Well, I did watch for a bit and what struck me was how different the atmosphere was from the rallies/Jan 6th speech. Seemed v flat, a bit half-hearted, going through the motions. There was claque of screamers near the mics with someone revving them up like a warm-up man before he came on stage, but nowhere near the same level of enthusiasm from general shots of the audience. Some looked distinctly embarrassed to be standing up mouthing the slogans. Like singing at a funeral.
The media line (CNN, Sky) seemed to be why was he there at all instead of quietly leaving the scene like other former presidents. But that was never going to happen and of course it was easy to find vox pops from diehard fans, happy to go along with the fantasy.
However, Sarah Baxter, Sun Times, was surprised to find how few supported the idea of Trump 24. So definitely Trump as king-maker, but little enthusiasm for a successor from the Trump family.
Yes, he'll do his worst to make sure that candidates in the mid-terms will be Trumpists, but by then I think there's a good chance, as with Georgia run-offs, that a Trump endorsement will help the Dems more than the Reps.
