Out of boredom/interest...

I realised that in work I change my shoes AT LEAST 10 times per day.

What do you do as a part of your day/job that others might find odd or wouldn't realise?

aroundtheworldin80moves I used to drive past armed guards - & have my car searched every time - to go anywhere too. We were living in hospital accommodation.

I check photographs of old furniture.

itbemay1 · 21/02/2021 13:20

In a previous job I was sworn at at least once a day, in the end we had a tally of swear words on the wall and used to tick them off, some were very inventive! This was over 10 years ago in a prison Confused. Worst job I ever had, was only there for 3 months.

Changeismyname · 21/02/2021 13:21

I have to account for every six minutes of my working day

SirGawain · 21/02/2021 13:23

TimeToCloseTheDoor · 21/02/2021 13:30

I sing to dead people whilst doing their hair and makeup.

Only my colleagues know the singing bit.

unCliche · 21/02/2021 13:31

I talk to an Amazon Alexa all day

OnlyTeaForMe · 21/02/2021 13:33

@Sideorderofchips

Being paid to set fire to things. And make things hiss and smoke and pop. And change colour.
Chemistry teacher?
FlamedToACrisp · 21/02/2021 13:41

@Gooo

There’s a room at work everyone calls the chlamydia room.
Hope you don't work in a brothel!
MrsNewtS · 21/02/2021 13:42

I often say things like “wow those testicles are really big”
And I spend a lot of time in a dark room with a bottle of gel.
I don’t do both these things at the same time (usually)!

sueelleker · 21/02/2021 13:43

@LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood

I have to wear black, navy or dark grey suits. No other colours permitted.
You're one of the MIB! Do you have fingerprints?

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 21/02/2021 13:48

@LucilleBluth

God I have loads. Restraining a child in a padded room...who you will then be having a nice lunch next to later in the day.
In-patient CAMHS? DH did that for a few weeks and it nearly broke him so huge admiration if that’s your job!
BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 21/02/2021 13:54

@Ringshanks

I frequently work in the dark - if the lights come on I have to make sure I’m hidden from view
I reckon you observe something through one way glass, possibly market research or police work.
Bert2020 · 21/02/2021 13:57

@TimeToCloseTheDoor that is lovely! How kind of you.

DuckonaBike · 21/02/2021 13:58

MrsNewtS I really hope you are a sonographer.

I look after fairly old things (and some very old things) and put descriptions of them onto a publicly accessible database. I also occasionally use microfiche.

Newfor2021 · 21/02/2021 13:58

I design and build something for dead people

Cocopogo · 21/02/2021 14:03

@LucilleBluth they still have padded rooms? Hope this isn’t in the UK

horridhorrid · 21/02/2021 14:03

I digress, but once I was in the library researching my family tree and I'd come up against a complete brick wall in finding one person. I got out the microfiche for 'K' surname Births for that quarter, slid it into the reader and looked at the screen. There she was, right in front of me, with the surname mis-spelled. I'd never have found her unless the record had been on microfiche - I would never have searched under that spelling on a database.
PuppyMonkey · 21/02/2021 14:04

My main job involves me being on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Saviouronthreelegs · 21/02/2021 14:07

I read the contents pages of about 70books a day

typicalvalues · 21/02/2021 14:12

Talk to gangland criminals for 6 minutes at a time daily. Deal with a lot of political criminals and illegal paramilitary organisations.
