To serve boiled potatoes

Much stroppiness and comments and moaning because when asked what's for dinner and told them they asked would it be nice potatoes or boiled... Nice I said but they were boiled so apparantly I lied.. Surely everyone eats boiled potatoes for dinner in UK sometimes aren't they an English staple part of our traditional diet for context I didn't serve just boiled spuds I served with peas carrots and salmon encroute (shop bought but nice) are they just spoilt? We had pasta yesterday beautiful tapas day before Indian night before fresh fish etc etc it's not like they have to eat it every day I think they are too used to lovely exotic food and are just being ungrateful shits. Or are boiled potatoes actually that bad?

OP posts:

Consider the meals served to the little ingrates for the rest of the week!

They can simply make their own dinners in future, can't they?

Why yes, they bloody well can!

Yourcatisnotsorry · 24/02/2021 22:40

I’ve literally never eaten ‘boiled potatoes’. What are ‘nice potatoes’?

OldRailer · 24/02/2021 23:02

I remember being stunned when a friend didn't know how to peel a potato.

OldRailer · 24/02/2021 23:02

I was only 19 mind.

Anele22 · 24/02/2021 23:23

They're spoilt!

I've had this complaint too. Not my kids either - my partner's! Can't stand it when kids are ungrateful for food that's served up to them.

And OP sounds like you've made an effort night after night.

DarcyJack · 24/02/2021 23:30

You are not unreasonable at all - but I would never serve them. Unless new pots with skins on and loads of butter. Or mashed up. One of my mothers staples though!

Tierrasfuente · 24/02/2021 23:33

how weird to boil a whole potato

I cut them up before boiling. Doesn't everyone?

EBearhug · 24/02/2021 23:40

I cut them up before boiling. Doesn't everyone?

Depends on the size of the spud...

Fluffmum · 24/02/2021 23:42

They are ungrateful. I like a boiled spud!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 24/02/2021 23:42

And the use. For my traditional Christmas salad they are always boiled whole in skin and then peeled and chopped. They just somehow taste different

Mmm I love boiled potatoes. Especially cold. I read once that hot potatoes are quick release energy and cold potatoes are slow realease. Same for bananas, quick release when brown. Is that true?
I love potatoes in curry, mash, baked potatoes, chips, all the potatoes. But hardly ever cook them as it seems so much more hassle than just boiling rice or pasta.

Harmonypuss · 25/02/2021 00:06

Boiled, steamed, baked, new, red, white, sweet.....
A potato is a potato at the end of the day and is a staple of a British diet.
If all you are serving was potatoes, however cooked, then yes, it would be boring but you clearly weren't only giving them spuds.

In future, if the family aren't happy with the way you chose to cook their spuds, tell them to cook them themselves!

Buffs · 25/02/2021 03:56

Boiled potatoes are perfectly good. Your menus also sound lovely. I also get this with my family. I spend hours cooking healthy food full of love and care to face criticism every night. Bloody sick of it, feel like poisoning the whole ungrateful family.

HeronLanyon · 25/02/2021 04:18

I steam small/baby potatoes and happily eat them slathered in salty butter. Steaming seems to retain more flavour.
Only ever peel and boil when mashing. Nothing at all wrong with boiled potatoes.
YANBU.

SquarePeggyLeggy · 25/02/2021 04:22

Steamed not boiled is fine! I don’t think anything should be boiled apart from the kettle.

Elsie1966 · 25/02/2021 05:29

They could add a knob of butter and fork them through restaurants serve them as forked potatoes lol

Boxerbinky · 25/02/2021 06:50

I love potatoes.. when I was pregnant mash was my craving Grin I think peeled boiled spuds are probably my least fav, as can be a bit bland, but as combo with the lovely meal you made I certainly wouldn't grumble.

Ddot · 25/02/2021 07:35

Love a nice boiled Jersey royal with butter. Nice sliced and fried in flavoured oil.
Fresh ( frozen) tiny peas lightly cooked so still pop not boiled to death and wrinkled, served with piece of fish and homemade sauce.
That's tea sorted

ivegotdreadfulpmttoday · 25/02/2021 07:55

I only eat boiled potatoes when I'm on slimming world. And I mash the rest with loads of butter/milk/cheese for the rest of the family. They're not bad but definitely my least favourite way to eat potatoes.

ElizaLaLa · 25/02/2021 08:07

Boiled new potatoes are nice sometimes but peeled boiled normal potatoes are pretty rank tbh.

Familyshopper · 25/02/2021 08:22

Why do you even care you are doing the cooking, cook what you like !

However for the record no one I know likes boiled potatoes they find them boring

winniestone37 · 25/02/2021 08:44

All the people moaning about boiled potatoes haven’t tried the Picasso variety, they are divine. Seek them out - stop moaning!! 😅

winniestone37 · 25/02/2021 08:44

And I love boiled potatoes anyway.

MollyMinniesMum · 25/02/2021 09:17

I’m going to guess you’re from the North. My DH sees no problem with just boiled potatoes either, yuk

mindermum1 · 25/02/2021 09:21

I’m Irish. We love a good spud. I’m gobsmacked there is so little love for the good old boiled potato,
