Nectar points are pretty much not worth it?!

I’ve just been looking at my Nectar statement, we have approx £40 worth of points. Historically I would have have traded these in for Pizza Express vouchers or Amazon vouchers.
I’ve just been looking at where these can now be spent and there’s so little you can do with them now!
What do other people do with theirs?!

I’ve got £26 so far this year and I only really shop the extra nectar point offers each week then go across the road to Aldi for the rest of my shopping 😂. The only issue with this way is that they tend to give you offers on the things they know you’ll buy and if you only buy the offers, you get the same ones week in and out, which means you only buy the same things again and so on. We use Sainsburys for petrol too but our petrol usage has been vastly reduced this year and last obviously!

We use our points towards the Christmas shop and it usually pays for a nice buffet for our family around Christmas (fingers crossed we can have one this year!)

I save up all of my vouchers, such as Clubcard, nectar and TopCashback etc....

Cash them all in at Christmas and use them to buy gifts for the extra people (friends' children, kids' teachers etc) and FC presents for the children.

Usually save up about £250 - £300 from them all, even if one scheme isn't great, together it all adds up.

HauntedPencil · 27/02/2021 22:07

I double up every Christmas when that's on

TheyWalkAroundInWellies · 27/02/2021 22:08

You get a lot less than with other points systems and although you can double up in November it's a faff and a half because there's loads of things you can't spend them on eg you can't buy Xmas food unless it's taste the difference. I mean it's ok and better than nothing but it's a lot of fannying on really compared to other schemes.

Thank you to the PP. I've just got myself 2,000 extra points as well.

You're welcome!Smile

delilahbucket · 27/02/2021 22:41

I just spent a load of mine in Argos. I also use the maximum in the November double up.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/02/2021 22:41

I maximise the bonus points on the app and I'm earning about £35 in points per month (this is assisted by having 2 Sainsbury's insurance products which means we get triple points on our shopping).

I spend them on ingredients for Christmas baking (during the year, depending on when I'm making my mincemeat / stocking up on baking chocolate etc), on various things during Double Up, plus on Christmas food in general.
@twinkleprincess2020 wasn't a criticism I was just surprised! I use Spotify for the music I want to choose exactly what I listen to and otherwise listen to digital radio - mainly absolute 80's

I'm a keen amateur photographer when not impacted by health and so I understand the appeal of cameras, phone cameras are MUCH improved but there are still many things you can't do with a phone camera that you can do with a "proper" camera, hell I've an old 35mm film camera still stashed somewhere

@Kazzyhoward you've got my mouth watering for treacle tart now! Not had that in AGES!
Sainsbury are the only store that sells it around here. Neither Tesco, Morrisons nor Asda stock it. Sainsbury have a much broader product range across the board really. One stack of lots of different things instead of the other stores who have more stacks of fewer lines. It's why we prefer Sainsbury, but we still go to the others to buy the offers etc.

BigPaperBag · 01/03/2021 16:58

We just use the double up. I agree, they’re pretty crap though.
