Why are people drinking Yorkshire Tea when Barry's Gold exists?

The6thQueen · 26/02/2021 12:13

@ArcheryAnnie

Get yourself one of these, OP - it's a game changer. You can have loose leaf without washing a bloody teapot, or having one of those teeny little tea balls on a chain. Easy to fill, easy to empty - after use just tip them into the bin, or the compost bucket. And Yorkshire Tea do loose leaf!

game changer

Thanks @ArcheryAnnie, will look into that Smile

Just use Tetleys teabags. They are individual so no tearing required.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 26/02/2021 12:18

Not to mention the new eco friendly pg tips bags. Every single one has split. If I want loose leaf tea I’ll use a pot. And a strainer.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 26/02/2021 12:18

I mainly drink loose leaf tea nowadays and discovered M&S extra strong tea which is fantastic and the teabags are good too. Makes a lovely strong, malty cuppa, and the bags are decently perforated

NotFabulousDarling · 26/02/2021 12:22

YANBU. I've switched to PG Tips for this very reason. Their bags are separate, easy to use, and you can get at least 3 cups out of one bag if the pot brews properly.

Oh noooo! We must have bought older ones as ours don't say they're eco-friendly.
jaffar · 26/02/2021 12:27

They are perforated and do tear!

This is Tetley propaganda. The OP is clearly a plant.

I use a tea strainer. I'll confess that I hate it sometimes because other members of the household throw any small amounts of leftover tea down the sink which discolours it and they don't wipe round so it looks a mess. Added to which, they're not good at removing the remaining tealeaves from the pot (I filter them through a disreputable sieve that I line with used, non-plasticised kitchen paper - same with coffee grounds).

@peak2021

It seems to be a recent thing.

Never used to have Yorkshire tea when young, one of the few benefits of climate change.

Good one! (I prefer Assam myself)
larrygengurch · 26/02/2021 12:39

You need to send an email to customer services with the details from the bottom on the box, so that it can be followed up in the factory.

There are meant to be perforations.

Speaking as a complete outsider of course...

Nat6999 · 26/02/2021 12:40

I've just bought a teapot that is like a coffee plunger, once I have used up all my teabags I'm going over to loose tea. Have you thought of snipping the bags with scissors?

heatherhoneys · 26/02/2021 12:41

Not only are the teabags useless, it's also rank.
They need to start making decent tea not that excuse for a decent drink.

Feedingthebirds1 · 26/02/2021 12:41

It's a lottery. Running a sweepstake on what sort of a box you get this time. I've had the ones that need scissors, but the box I'm on now the pairs are almost completely separated, only held together by the tiniest corner. I fist bump myself when I open a new box and find it's one of those.

hansgrueber · 26/02/2021 12:41

I have a similar gripe about Aldi sour dough baguettes, they used to be packaged so that you could tear one off and the other remained sealed, now they're not and being on my own it's a pain.

jaffar · 26/02/2021 12:44

OP this is madness. Yours clearly have more tea in too. What has the world come to.

Abraxan · 26/02/2021 12:45

We use the loose leaf Yorkshire tea instead. Our teapot has a separate diffuser type thing in it so keeps the leaves contained.
I reckon it tastes better than tea bags too.

Whatisthisfuckery · 26/02/2021 12:51

I have had this problem. I take them out of the box, separate then put in a tin. If you grab each side and pull the lot they rip. I’ve found a better way is to put my hands on the top on each side, then ease apart like that. it seems to be a gentler way of doing it and they’re less prone to tearing.

crystaltips98 · 26/02/2021 12:57

They (like some other brands) also use microplastic in the bags so your tea is laced with this stuff. Change to PG tips. No tear dilemas and better for environment

Ostryga · 26/02/2021 13:00

@itsthatdorkagain

PGTips are far nicer

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 26/02/2021 13:01

I bought their loose leaf tea and it was utter shite - like the powder you get inside a tea bag. Never buying it again.

Nospringchickendipper · 26/02/2021 13:02

I think they changed the bags a few years ago to be more eco friendly and they had problems. We emailed them and they replaced the boxes.
They did recognise it and will reimburse you if you contact them.

Yep. I just received my 400 bag catering pack this morning. Batches of 2 bags with perforated line as ever down the middle.
