Casiloco blimey, are those names for real?

Are you in London per chance? Confused

PandaPopz · 21/02/2021 20:39

I know it’s not the same as a human baby but I do call my pets human names.. my kitten is called August and I call him Auggie for short and I think it’s sweet and traditional for a baby boy too. Blush

phoenixrosehere · 21/02/2021 20:48

What’s wrong with it?

It reminds me of the movie “August Rush”.

I can’t be bothered about what people name their kids and why do you care what a stranger names their kid? Seems a bit immature to be judging a baby’s name because you don’t like it.

Topazmumma · 21/02/2021 21:35

It could be shortened to Gus, which could be quite cute for a little prince

SleepingStandingUp · 21/02/2021 21:51

@MadMadaMim

My nan was called Augustina and my granddad was August.

YouKnowItsTrue

Yup - all completely genuine! All within the last couple of years. The parents are same ages as my DSs but fortunately they have managed to choose "normal" names.

And no, not London - sleepy semi-rural, semi-suburban Sussex. Not exactly Hollywood!

LizzyA123 · 21/02/2021 22:21

Is this pronounced August as in the month or as in Augustus?

StillCoughingandLaughing · 21/02/2021 22:43

What’s the difference?

Shopaholic100 · 21/02/2021 22:49

I like their reasoning behind the names chosen. They seem like a genuinely happy couple and the family picture is lovely. I wish them all the best.

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 21/02/2021 23:21

It’s a family name. Prince Albert was Albert Augustus, and one of his daughters was Helena Augusta. My son has a middle name that’s objectively slightly daft but is a family one. It’s not like they’ve called him Chardonnay Twinkle Pants.

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 21/02/2021 23:24

Also if my history serves me correctly, the month of August is named for the emperor of that name, the name doesn’t derive from the month.

Mamanyt · 21/02/2021 23:36

Means "respected and impressive," which is almost a guarantee that this child will be a world-class clown.

Lalliella · 22/02/2021 00:04

@saffy2

What a mean person you are op. 100% agree with the poster asking for your children’s names. I suspect you wouldnt be happy if we ridiculed their names...and we wouldn’t because that would make us horrible people.... I wonder what this thread makes you.
@saffy2 Did I ridicule anything?? You wouldn’t ridicule my kids’ names because they’re mainstream and average. I just like a baby name discussion. August would not be my choice as it’s not mainstream enough for my tastes.

@Ploughingthrough

TwelvePaws writing What a twat you are.

Is it necessary to call somebody that on an internet forum? So mean spirited to name-call like that because you didn't find the original post long enough.

@Ploughingthrough it’s kind of you to be concerned but I couldn’t care less if @TwelvePaws thinks I’m a twat 😂

Voted YABU for the Vaguebooking and not an actual clue what you were on about.

BlueThistles · 22/02/2021 01:15

Like the Name August .... it's very cool 🎉

Prince Chardonnay Twinkle Pants would be brilliant !!!
myfaceismyown · 22/02/2021 01:48

Nothing wrong with August. Lettuce was a popular Victorian name, as was Anaesthesia. Many worse names than August. Think of all the poor Dwaynes or Chardonays that had to live with that monica!

TartanTexan · 22/02/2021 02:05

Lettice not Lettuce in the main, I think?

phoenixrosehere · 22/02/2021 04:55

You wouldn’t ridicule my kids’ names because they’re mainstream and average.

So then you would be happy to share them and see if your statement is true? If they are so common than they wouldn’t be particularly outing unless you have hmm-ed the name August to others.

saffy2 · 22/02/2021 05:28

I think mainstream and average names are a bit wet and pathetic to be honest, I really dislike them and I would never use an average name for my kids. So... I suspect I would indeed roll an eye at your baby names if I was a mean person. However I’m certain that if someone started a thread like this about your baby names you wouldn’t like it. Because it’s pretty mean. And having an average name really really doesn’t make it better than an unusual name, so I’d stop with that mantra. You’re just making yourself look worse in my opinion.

@saffy2 I honestly couldn’t care less what people think about my kids’ names, they like them and that’s all that matters to me, and that’s what I think people should think about when naming a child. Think about it from their perspective. I wouldn’t particularly want to be called August personally.

I’m not putting my kids’ names on here as it could be outing when put together with my other posts.

It’s lovely they have used family names.

August is ok, prefer Augustus but Gus is fab and Gus Brooksbank sounds really good.
Gus really does not rhyme with wuss. I know a couple of Angus’s who go by Gus or Gussy.

I loved the book and film Wonder but I really didnt like the nickname Auggie. Although it does sound better in an American accent.

Agree that Albert while full of meaning and history is a crap name and Albie is the wettest nickname I can think of so August was a much better choice.
