Nectar points are pretty much not worth it?!

I’ve just been looking at my Nectar statement, we have approx £40 worth of points. Historically I would have have traded these in for Pizza Express vouchers or Amazon vouchers.
I’ve just been looking at where these can now be spent and there’s so little you can do with them now!
What do other people do with theirs?!

I only really get points from my nectar card being linked to my ebay account.
I spent £10 worth of points as part payment on an Argos purchase recently, but can't recall having redeemed them previously.

JustanotherTuesday · 27/02/2021 10:33

I spend mine in Argos or on eBay.
It's also worth waiting until they double up later in the year.

Chasingsquirrels · 27/02/2021 10:33

I do feel the same about club card points atm though.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/02/2021 10:33

I used mine to buy Christmas presents in the double up event back in November/December.
I didn't even have that many, but it was some stocking fillers, DHs traditional pants, a book, something for MIL...

Fembot123 · 27/02/2021 10:34

They are quite crap especially in comparison with Tesco club points. I use my to buy my shopping every now and then

HunterHearstHelmsley · 27/02/2021 10:35

I save mine for Christmas. I usually have around £100 in points, I'll double half up and then use the rest for Christmas treat food.

TeaAndBrie · 27/02/2021 10:43

I think that’s a good plan to wait and double up.
I don’t get Clubcard points anymore as we don’t use Tesco as it’s not near us. I think maybe I’m comparing Nectar to how good Tesco used to be with the 4x use on attractions and restaurants etc

I just use whatever I've collected through the year in the Double Up in store.

Meandyouandyouandme · 27/02/2021 10:53

Last couple of years you could only double up £50, so might be worth getting a second card in someone else’s name, if you think you’ll have more than that by November.

BabblativeBean · 27/02/2021 10:53

I used to find them quite useful until they halved the value of them, I used to buy stuff from Argos, but now it takes me forever to build up twenty quid.

Kazzyhoward · 27/02/2021 10:57

Surely anything is better than nothing? I bought a vacuum cleaner from Argos with mine a couple of years ago. Just bought a microwave from Argos last week. Look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves. Why wouldn't you use your nectar card, even for low rewards? It costs you nothing and takes a few seconds to swipe it.

Yes, not as good as they used to be, but that's how things work. Right back a few decades when you collected paper vouchers at petrol stations - over time, they became worth less. That's the whole point of marketing. Same with Tesco club cards - they're worth a lot less now but I still collect them and still use them.

WrinklesShminkles · 27/02/2021 11:02

Anything I buy from Argos is bought with Nectar points, I find they build up quite easily if you ignore them, and use the extra points offers. They paid for most of a dyson cordless so that was good. Also the Roku stick we got recently.

TheJerkStore · 27/02/2021 11:04

I double up and use them for Christmas presents or use the points towards a Christmas food shop.

Woeismethischristmas · 27/02/2021 11:06

I get club card points. I used them to pay for my racmembership this year. They triple the value although you don’t get any other discounts. I sometimes splurge at Denby, I rate their pans and bakeware, triple the value of the club card points and you can buy sale stuff. I miss the quadruple points thing for days out.

I definitely still use my card every time and you’re right, something is better than nothing. I was mainly asking to see if anyone could share how they use theirs to get the best deal.

I think Argos or doubling up seems the way to go :) although most of the Argos home stuff you can get instore at Sainsbury’s anyway as it’s the same company. I wonder if the offers are different?

We have loads of nectar points and nothing really to spend them on. I would prefer to use them for treats such as days out, but as you say, they just isn’t available.

TechnoDino · 27/02/2021 11:33

I wait to double up in autumn and then spend the vouchers on Christmas wine.

spookycookies · 27/02/2021 11:35

I double up and spend it on clothes for my kids. Their clothes are pretty good for kids and I usually have around 50£ worth to double up

iklboo · 27/02/2021 11:35

We use them to pay for Sainsbury's shopping at Christmas.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 27/02/2021 11:40

We use at Xmas for free Xmas food and drink. Everything we use cards wise is linked to nectar and we have about £150 every Xmas to spend. Not small amount and certainly not worthless where wine is concerned

MiddlesexGirl · 27/02/2021 11:40

Just paid my mobile phone bill with doubled up Clubcard vouchers. Money for nothing when I shop at Tesco anyway.

RandomMess · 27/02/2021 11:47

Double up and stock up on wine for the year 😂

Mummaofboys93 · 27/02/2021 11:49

My SIL uses hers for Xmas food shop which I always think is a good idea as we all tend to over buy on Xmas food with all the picky snacks ect it can be costly.

LostToucan · 27/02/2021 11:53

Make sure have the app to get the extra points on items that you regularly buy. For some reason I got a bonus of 600 points the other day, so that was an extra £3.

In the past I have used the points to buy a Le Creuset casserole, a Nintendo 3DS and a kitchen stand mixer.
