Would you attend a wedding in July?

Yanbu: yes, I would
Yabu: not a chance

We're on our 3rd wedding date. Mid July - supposedly social distancing will be a thing of the past -doubt it like-

Trying to decide what to plan for. We're booked for a farm in Northumberland. Outdoor wedding under an open barn

Potentially eat outside but massive marquee booked in case the weather is shit

80 day time and 140 evening original guests

It's very laid back - nowt sorted really despite it being our 3rd date and nothing that can't be sorted or cancelled in the last couple of weeks if necessary

@Blondeshavemorefun

Surely the marquee will understand if numbers arent higher you don’t need them

Wasn’t this discussed after first cancellation

Agree it’s horrible not knowing numbers

I can’t tell our venue whether 30 sit down meal or 75 +hog roast

But they are understanding and said they will do they can fir what numbers are legally allowed

They're a business at the end of the day. They just want paying - understandable I suppose.

I selected wrong option. Yes I’d go

CheltenhamLady · 24/05/2021 19:49

People need to know asap before invitations can go out.

We also have block bookings for hotel rooms that have to be cancelled if they won't be used.

Come on Boris.....

Mummyme87 · 24/05/2021 19:55

Absolutely. I’m a bridesmaid for my friends in July. In also have my own booked for august

Well we've just had to pay AGAIN to give notice... it had better bloody go ahead!

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 01/06/2021 09:37

Yes we had to pay again. Think it’s 2w time we go. So wrong

But. A different date and venue and over a year from original In January 2020 means we have to

Workyticket · 01/06/2021 09:40

our venue is the same and the date is 1 year to the day later! Honestly I was dumbfounded Hmm

I'm going to a wedding this week (up to 30 of course) but I'd be happy to go to a much larger wedding as soon as permitted.

AddisonMontgomeryShepherd · 01/06/2021 11:01

I hope everything goes to plan for you op. My hen night had just been cancelled as it's a self catering lodge with 10 people and even in July in Scotland we are only allowed 8. Fed up of it all now!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/06/2021 11:33

@AddisonMontgomeryShepherd my hen do was in a hotel last year and think 6 of us staying after

Date been cancelled twice and venue now can’t do in time for new wedding date

But I’ve found venue , but not a hotel so we can’t stay

But least I will still be with my friends

breadbinbaby · 01/06/2021 12:12

How are you feeling, OP? I’m finding the ever-changing reports incredibly stressful. I was so optimistic last week and I feel like we should still be able to be so from the data, but the scientists seem determined to insist we should drag it out (by ‘a few more weeks’, which would be so upsetting and frustrating if it came to pass!) Hopefully the government will take a more holistic and measured approach.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/06/2021 14:11

If they are opening up sports event

Surely they can allow more at a wedding , esp if outside

Up and down to be honest.

I'm so sick of it all - if it's a no from the government I'd rather just know!

I don’t especially hate weddings but don’t understand the sentiment of being desperate for a big party. I miss many relatives as they live overseas but for meaningful chats I think seeing small groups is way further up my list.

SamW98 · 01/06/2021 17:16

I would have no problem attending any even once the restrictions are lifted. Tbh I wouldn't have an issue attending a large event now, we just can't

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/06/2021 17:29

I guess it’s cos that’s what many people think weddings
Are

A huge party

Rather then marriage iyswim

Where as we just went to get married. Obv be nice to have 75 but if goes back to 15 we will still get married

We both have family that we don't see regularly due to distance / time etc.

Both sets of parents are 70+ and our wedding (if it happens) will probably be the last big celebration for quite a while. I've been with dp 13 years and there's been 1 wedding his side and 1 on mine. Our parents are itching for a big family do!

The only time whole families get together is weddings and funerals really.

Both have lots of friends - mainly from work. We both work at the same big place so my friends know his etc.

It's got the potential to be really fun. Everyone has responded so eagerly - even people who live in the area have booked hotels to make a weekend of it 😭

Feeling your pain OP. We ended up eloping after 3 cancellations.last year but are supposed to be having a party for 120 in October. Still don't know if it'll happen and who will actually want to come!

Well, we’re all different.
Serin · 01/06/2021 19:28

I would happily attend. I feel so sorry for everyone who has had their weddings ruined.
I hope it goes to plan for you OP.

Workyticket · 01/06/2021 20:41

You're all so lovely - thank you!

Weddings ,funerals and the occasional party for big birthdays/anniversaries are the only time my fairly big family all get together. I can go years and years without seeing some of my cousins but it was really important to me to have them at our wedding. As I'm not religious to me the point of getting married was to stand in front of my friends and family and tell them that I had found 'the one'. I don't think I'd have bothered if it was to make my vows to a registrar and two strangers. We are about to hit 20 years so it hasn't done any harm to our relationship. It wasn't about being the centre of attention or keeping up with the Jones it was about sharing our love with the people we love. If all we wanted was a big party we could have had one without getting wed. Our marriage is the most important thing and buttonholes and canopies pale into insignificance beside that. But 20 years later I still have happy memories of the day and the fantastic people we got to share it with, several of whom are no longer with us.
Workyticket · 02/06/2021 09:26

@DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes
That's exactly how I feel. Of course we could do it with tiny numbers but I'd be heartbroken not to celebrate with everyone

The venue is massive, it's mainly outdoors etc. Just feels mad that pubs are rammed but I can't sit round a fire pit with my pals or have a daft dance with my Aunty Pam!
