Dishwasher or washing machine in holiday let?

Hi. We are in the process of converting our annexe into a holiday let. There is one double bedroom and a smaller bedroom with bunk beds. There is space in the kitchen for either a washing machine or a dishwasher. Which would you prefer if you were staying? My husband is saying washing machine, but I am thinking dishwasher. Would like help to decide. Thanks.

Dishwasher! Who the hell does washing on holiday??
This. You pack enough clothes so you don't have to. Nobody wants to be washing up on holidays so has to be dishwasher
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 22/02/2021 09:55

Also who
Does loads of washing on holiday because where are you drying a full load when its wet? In your holiday let most likely so not ideal.
I have never used a washing machine on holiday and if my kids were ill would just fill a bath or shower off the worst , i often take a little travel wash with me where of I spill something and I think it may stain I give it a little wash in sink : bath

@RoomOfRequirement

Reading this feels like I'm in some alternate universe where washing dishes is on the same level of difficulty and as time consuming as brain surgery.

Unless you're cooking a full Sunday roast with all the trimmings, dishes take just a few minutes! It's not that much more effort or time than having to load and reload a dishwasher.

I never used ours when we had it because of that.

A washing machine on the other hand makes a difficult job much easier! Can you get a combination washer/dryer?

Snap! I find it mad how difficult people find washing a few pots in the sink. It takes minutes! I am disabled too. Have hardly any use in my right arm and still manage without a dishwasher! I just see it as more of a faff! Rinsing, loading and uploading. No thanks!

We always make sure places have a washing machine but that’s because we have 2 grotty small children, one of whom gets car sick. Pre-kids it wouldn’t have occurred to me to have a washing machine but would definitely want a dishwasher. Depends on your target market really.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 22/02/2021 09:56

Ive got 3 kids under 6 and a dog, we always do uk holidays in holiday lets and i never do washing, just take enough clothes for the week, re wear anything thats clean or worse case find an asda or tesco and buy more. I dont want to be washing up on holiday though so id pick a dishwasher

PurpleDaisies · 22/02/2021 09:56

Dishwasher ever time. I’d never do washing on holiday.

NewScone · 22/02/2021 09:56

If i go for a weekend away I don't want to spend that time washing dishes but I wouldn't need to wash clothes

MessagesKeepGettingClearer · 22/02/2021 09:56

Definitely washing machine. If need be people can handwash dishes. You can't handwash a suitcase of clothes.

crazylikechocolate · 22/02/2021 09:57

Dishwasher , wouldn't want to use plates or cutlery from a holiday let that hadn't been washed up in one
Always take enough clothes to wear but launderettes are easy to find if necessary

StripyHorse · 22/02/2021 09:59

I would say it depends on the location.

If it is somewhere people are likely to be getting muddy e.g. Lake District, I would say a washing machine.

If it is more of a city- break location / attractions are things like museums - dishwasher.

Washing machine. I don't mind doing dishes compared to hand washing clothes (spills and mud happen)
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 22/02/2021 10:05

Use the hotel laundry service. Also our mobile home has a washing machine - I though caravans did too.
Rarely do caravans have washing machines , more likely to have a dishwasher
Although often laundertte often on site

HappydaysArehere · 22/02/2021 10:07

We join family in a time share in the UK and our only complaint is there no dishwasher. If it’s only for a week or two we have enough clothes.

MariLwyd · 22/02/2021 10:11

Depends who you’re aiming it at. A weeks worth of clothes when you have multiple small children is a LOT of clothes, and personally we usually budget for eating out a lot when we’re planning a holiday because we don’t want to spend all our time cooking, so for us a washing machine would be best.

For someone who prefers to eat in but has older/no children a dishwasher would be best.

WombatChocolate · 22/02/2021 10:13

It’s a small holiday let.
If couples stay there, they would prefer dishwasher. Families might be split between the 2.

Personally I’d choose dishwasher. Self catering means creating some washing up and I’d rather not have to do it. I can cope until we g o home for laundry.

Dishwasher would be used every day. Washing machine perhaps once or twice in the week.

Clearly both is nice, but I’d choose dishwasher.

mangoandraspberries · 22/02/2021 10:17

Honestly I think you need to find a way to provide both. I have two young DC and wouldn’t consider a place without both. You could have a dishwasher in the annex (as it’ll be used daily), but then offer the use of your washing machine if needed? Or is there a garage etc that a washing machine can go into?

notalwaysalondoner · 22/02/2021 10:19

100% a dishwasher. A washing machine is a nice to have but unless I’m staying over 10 days (which statistically I doubt most holiday lets are) I don’t need to wash my clothes. Whereas I hate washing dishes especially on holiday!

MashNgravy · 22/02/2021 10:19

Washing machine. Get a small countertop dishwasher

QuentinInQuarantino · 22/02/2021 10:19

Dishwasher, assuming you have easy access to a washing machine for the bedding.

I wouldn't use a washing machine on holiday unless I was there for around days or more.

TransientFrog · 22/02/2021 10:21

Dishwasher.

Washing machine is a nice bonus but I usually take enough clothes for the next three months.

HurricaneBitch · 22/02/2021 10:21

Dishwasher.

The thought of using other people's hand washed dishes 🤢

QuentinInQuarantino · 22/02/2021 10:21

Oh yes as a PP suggested, one of those thin dishwashers would be better and then might you have space for a washing machine if you took a bit of unit space?

CatalinaCasesolver · 22/02/2021 10:24

Depends if the place is suited / sized for families or couples?

Families - washing machine
Couples - dishwasher

beepbeepaleep · 22/02/2021 10:26

I think it depends on your target market.

If you think will mainly be for short breaks, weekend stays etc - either or.

If you're hoping for week stays etc then for me as I have young children I won't even consider a house without a washing machine.

I take plenty, but I like to wash as we go on holiday so I come home with clean clothes rather than heaps of washing to catch up on. For me, that is important. Plus I like to be able to wash beach towels and swimsuits etc after beach days.

Or if it's autumn/winter I like to be able to wash muddy clothes after a day stomping in woods or whatnot.

im5050 · 22/02/2021 10:26

Washing / dryer machine and please leave instructions for how it works 😂
And a large clothes horse / airer
