Grin

Runnerduck34 · 01/03/2021 15:55

@sparklfairy i think we have same brand of toothbrush! And youre right the timer function is definitely on a go slow, theres me thinking Ive brushed well and nearly finished I look at the clock its still only at 40 seconds😆 2-3 minutes is a long time to brush your teeth, ive learned to block out the sad face next to the clock!

ChristOnAPeloton · 01/03/2021 16:01

YANBU! Not least because our bathroom is the coldest room in the house. Hanging around there doing any personal care is more akin to slaving in a Siberian gulag than a “home spa” experience.

Hahaha I'm glad I'm not alone! I've been known to put the clock face down to hide the sad face, and once said to it (in my head obviously), look, it's a compliment okay, you brushed my teeth super well in half the time!' Grin

It's a really good toothbrush tbf despite being judgy-mcjudgy as @minou123 said!

Ileflottante · 01/03/2021 16:33

Oh god no, I love brushing my teeth! I swill, floss, brush, swill. I love how clean and fresh I feel after. But then I love going to the dentist too, probably because I look after my teeth.
