Dishwasher or washing machine in holiday let?

Hi. We are in the process of converting our annexe into a holiday let. There is one double bedroom and a smaller bedroom with bunk beds. There is space in the kitchen for either a washing machine or a dishwasher. Which would you prefer if you were staying? My husband is saying washing machine, but I am thinking dishwasher. Would like help to decide. Thanks.

YABU - washing machine
YANBU - dishwasher

Grin @wellthatsunusual how dirty were those knickers?! Shock

gamerchick · 22/02/2021 19:12

@TangerineGenie

Scary the amount of people who leave these machines unattended while they're on.

Fridges and freezers are the appliances most likely to start a fire, do you sit and watch them?

That doesn't compare. You can compare them to washing machines and driers though. Fridges and freezers are designed to he left on and don't pull in water or move in any way.Hmm

Are you seriously picking apart something that is a potential fire hazard if left unattended? You'll be telling me you stick phones on charge overnight next. Grin

Sticking them in a machine, sticking the shit in, putting the programe on, stopping up or in until it's finished because it's like a fire hazard then unloading it when it's done is bloody weird.

What the...?! Grin

Washing up as you go, have sink ready for each person to wash their dish etc straight away takes no time at all.

Except it does take time - especially compared to putting stuff in a dishwasher and letting it do all the work.

Scary the amount of people who leave these machines unattended while they're on.

Oh stop it! Grin The dishwasher is one of loads of appliances I technically leave on unattended. I say technically, because we’re in the house asleep most of the time it’s on, unlike leaving the house with the TV, fridge, freezer, washing machine, dryer, microwave, et al on. Grin

In 30+ years of owning a dishwasher, I’ve never had one start a fire.

My fridge is plumbed in, with running water! I leave the house willy nilly with it turned on.

Sparklingbrook · 22/02/2021 19:15

The last holiday let instructed us to put any dirty plates etc in the dishwasher and switch it on as we left.

This thread has taken a turn. Grin

I take enough clothes (too much) for my holiday.

However if I'm in the UK I have my own little routine.
While I am cleaning the holiday cottage at the end of the week I simply put one load of washing on. It's not a hardship. I am cleaning the cottage anyway, and washing the tea towels.

I leave a lovely clean cottage and pack the car with my lovely clean clothes.

It's the same as having a clean house when you leave to go on holiday. It's what I prefer to come home to, a quick empty of a case and relax.

Everyone is different and that's fine.

washing machine

Pugdoglife · 22/02/2021 19:19

Washing machine.

We always eat out or get takeaway on holiday, I don't go away to spend my whole time cooking, so at most it's a few cereal bowls, cups and spoons to wash.

Clothes wise we always have someone run out of something or get muddy and need to find a launderette, a washing machine would be particularly useful after a swimming trip/beach trip.

Fridges are designed to be left on.

I can't even believe people are using that argument. Like I said, weird Hmm

You do know I'm not arsed don't you? But in some of your shoes, I'd be checking your house insurance to see what electronics can be left on or not in the event of a fire when making a claim.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/02/2021 19:37

I'm not sure how it all works but it just does.
Cook prepares our meals and Henderson, the butler, brings them at the appointed times.
The laundry maid deals with washing our clothes, whilst the scullery maid washes up everything.
Surely everybody does this? Confused

Peace43 · 22/02/2021 19:38

Dishwasher, I don’t do laundry on holiday!

lionpaws · 22/02/2021 19:39

Dishwasher!

MissMarpleDarling · 22/02/2021 19:41

I'd rather wash my cup and plate in the sink rather than my knickers or jumper. Washing machines essential a dishwashers a luxury.

tootsytoo · 22/02/2021 19:46

Dishwasher. Never once in my 35 years alive have I used a washing machine on holiday!!!

Curlysusie · 22/02/2021 19:47

Dishwasher for sure

TheGoogleMum · 22/02/2021 19:51

I'd usually take enough clothes for the holiday so a dishwasher would be appreciated more for me :)

Try it! It's a gamechanger. Grin

I know two people who have lost every single thing they own by going out a leaving the dishwasher running causing the house to burn down.

BertieBotts · 22/02/2021 20:05

Yes but washing machines catch fire too.

StanfordPines · 22/02/2021 20:11

They do. Which is why I never leave either running when I’m not in the house or asleep.

Notavegan · 22/02/2021 20:13

I don't book places without a dishwasher, and always check. Washing machine I usually assume there is one, so would want it spelt out there is not. Not a deal breaker though, esp for shorter stays.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 22/02/2021 20:16

I wouldn't usually do laundry on holiday but the number of times we've been caught in the rain, got covered in mud, a child has travel sickness etc then a washer is essential. Normal washing waits until we get home.

TakeMe2Insanity · 22/02/2021 20:38

Washing machine with a dryer!

Newkitchen123 · 22/02/2021 20:39

I'm well in the minority here but I don't have a dishwasher at home. There's only the two of us so washing up isn't an issue

BlankTimes · 22/02/2021 20:47

I stayed in a complex of 4 cottages on a farm. There were dishwashers in every kitchen and there was separate outbuilding with 3 washing machines and 3 tumble driers and a few lines outside, so basically a mini launderette area which meant you weren't bothered with the noise of the washer and drier in a small living space.

Could you put a washer dryer in a garden shed OP?
