Nectar points are pretty much not worth it?!

I’ve just been looking at my Nectar statement, we have approx £40 worth of points. Historically I would have have traded these in for Pizza Express vouchers or Amazon vouchers.
I’ve just been looking at where these can now be spent and there’s so little you can do with them now!
What do other people do with theirs?!

Can't you spend them on ebay? If so, that's what I'd do.

MuddleMoo · 27/02/2021 11:57

Get myself a sandwhich

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/02/2021 11:59

Nectar Points for Christmas food shop here too .
I don't touch them till then.

They halved the value a couple of years back but I use the Bonus Points when they are suitable so not bad .

I think last year was £140 or so .

SpringisSpinning · 27/02/2021 11:59

If it wasn't for tesco my dc would have never accessed, the tower of London, London zoo, Warwick Castle and many other places including aboard via the euro tunnel. They are, were brilliant.
Over Xmas I did one big shop with nectar points.. I've never tuned into how to make it them go further or what to do with them. Having said that it was a help to have one large Xmas shop paid for.. So I may just aim to do that again this coming Xmas

tinytemper66 · 27/02/2021 12:00

I had over £300 worth before Christmas and used some of them. Then a month ago my fridge freezer broke and I lost load of food. I used more points to restock. I will keep building on it for Christmas again this year.

Seeline · 27/02/2021 12:01

Mine usually pay for all the food for Christmas day. I'm pretty happy with free food 😆

TeaAndBrie · 27/02/2021 12:01

Free food and wine is always good Grin

I put mine towards school uniform from Tu.

Merename · 27/02/2021 12:07

Yes I just use them on the food shop. I haven’t got the details for the email address or hone that I initially registered, so don’t see statements etc, just occasionally ask them to take it off at the till. Did so last week actually and it was £60! Can’t remember last time so no idea how long that took.

extentioncord · 27/02/2021 12:08

You say they are not worth it but it doesn't cost you anything to collect so £40 off your shopping for scanning a card had to be worth it?

TheWitchersWife · 27/02/2021 12:09

Never shop in sainsburys. My nectar card is exclusively used on ebay to both collect and spend points.
It's not much but it's all things I'd be buying anyway.

Ch3rish · 27/02/2021 12:17

Unless you are choosing your shop based on loyalty points something free can't be not worth it. Of course you won't have the same options as pre pandemic but they don't run out do they? I've had some for ages as I rarely shop at Sainsburys and not seen anything about them expiring

It’s nothing to do with pre pandemic, my point was that there isn’t much, apart from using them for shopping at Sainsbury’s, that you can do with them. We live very close to Sainsbury’s so walk there which is why it’s the main shop that we use. I really wasn’t being ungrateful, I was just highlighting that compared to other loyalty schemes offered by supermarkets that the choices are more limited.

Check out Martin Lewis OP, I think he recently had an article of how to get the most out of nectar points. I didn't pay it much attention as I don't have a nectar card but will see if I can find it.

BarbaraofSeville · 27/02/2021 12:28

There's some sort of offer at the moment where you can get extra free points by signing in to the app. I don't know if it's for everyone or what but I got a thousand points free.

I don't really shop in Sainsbury's as most other supermarkets are closer, but I do like to go once in a while so make a point of going for the November double up, to use whatever points I have for free wine, which is a nice treat in the run up to Christmas.

Not worth shopping in Sainsbury's for the points but they're a nice freebie that you might as well have if you're shopping there anyway. But we also get quite a few points due to eBay purchases and one of the petrol station chains give them too I think.

How to get an easy 2,000 Nectar points
Martin had two main Nectar tips whilst speaking on the show. He firstly explained how to get up to 2,000 Nectar points for free, adding that it was "dead easy" to do.

This is because Nectar is offering all existing members between 100 and 2,000 totally free bonus points - equivalent to between 50p and £10 off your shopping - via its app until Tuesday 9 March – there's no spend required, so it's a no brainer. If you're new to Nectar, you can sign up and get 250 points (equivalent to £1.25).

To get this, you need to log in to your Nectar account, or sign up for one, via the free app (available on iOS and Android), and on the home screen select the 'Juicy Points Boost' tile. You'll be shown how many bonus points you've been awarded and this should be instantly added to your regular Nectar points balance.

Martin explained that if you can't see the offer, you may need to update the app to the latest version, compatible with most phones from the past few years running iOS 12.0 or later, or Android 5.0 or later (you can do this in the App Store or Google Play).

Beautiful3 · 27/02/2021 12:30

I spent mine in argos last week as part payment.

AliceBlueGown · 27/02/2021 12:32

I allow them to build up - also as a pp said you should download the app to earn extra points. I use them for our Christmas shop or electrical items from Argos. I am not really sure what you expect really.

HostessTrolley · 27/02/2021 12:42

We used to just put any nectar points towards Christmas booze but you can now link it to avios so might do that. Tesco points are usually used for days out, Thorpe park etc

Frazzled2207 · 27/02/2021 12:44

Totally rubbish. We double them up in December (Really short window to do this) and use to buy xmas booze.

Tesco are miles better.

Scarlettpixie · 27/02/2021 12:52

It is still worth collecting them as £40 you wouldn’t otherwise have is a bonus!

I have been saving mine for if I am short of money one month. I have about £100 worth and I don’t regularly shop at Sainsbury’s. It has taken me years but its nice to know it’s there.

MechantGourmet · 27/02/2021 12:55

We only have Sainsbury's nearby, so I just use the points against my shop at Christmas tbh. I didn't even realise you could use them in Argos, as that's in the supermarket too.

Mountainpika · 27/02/2021 12:58

I collect the points, use them for Sainsburys food shopping and give the money to a charity I support.

2andahalfpints · 27/02/2021 13:00

We get the easter eggs with them

DoverSoul · 27/02/2021 13:11

I couldn't even go shopping on my own and every time we got to the till he wouldn't let me spend the Nectar points, even though it was always me who paid and had therefore accumulated them. When we split I tried to get him taken off the card or for the points to be signed over to my new card but I couldn't do that without his say so. It took me three shopping trips of buying lovely things that I hadn't been allowed before and great extravagances to spend the points. That brought me much joy Smile

What brings me even greater joy is that he hasn't told Tesco his new address so his coupons keep coming here and of course if I haven't got my glasses on when the postie comes I don't realise it's not my name on the envelope. Oh dear. Fear not, dear reader, I am not benefitting from his points - food bank users and those in need of aid from being abused are, because he really doesn't like that 'type of person'. Oh the irony!

Sorry, OP, I don't agree with you on this one Grin
