Out of boredom/interest...

I realised that in work I change my shoes AT LEAST 10 times per day.

What do you do as a part of your day/job that others might find odd or wouldn't realise?

OP posts:
MrsBartlet · 21/02/2021 10:14

I read children's books.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 21/02/2021 10:23

@Ringshanks

I frequently work in the dark - if the lights come on I have to make sure I’m hidden from view
I'm so intrigued!! Can you explain more or would it be outing?
Sideorderofchips · 21/02/2021 10:32

Being paid to set fire to things. And make things hiss and smoke and pop. And change colour.

StrikeWhileTheCoffeeIsHot · 21/02/2021 10:34

I have to keep myself safe, listen a lot and hug a lot.

ladybee28 · 21/02/2021 10:40

I talk to nobody from inside a wardrobe

Gingernaut · 21/02/2021 10:43

I wash my hands when I enter a room, then sanitise them and then wash them again when I leave the room.

Then, when I go to the toilet, I wash my hands (of course), sanitise them, enter the work room and have to wash and sanitise them again.

SugarfreeBlitz · 21/02/2021 11:00

I have to take my coworker for walks and play with them at regular intervals to prevent them being bored and licking my feet.

🐶
😂

Downunderduchess · 21/02/2021 11:02

Can’t you explain what your jobs are? Not sure it needs to be a secret unless you are the only person in your respective country who does that.

Wiredforsound · 21/02/2021 11:05

I scream into the abyss (give lectures to students who won’t put their cameras on or speak).

peak2021 · 21/02/2021 11:06

I don't swear at work.

Havlerr · 21/02/2021 11:06

Not often but occasionally I clean and wash dead children’s bodies. Usually wrap them up nicely in a favourite blanket and soft toy too. Sad

TheNationsFavourite · 21/02/2021 11:07

I talk/write/read/think about Christmas all year round.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 21/02/2021 11:08

There is usually more than 15,000 people attending the webinars I give.

NoraEphronsNeck · 21/02/2021 11:08

@TinySongstress

Also, I use microfiche. NOBODY uses microfiche anymore 😂
I remember it well but it was about 20 years ago Grin
Unanananana · 21/02/2021 11:11

I wear costumes and watch people on cctv which they pay for the pleasure of. Not at the moment, though coz covid.

Trinacham · 21/02/2021 11:13

I have to wear a face mask (before Covid) as I work with chemicals. As you can imagine, I just roll my eyes when people moan about not being able to breathe etc. Try wearing one for 9 years whilst working strenuously! You soon get used to it.

Becca19962014 · 21/02/2021 11:15

20 years ago I was programming every day in binary and working in a room without lights (wearing head torches) because the equipment I was working on was from the late 50s and, literally there were only two of us trained to fix it when inevitably the valves in it went "pop". That machine was monitoring the sun for any dangerous flares! Given it didn't even work under lighting let alone the sun I was a bit dubious.

Hopefully the machine has been updated.
However, I believe people were saying the same thing in the 70s!!

I no longer work due to illness, so structure my day around prayer. 99% of people don't know that. Nor do they know about my illnesses.

Becca19962014 · 21/02/2021 11:17

To clarify - machine was translating data from satellite and corresponding dish it wasn't the actual satellite. But even so ..

onegirlandherdog · 21/02/2021 11:18

I send condolences cards a lot, and talk to relatives about their deceased loved ones.

RampantIvy · 21/02/2021 11:20

I don't do anything like as interesting. Does doing hundreds of V look ups on an excel spreadsheet count? Grin

Bainne · 21/02/2021 11:23

@Wiredforsound

I scream into the abyss (give lectures to students who won’t put their cameras on or speak).
Yes. Grin

A teacher friend got sick of this recently and insisted mid-class that her class of eighteen year olds all put their cameras on. To discover one kid was actually out on a tractor doing farm work with his phone on in the cab.

SimonJT · 21/02/2021 11:29

Job 1. I essentially predict the chances of death.
Job 2. I grapple, slam, bash and pound other men.

Bainne · 21/02/2021 11:31

@SimonJT, you’re a part-time actuary, part-time rugby player?

CoffeeRequiredNow · 21/02/2021 11:35

Are you a stage manager in a theatre?

Vallmo47 · 21/02/2021 11:35

I still have a landline and answer it when it rings.
