Hmm

OP posts:
Ninkanink · 21/02/2021 03:00

Haven’t RTFT so it may have already been mentioned, but Eugenie has said that he was named after his great grandfather (the Duke of Edinburgh) and his two great x5 grandfathers.

JustLyra · 21/02/2021 03:08

@blisstwins

I like it. Isn't his other kid's name Wolf?
That’s her sister’s step-kid, not Eugenie’s.
GrandmaAli · 21/02/2021 03:09

I like it. The month name came from emperor Augustus. It could've been much worse, going by some names people choose!!!

Jenasaurus · 21/02/2021 03:15

isnt Augustus, basically August

Jenasaurus · 21/02/2021 03:16

Makes me think of Augustus Gloop

daisychain01 · 21/02/2021 03:22

Sneery

Goady

Unpleasant

Not in the spirit.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/02/2021 03:23

I wasn't sure at first but actually it has grown on me. Nice he has Philip as a middle name.

Ploughingthrough · 21/02/2021 03:53

I quite like it, I know one other child with this time but she's a girl. Whatever though, they can and should call their baby whatever they want.

Ploughingthrough · 21/02/2021 03:55

TwelvePaws writing What a twat you are.

Is it necessary to call somebody that on an internet forum? So mean spirited to name-call like that because you didn't find the original post long enough.

Florrieboo · 21/02/2021 05:14

Auggie is really cute I like it.

TonightMatthew · 21/02/2021 07:49

I laughed at people thinking Gus and Wuss rhymed but now I've tried it in my best attempt at a North/West English accent I can sort of get it.

For much of the country they don't sound the same at all so little Gus will be safe from that particular moniker Wink

TonightMatthew · 21/02/2021 07:50

Wait North East (thinking Yorks/Lancs). Not sure what a North West accent would be like

HeadNorth · 21/02/2021 08:36

It's not my sort of name - I know people are playing up the trad 'Augustus' link, but it does sound quite Kardashian, using a noun like North or Poem as a name. But each to their own.

Ninkanink · 21/02/2021 08:43

No...August itself is also traditional. Maybe not in much use in Britain, but the Royal Family has a strong Germanic connection. It is a real name, and one with history - not at all like Stormi/North/whatever else...

TwelvePaws · 21/02/2021 09:36

I’d say it’s pretty ‘mean spirited’ to start a thread to invite nastiness about a newborn baby’s name, yet not really say much themselves. The OP just started it off, knowing what would happen. If someone acts like that then I’ll say what I think. 🤷🏻‍♀️

TwelvePaws · 21/02/2021 09:37

Is it necessary to call somebody that on an internet forum?

So, in short, yes it is, if they act like one. Wink

Blueeyedgirl21 · 21/02/2021 09:38

I think it’s lovely, so much better than the ‘classic’ names everyone on mumsnet goes for - no matter what you say your James, William or Edward will be one of about 15 in his year not special or unique at all! At least August is a bit different.

Poorlykitten · 21/02/2021 09:41

It’s my daughters name. It’s an old family name too, I also know an Augustine (boy) who’s Chilean . I’m personally a bit peeved it’s now going to be stupidly popular.

TonightMatthew · 21/02/2021 09:48

I'm not sure it will take off that much to be honest.

It also strikes me as more of a girl's name, there's something feminine about it to my ear (although Augustus and Augustine are boyish)

I had Augusta on my long list for DC3 due this year but it does make me waver a bit

31RooCambon · 21/02/2021 09:51

Yeh, when fergie called Beatrice Beatrice, that still didn't ''take off'' for another ten years when it came back in to fashion in accordance with the natural cycle of its popularity.

whenwillthemadnessend · 21/02/2021 09:54

I really like it. Augusta is a Roman name. It's very old.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/02/2021 10:17

@TwelvePaws

He looks very cute and mum and dad look very happy. Something tells me OPs not very happy with her life. 🍑🍩
I wish I had psychic powers like this. OP typed August? Hmm, said nothing else and yet it's clear to TwelvePaws that she's unhappy. Blimey.
MartiniDry · 21/02/2021 10:19

It's not to my taste but then it's not my baby either!

I find the second name far more of an interesting choice under the current circumstances.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/02/2021 10:29

@31RooCambon

As a royal he won't need to change himself to fit in. He can be whoever he likes with a strange name and it'll all be fine.

I was watching that show ''Behind her Eyes'' on netflix earlier and interestingly (?! well, to me) I see that Memphis Eve Hewson has changed the name that Bono saddled her with to just Eve Hewson.

Zowie Bowie is now Duncan Jones.

Moon Unit Zappa appears to have stuck with her name.

Too early to say if North West may feel she wants to change her name in due course.

Not necessarily. My son has one of those names and out of 200 boys in his year at school only one other shared his first name. There were none in his year at primary school. It was a similar story with my daughter's name, which has probably never left the top 100 since naming records began. Fashionable names are more likely to be over-represented, and also more likely to date in due course.
