To serve boiled potatoes

Much stroppiness and comments and moaning because when asked what's for dinner and told them they asked would it be nice potatoes or boiled... Nice I said but they were boiled so apparantly I lied.. Surely everyone eats boiled potatoes for dinner in UK sometimes aren't they an English staple part of our traditional diet for context I didn't serve just boiled spuds I served with peas carrots and salmon encroute (shop bought but nice) are they just spoilt? We had pasta yesterday beautiful tapas day before Indian night before fresh fish etc etc it's not like they have to eat it every day I think they are too used to lovely exotic food and are just being ungrateful shits. Or are boiled potatoes actually that bad?

Depending on age of the snotty shitty complainers, they could always mash their portion on their plate as they begin to eat. With butter.

Idontcareboutthestateofmyhair · 24/02/2021 17:35

We have boiled potatoes sometimes, though I do usually add some rosemary to water while cooking and salt. It's nice to eat good old potatoes sometimes, especiallyIf you've got something like salmon en croute you want it to be star of the show! Everyone says potatoes are fattening these days but they're not it's all the crap we add to them to make them taste 'better'! Boil away! 😄

littlemisskt · 24/02/2021 17:36

Plain, boiled old potatoes really is the worst! New potatoes - mash - roasted - all good!

twinmum2007 · 24/02/2021 17:39

Are you me OP? This is exactly the reaction I get from my 13yr olds. They don't like boiled, new or mashed, not very keen on dauphinoise or jacket either. But will wolf down roast, chips, wedges and hassleback. Thought it was just my children who were odd. DH and I love boiled potatoes.

SirenSays · 24/02/2021 17:42

I can't imagine how lumpy and sad this mash would turn out if you're boiling bland potatoes and then crushing them up with a fork on the plate. No ricer or any cream, butter, milk, cheese? It's a no from me.

AuroraSophia · 24/02/2021 17:42

Aslong as they are slathered in butter and salt 😍

Balldog · 24/02/2021 17:44

I love boiled potatoes! We had them last night with poached salmon and a lovely salad. Your meal sounds perfect to me!

juleswatford · 24/02/2021 17:44

Honestly, a thread about boiled potatoes. Boring, boring, boring! By the way they can be made delish.....butter and parsley. Can't believe I am even responding to this thread

MummyMayo1988 · 24/02/2021 17:45

I don't thinks its gross or anything - I grew up with my grandparents and she always did boiled potatoes.
I however mash them with loads of butter and milk.
I do love boiled potatoes in a chicken casserole tho - bit controversial but I hate dumplings!

hoopyloop2016 · 24/02/2021 17:48

I grew up with grandparents, it was boiled boiled potatoes most nights. I’ve never served boiled potatoes to my children or DP. Actually it’s been years since I’ve eaten boiled potatoes myself.

Jeeperscreepers69 · 24/02/2021 17:50

diagold4u · 24/02/2021 17:51

Wait isn't there a thread created about serving potatoes with salmon en croute lol

sleepyhead · 24/02/2021 17:55

Baby boiled potatoes with a knob of melted butter are the food of the gods.

There's also a type of maincrop potato that just on the right side of waxy to be absolutely delicious as a boiled potato if it's cooked perfectly.

I would happily eat a bowl of nice boiled potatoes with butter and salt on its own for my dinner (and have actually on the odd occasion I can just suit myself).

karenjkayjay · 24/02/2021 17:57

I wouldn’t eat them but we all like different things

SweetPetrichor · 24/02/2021 17:58

You can’t go wrong with a boiled spud. How else would you have your mince and tatties?!
I mash them down a bit with my fork and it’s great. They are a great meal staple. They’re only a dollop of butter away from being a decent mash anyway so I don’t get how they can be seen as terrible. Find a variety you like - rooster are my choice cause that’s what my dad grew in the garden growing up - and enjoy the potato taste.

The idea of making a mash with cream etc...now that is vom inducing! If I wanted baby food I’d open a can...the best mash has a few lumps and involves just a smidge of butter and plenty pepper. My dad made an epic mash when the tatties started to first come ready at the start of the, picking season, when the skins were still tender enough that all they needed was a scrub to clean the dirt off then they were boiled and mashed, skins and all. Good roughage! Delicious...I want a boiled tattie now! Grin

WeeWillyWanky · 24/02/2021 17:59

Any kind of spud is perfectly acceptable in my life. Boiled spuds are lovely with marrowfat processed peas.

inmyslippers · 24/02/2021 17:59

Boiled potatoes are awful. Soo many nice ways to eat spuds

QueenoftheAir · 24/02/2021 18:01

I love boiled potatoes - with a bit of butter & salt & pepper. Delicious!

RampantIvy · 24/02/2021 18:03

@QueenoftheAir

I love boiled potatoes - with a bit of butter & salt & pepper. Delicious!
And they are much better all mashed together Grin
IwantKandixxx · 24/02/2021 18:06

I love boiled potatoes with boiled bacon and cabbage. Reminds me of my nan! All boiled in the same pot of water which i then add a veg stock cube to and that makes a lovely clear gravy - haven't had it in years (last cooked it for me and my mum) because my kids hate it and wont eat any 'plain' food. Just how food has progressed I think. If they dont like it, I don't cook it, no point.

Lifeaintalwaysempty · 24/02/2021 18:07

YAB hugely hugely U Wink

Pinkfreesias · 24/02/2021 18:09

I don't mind boiled spuds but need to cover them with seasoning or spices etc as they're a bit plain without. YANBU.

Barney60 · 24/02/2021 18:13

i love boiled potatoes, less fattening than mashed, love them with stew over the top. yum!
