@peak2021

There are worse things than having a stupid name. A grandfather who at best condones someone who abuses teenage girls and young women, for a start.
And that’s anything to do with the baby or his parents, because?
simonisnotme · 20/02/2021 17:39

we have one in nursery- mom calls him Augy daft name tbh

Grilledaubergines · 20/02/2021 17:39

@CovidCraziness

I think it's a ridiculous name for a boy born in winter (maybe ok ish for a non royal girl born in summer) but I'm in the minority! And anyway, I shouldn't think they care about my views!!!! :)
Perhaps because he wasn’t named after a calendar month?
Enko · 20/02/2021 17:40

I like it

CovidCraziness · 20/02/2021 17:42

Well if they were naming after Augustus, why not name him Augustus? Much more fitting name for a royal I think! Like it or not people associate 'August' with a month!

(Like if you called me jelly, people would associate it with a dessert, even if it was some ancient name for goddess)

Yesmate · 20/02/2021 17:43

Mind your own business. They don’t give a shit about your kids names so why do you about theirs 🙄

31RooCambon · 20/02/2021 17:43

I like Augustin or Augustine in French or Spanish but just plain August in English..... well, you can't be ordinary with a name like that.

31RooCambon · 20/02/2021 17:44

Relax.
NewScone · 20/02/2021 17:45

I looked on Wikipedia after this came up in another thread and there are/were a lot of Estonian Wrestlers called August.

Lochmorlich · 20/02/2021 17:45

It’s nothing to do with month.
The emphasis is on the second syllable.
Or gust rather than Oorr gst .
August means respected and impressive apparently.

ParkheadParadise · 20/02/2021 17:47

Poor Wean called
August Brooksbank 🤣🤣

tofuschnitzel · 20/02/2021 17:49

@Thomasina79

He can quietly drop it when he is older and tell everyone his name is Phillip.
Why? It's not exactly an embarrassing name.

I'm quite sure Eugenie and her husband couldn't care less what anyone thinks about the name they have chosen to call their son. Why anyone thinks their opinion on this actually matters is beyond me.

ChristOnAPeloton · 20/02/2021 17:51

I quite like August.

Hawke is fantastic tho!

31RooCambon · 20/02/2021 17:53

As a royal he won't need to change himself to fit in. He can be whoever he likes with a strange name and it'll all be fine.

I was watching that show ''Behind her Eyes'' on netflix earlier and interestingly (?! well, to me) I see that Memphis Eve Hewson has changed the name that Bono saddled her with to just Eve Hewson.

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 20/02/2021 17:53

@OneFamilyToRuleUsAll

August? Someone says "without it being too out there"? Pretty sure it's too out there and a bit naff even if it's a nod to birthday but hey, it's our beloved Eugenie, so no problems.

And Hawke? Someone seems to be copying MM with an American-sounding name. Archie and August Hawke.

Yeah I said it and yes I'm posting this again. Of course people like the odd names, they aren't MM's child's names. Hypocrites!

You must not know much about "American Sounding Names" if you think Archie is one.
peak2021 · 20/02/2021 17:54

@tofuschnitzel whilst not applicable here, I hope every parent would think about how a name might be abbreviated and also whether or not it makes a child a target for name calling or worse. I'd also hope that a child would not have to be forever telling others such as teachers or other children how their name is spelt, hence my dislike for non-conventional spellings of names.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 20/02/2021 17:54

Eugenie herself had her name fully criticized when she was first named

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 20/02/2021 17:56

Well compared to his mothers name I suppose he got off lightly 🤷🏻‍♀️

Certainly wouldn't be my choice, but they seem to have forgotten to ask me!!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 20/02/2021 17:58

Do you not mean when she was born?!

I suspect it's been ongoing her whole life, poor thing.

Hippopotas · 20/02/2021 18:00

I like it

Anyoneelsewilldo · 20/02/2021 18:10

I can’t believe everyone is saying Gus is a good strong name! When he starts school it’ll be Gus the Wuss / Wussie Gussie

Awful name for a child.

As I said earlier on this thread it’s like the name of a bird! The lesser spotted August Phillip-Hawk

Dreadful.

Moywa · 20/02/2021 18:11

I find it odd for a boy. Why not just stick with Augustus?

Janegrey333 · 20/02/2021 18:14

It’s nothing to do with the month he was born.

MrsSteveMcDonald · 20/02/2021 18:16

I'd much prefer Augustus, Roman names are almost always fab. Not overly keen on Hawke either but I like classical sounding names over modern ones

TonightMatthew · 20/02/2021 18:23

I think it's great! Augustus possibly would feel more finished but I like it.

I do sort of get the time of year thing though. I was bemused by a colleague calling her December-born baby Summer
