To think there is a chance we would be able to go on holiday abroad from May

Name changed as these sorts of posts can get you flame Shock
Basically had a holiday booked for last June which we agreed to change for this May at the time thinking all this should be a long distant memory. Anyway I was fully expecting it to be cancelled and have recently spoke to the airline who said if it goes against government advice we would receive a full refund.
Our holiday date is 17th May. The day international travel MAY be allowed. Airline has said at the moment there is a chance we will be allowed to fly. AIBU to think there is a chance the holiday will be able go ahead?

You would also need to check the rules for the country you are hoping to visit, OP.

Unfortunately, it's not just down to what our Government decide.☹️

Fingers crossed travel can resume in the summer though. 🤞

Csx99 · 23/02/2021 15:57

My situation is pretty much identical to yours apart from I'm supposed to fly out on the 16th May! We're also unsure what to do, we're probably just going to change the date again but can't go between the months of July - January as that's when my son's amputation could be so looks like it'll be later next year now Sad

FuckyouCovid21 · 23/02/2021 15:59

Well I'd love to go and see my partner in Oz who I haven't seen since December 19 but I doubt it'll happen this year

Playdoughcaterpillar · 23/02/2021 15:59

We have a rebooked holiday in Europe for May half term. I'm keeping everything crossed. It's certainly possible....

peak2021 · 23/02/2021 15:59

I'd expect the place you would be going to might not accept you into the country concerned.

Suzi888 · 23/02/2021 16:07

Who knows! Good luck though! Smile

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 23/02/2021 16:08

We have a holiday booked for 14th May, do you think it’s cancelled now we’ve been told there’s no foreign holidays happening then?

ClaudiaWankleman · 23/02/2021 16:13

I think there is a chance it will be allowed by the UK government but whether the destination will allow you in is another matter!

So much could change between now and then though - and you’re likely to have much more clarity closer to the time I would think.

DazedandConcerned · 23/02/2021 16:14

I just moved my holiday to 17 May. If it goes I’m going. Egypt will let us in unless something drastic changes.

YABU to ask this question less than 24hrs after BJ released the roadmap & the four point criteria.

You can read a straightforward explanation of the four criteria here:

If the link doesn't work look up simple politics on Instagram.

giggly · 23/02/2021 16:17

Not a hope in hell. Bumbling Boris has just told everyone what they want to hear and you are all taking it in.
The rules and dates will change no doubt about it.
We are still in the midst of a pandemic. For everyone booking/ wanting to go abroad away you go and have a look in the hospitals and that just might give you a slightly different perspective.

ArialAnna · 23/02/2021 16:18

We've got a trip to Italy booked for early June (like you delayed from last year). I'm desperate to go! Fingers crossed! 🤞🤞🤞

Hmm
Lelophants · 23/02/2021 16:19

If I were you I'd try and get my money back op. It is so changeable atm, not just for our country but wherever you're going. There's also the whole quarantine issue. It depends how much you're willing to risk.

TooMuchYarn · 23/02/2021 16:23

It will depend on the country you are flying into and how far along they are with their vaccination program. Most of Europe and the rest of the world will not have their over 70s and vulnerable population vaccinated by May - September is more likely for Europe.

Just as the UK has really cracked down on incoming travelers, to avoid the spread of the mutant strains - most of the rest of the world is doing the same. But they are much further behind the UK in their programs (my brother is in Hong Kong - they haven't even started there yet).
Being vaccinated has not been proven to stop you carrying the virus, and with the UK variants, other countries will not want UK tourists until their own populations are protected.

Australia77 · 23/02/2021 16:32

I have something booked for end of May (Spain), July (Italy) and August (Greece). I am confident the July and August trips will happen. Not sure about May. Depends whether Spain lets us in. I might need to switch to somewhere else if Spain isn't allowing visitors from the UK.

abigailsnan · 23/02/2021 16:32

I changed my annual holiday with my daughter to Majorca last year to June 22nd this year in the hope things may be over.
After reading an artical over the week-end I doubt very much it will happen, the Spanish Islands are looking to request proof of both vaccinations for Covid or you will be refused entry,my daughter is due her 1st vac as yet so there is no way we shall be going.
I know we had to wait for vaccines to be developed but if we had close down earlier as the Spanish Islands have done we would not have lost so many of our dear families

WeAllHaveWings · 23/02/2021 16:33

AIBU to think there is a chance the holiday will be able go ahead?

Obviously YANBU to think it, but truthfully no-one knows. Too many unpredictable variables.

Australia77 · 23/02/2021 16:33

@giggly

I don't need a different perspective. We travelled overseas last summer and will be on a plane the minute we can this year. Can't wait!!

Emeraldshamrock · 23/02/2021 16:36

Hope for the best. You might be lucky, then you can decide if it is worth the risk and a fine.
My nieces boyfriend is in the Canaries now. I don't agree with it but him and his friends had no issues flying out, return flight included cost €70.
I'm hoping they get a big fine.

Why would I get a fine I would only be going if it was allowed Confused

If you decided to go anyway, as you won't you've no worries. Confused ⬅️ matching confused face.

Mrsbrand2019 · 23/02/2021 17:48

We booked for last may and changed it to this may the 15th and just received an email from jet2 that they have cancelled it with full refund within 28 days.
No option to move this time it’s just been cancelled

abigailsnan · 23/02/2021 17:54

MrsBrand obviously Jet2 know something we don't as in maybe the Country you where going is thinking of asking for vaccination certificates
