Help - Pregnant or Menopause?

Advice/insight needed...
I'm 42, periods as regular as clockwork and I'm 10 days late. Have never used contraception for well over 15 years (withdrawal) I know, I know, I know it's not impossible and really need to take a test but it's just I suppose I'm just kind of in a not knowing/denial state of mind. I've had my usual pre period issues, felt crampy but no sore/achy boobs (which is my main symptom) I'm not stressed out out, have no health issues, have put a little weight on during lockdown - who hasn't 🤷🥰, only issue I'm having at the moment is broken sleep.
I haven't told DH I'm late (it's his birthday today anyway so don't think that would go down well as he blows out his candles) I just don't know if I'm too old to get pregnant or too young to be the start of Menopause. It's 24 years since my last pregnancy and I can't recall my early symptoms at all. Any kind words of encouragement or comfort appreciated 😌

Get a pregnancy test. Sorted.

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 23/02/2021 09:43

^ that

Aprilx · 23/02/2021 09:45

I would get a pregnancy test. I found periods didn’t stop suddenly, it was a process over time, getting lighter and slightly less regular over a few years.

dontdisturbmenow · 23/02/2021 09:48

No one can tell you. My mum got pregnant at 42.

I had my first late period leading to the menopause 6 years later the month I turned 42.

Either is possible.

Porcupineintherough · 23/02/2021 09:54

What advice or insight could anyone possibly offer you? You are probably pregnant but may have missed a period due to stress. Doesnt sound at all like perimenopause- you are v young for that and it doesnt usually start w skipping periods.

  • get a pregnancy test
  • use contraception if you want to be sure of avoiding pregnancy.

And good luck.

It did for me!

buzzandwoodyallday · 23/02/2021 10:40

Just take a test. Simple.

AryaStarkWolf · 23/02/2021 10:43

At 42 you're more likely to be pregnant than be starting Menopause I would think

lucywho123 · 23/02/2021 10:43

Get a test Confused

i was told the withdrawal method didnt work when I was about 13

LividLoving · 23/02/2021 10:45

I just had my first as I turned 40 so sincerely hoping you’re not too old, selfishly Blush

ZaraW · 23/02/2021 10:45

I would say pregnant.

BrumBoo · 23/02/2021 10:45

Let me just dust off my crystal ball....

Seriously though, get a test and then do what most women figure out as teens, get proper contraception sorted.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 23/02/2021 10:46

You need to take a test.

OneForTheJourney · 23/02/2021 10:47

Taking a test will give you the answer

Iwasonceabrownie · 23/02/2021 10:51

I started the menopause at 43 and my periods just stopped. Never had another one.

Unanananana · 23/02/2021 10:56

You need to do a test. And if you are not pregnant then sort actual contraception rather than trying for a baby if you don't actually want one.

Cannot believe anyone thinks withdrawal is contraception and then acts shocked when it doesn't work. Baffling.

😂😂
bonnymiffy · 23/02/2021 11:23

I had my first at 42, and second at 44, so yes, pregnancy is entirely possible, particularly if you think withdrawal is a sensible contraceptive option. Just get a test, and if you don't want to tell your DH on his birthday then tell him tomorrow.

Sexnotgender · 23/02/2021 11:27

I find testing more accurate than asking randoms on the internet.

TTCmummy2021 · 23/02/2021 11:28

Seriously..... just go buy a test 🙄🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

ItsSnowJokes · 23/02/2021 11:29

My menopause is now 4 years old......... although I am now perimenopausal (and I was when I fell pregnant looking back) and on HRT.

WeAllHaveWings · 23/02/2021 11:30

Sounds like you've just run out of luck with your Russian roulette contraceptive method. You did well not to get pregnant for 15 years.

Get a test.

HeidiHaughton · 23/02/2021 11:31

Pregnant, with twins.

BettyDaviesWeLoveU · 23/02/2021 11:32

Have a pint of water, pop to the chemist, buy a test, come back, wee on it!

FWIW this exact thing happened to a colleague altho their periods had become erratic but not stopped. GP also sent her for cancer screening, where they found out she was 15 wks pregnant. She’s 44.

NewScone · 23/02/2021 11:33

You need to test so you know either way.
