AIBU?

AIBU to hate my new induction hob or am I just stupid?

2 months after a disastrous oven replacement (basically they said they couldn't fit it due to the gas pipe so we had to get an induction hob - don't get me started, thats another story...) I still hate the induction hob. I feel utterly miserable as I have just tried and failed to do pancakes. No matter what type of pan I tried I could not get it right. Lots of other reasons to hate it as it's just not as nice and reliable as gas. Only thing is it is a dream to clean. Can I still get used to it or am I just stupid. Any other experiences?

I make pancakes on mine 😊 can you share what the problem is with making pancakes on your induction.

For us, getting a nice thin crepe pan was key, and now it is a doddle

I hated induction, I have gas again now.

Love mine, especially the timers so the pan stops boiling/ simmering and you don’t have to watch over it all.

The thing I find with mine is, that different pans heat to noticeably different temperatures.

I have a small frying pan, which seems to need a much lower heat than my wok type pan. It's caught me out a few times until I got familiar with it.

I love how easy mine is to clean and it's great to use it as an additional surface. It's makes the kitchen look much tidier :-)

I love mine- heats up & cools so quickly. What's the specific issue? Mine has different sized heat rings so if you had a frying pan on a small ring it probably wouldn't heat evenly.

Have an over designed induction hob. It turns off ‘intuitively’ which actually means when the pan is moving slightly off centre of the ring, it locks itself constantly and beeps all the fucking time warning me of something or other

It has clearly been designed by someone who never cooks, most likely a man

Have had my induction for 6 years but I do miss my gas hob- I know it sounds weird but food tasted better cooked with gas 😂🙈

Get yourself a le creuset crepe pan for the best pancakes. Game changer.

Reading many of the polls on mn on induction jobs, that vast majority love the , me included.
I agree it take a period of adjustment to work out what temp and which pan.

I love mine but I think they do vary in quality! Did you get a good one?!

It takes getting used to but I think mine heats far more evenly than my old gas one.

Can recommend IKEA pans for them, they're great. I also have le creuset and they're brilliant on the induction.

I love mine so much. I've been cooking with induction for 13 years now and I would never go back. Stick with it.

What is the problem with your pancakes OP? Are they burning or not cooking? I find with mine the first couple of pancakes are rubbish but after that they are great. I do find that some pans get hotter than others on my hob. It did take me a while to get used to not having gas.

Can you put a heavy le creuset on one? I just got an induction and been afraid to use my huge cast iron pot, so I really hate it.

I hated the induction hob in one of our rentals abroad. I far preferred the ceramic bobs. Having returned to UK, I am back to cooking on my range and the slab of cast iron that is the hob.

Gah, ceramic hobs. Far prefer my cast iron hob.

I love my induction hob. Some pans are better than others on it though. I have a frying pan that seems to go really hot in the centre and not cook things around the edge. Just got some new pans though from Lakeland and they are fantastic.

I hate induction too. Plus my chef fiancé would never have anything other than gas

I have an induction and love it. I cook lots and honestly can’t work out what would cook better on gas.
What brand is the induction? Is it possible it’s not heating the pan evenly? Pancakes should be easy on one.

Oh and sympathies. It’s crap when you spend money and aren’t happy with it. Especially something you use on a daily basis!

I hate them and was delighted to get back to gas.

However many people love them so hopefully they will be along to show you the way (of the induction cult Grin)

Why don't you tell us what was wrong with your pancakes and we'll see if we can help you.

There is definitely a period of adjustment with an induction hob and working out what pan works at what temperature.

I have had mine years and absolutely love it.

Well some top chef actually do use them www.vice.com/en/article/78mvqa/why-londons-top-chefs-are-all-cooking-on-99-induction-hobs

I like mine. I agree, it has taken a while to learn what settings do what. Im very pkeased to hae gas out of the kitchen, I'm sure it made me cough. I recently found out gas gives off nitrogen dioxide when it burns Shock so that might be why!!!!

I love mine and would never have anything else again. Never found an issue cooking anything on it.

@Intruiged I use le crueset cast iron all the time on induction. It’s great on it.

Did you buy pans that are compatible? We had to buy new ones when we switched to induction as our old ones weren't. I wouldn't switch back now, but we did try and go for a good quality one too.
