AIBU?

AIBU to hate my new induction hob or am I just stupid?

2 months after a disastrous oven replacement (basically they said they couldn't fit it due to the gas pipe so we had to get an induction hob - don't get me started, thats another story...) I still hate the induction hob. I feel utterly miserable as I have just tried and failed to do pancakes. No matter what type of pan I tried I could not get it right. Lots of other reasons to hate it as it's just not as nice and reliable as gas. Only thing is it is a dream to clean. Can I still get used to it or am I just stupid. Any other experiences?

I hate them, will only cook on gas.

But cooking pancakes is the same in any hob: not too much oil, wait until the oil starts evaporating, then pour in batter.

Love ours - quick, clean, green, safe & space saving.
House isn't on gas anyway though so technically no choice.
But I do get the intuitive thing of cooking on a flame.

It is absolutely shit. Gas is 100% better.

I was prepared to hate mine, but gave in to dh as I got the fridge I wanted more than I didn't want the induction.
Love it. Never had any problems with it. (dh loves the fridge too now BTW)
We have a Rangemaster.

Even within the same brand some induction hobs are great but others don’t heat evenly and are not responsive enough.

Another convert from gas and would never go back. We have a Neff hob and it has a 'domino' area which allows for larger or oblong pans. Le Creuset works brilliantly on it as does stainless steel. It's a bit less efficient with non stick. I wasn't sure at first but was quickly won over.

I love my Neff induction hob, it's so controllable. I don't have expensive pans and they all work fine.
A tip for pancakes - fry them in butter, not oil - every one will be perfect.

I love my induction hob and cook pancakes every weekend in a non-stick pan with no issues. I use a gas hob at work, and in my experience stuff like pancakes, omelettes, scrambled eggs stick and burn in stainless steel pans, regardless of whether I'm cooking on gas or induction.

I was really doubtful about an induction hob but chose one to replace my gas cooker when we had the kitchen redone. I love the clean lines and ease of use. I make sure that I wipe the hob down at the end of each day and it gives me joy to see the shine. The gas hob was a nightmare with lots of crevices that were hard to clean.
I gave away my lecruset pans as I thought they wouldnt work on the induction hob -although i would still have been nervous about the scratches though .
I bought a cheap set of pans when I first had the hob but didnt like them much. I then bought a lovely set of Barbrantia non stick pans and I love them . They work so much better and I havent yet burned anything in them.
I think you just need to try different combinations of rings & pans to get the right cooking experience for you.

I now have an induction hob and find it so much harder than my old hob. If I lift the pan when I want to move the pan contents around it beeps in complaint. I know my pan isn’t on the hob - I just picked it up because I want to!

Sometimes it just turns itself off. I can only assume it’s some form of helpful or security ‘feature’ but twice now I’ve come to dish up dinner only to find that the hob has turned itself off, so my rice is raw but my oven baked food is cooked.

My old house had an electric hob which I didn’t much like but I find the induction much harder work. I long for a gas hob.

We have induction and I love it. We bought Kirkland stainless steel pot set from Costco about 6 years ago. They have very thick bottoms and work beautifully. We have Jamie Oliver non-stick frying pans in various sizes. They seem indestructible.

I hated mine, and switched back to gas after a month. It was easy to clean but so annoying.

Oh I wish I hadn't clicked on this thread. Have just switched from gas to induction for our new kitchen but hob has not been connected yet. Have been fearing that I will miss gas after cooking on it for nearly two decades. Hopefully I will be ok with the transition as it would be almost impossible to switch back as the gas pipe had been removed..,

My mum and sister have induction and love it but I hate them. Mine is gas and if I moved house into somewhere without a gas hob it would be the first thing to go.

I hate how the temp drops when there's no pan in, the heat is patchy and not as fast as gas. There's a reason they don't use them in restaurants.

Hate mine. Awful for stir fries, omelettes, pancakes, basting - pretty much anything where you want to tilt the pan. As soon as you lift it slightly the ring switches off.

Lots of people on MN go on about how easy they are to clean. Well yes, but I'd prefer to have something that you can cook on properly.... Give me gas any day!

Thank you.

Will hold off.

Being easy to keep clean wouldn't really be a selling point.

My 20+ hob that is used every day is still in great condition.
I wipe it down with a hot cloth everyday as part of after dinner clean up and that has kept it in great condition, with no build up of staining etc.
