GaspOde Oops typo! I met a little boy called August not Augusta. I should’ve checked before posting.

Lalliella · 20/02/2021 23:42

@TwelvePaws

He looks very cute and mum and dad look very happy. Something tells me OPs not very happy with her life. 🍑🍩
@TwelvePaws you deduced a lot from my 2 word post. You should be a therapist. (You’re wrong by the way 😊)

What's wrong with Gus Confused

SleepingStandingUp · 21/02/2021 01:45

But Gus doesn’t rhyme with Wuss (or wussie with Gussie)
How do they not rhyme?

I say Gus to rhyme with fuss, and wuss to rhyme with puss.

They don’t rhyme in my SE accent.

Ohclappyyayy · 21/02/2021 02:15

Gus and woose would be the pronunciation here for those words. In his school people would more likely make fun of Dylan/Jayden/Logan than August anyway! We’re all different. You can see that from any name thread on here. Even above someone said Albert would be lovely but to me that’s an awful name.

Ninkanink · 21/02/2021 02:19

It’s a perfectly good name. It has heritage and history to it.

Ninkanink · 21/02/2021 02:20

Gus and wuss do not rhyme!

Gus rhymes with pus (as in the gunky, infected stuff).

Wuss rhymes with puss (as in pussycat).

I have a DS called August. It’s a common Scandinavian name.

Ninkanink · 21/02/2021 02:35

Uhm no it’s not...pronunciation for ‘pus’ here:

dictionary.cambridge.org/pronunciation/english/pus

Similar to fuss (make a fuss).

Wuss:

dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/wuss

Which rhymes with puss:

Yes, Germanic roots.
Ninkanink · 21/02/2021 02:38

(I guess it would originally come from Latin?)

Ohclappyyayy · 21/02/2021 02:38

@Honeybobbin Scotland. Are you Yorkshire/Lancashire or somewhere?

It varies by region, I think!

FixItUpChappie · 21/02/2021 02:44

It's a perfectly nice name - you can't please everyone and why should they try?

Ohclappyyayy · 21/02/2021 02:46

Ah right yeah, I thought north England or midlands! There’s so many different accents in the UK. Even just in Scotland!

BluePeterVag · 21/02/2021 02:56

It’s a nice enough name and she seems a decent sort from the incredibly small amount of info I have read about her.

blisstwins · 21/02/2021 02:59

I like it. Isn't his other kid's name Wolf?
