Yes the month August was named after Augustus. July was in honour of Julius Ceadar . October was originally the 8th month ( Oct meaning 8) then August and July were squeezed in by the Romans.

Soubriquet · 21/02/2021 10:38

I wouldn’t use it for my children but it’s nice

Mishmased · 21/02/2021 11:51

@Awwlookatmybabyspider

"Beatrice and Eugenies' names are Beatrice and Eugenie."

Well if you hadn't have told me that I'd never have known. What other revealing info do you have for us. That water is wet, A shark shits in the ocean. The Pope is a Catholic. Planes fly. Grin. Light hearted hence the grin

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@MartiniDry

It's not to my taste but then it's not my baby either!

I find the second name far more of an interesting choice under the current circumstances.

In what way? It's the name of her very old Grandad who is unlikely to live to see the boy start school
LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 21/02/2021 13:18

Zowie Bowie is now Duncan Jones

He’s always been Duncan Jones since he was first named - Zowie Bowie was a nickname

BunnyRuddington · 21/02/2021 13:21

I really, really like it. Not sure why but I think it shows some individuality from usual royal names without being too put there.

I stand corrected, @LimaFoxtrotCharlie!
VinylDetective · 21/02/2021 13:34

He’s actually registered Duncan Zowie Haywood Jones.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/02/2021 15:02

You couldn't get more polar opposite than Duncan and Zowie, could you?

RiverSkater · 21/02/2021 15:18

The main character in Wonder was called August, Auggie for short.

Yes! I remember thinking his name was 'Oggie' at first (I think I missed the beginning of the film).

A very likeable hero.

SleepingStandingUp · 21/02/2021 16:10

@TonightMatthew

I laughed at people thinking Gus and Wuss rhymed but now I've tried it in my best attempt at a North/West English accent I can sort of get it.

For much of the country they don't sound the same at all so little Gus will be safe from that particular moniker Wink

If you're going to claim Gus and Wuss and Cous Cous don't rhyme, I need to phonetics
Ninkanink · 21/02/2021 16:13

Wuss and cous cous do rhyme.

Gus does not.

SleepingStandingUp · 21/02/2021 16:14

@Ninkanink

Wuss and cous cous do rhyme.

Gus does not.

So how do you pronounce them?
ancientgran · 21/02/2021 16:15

How is Gus pronounced? I'm think of Gus McDonald being announced on TV, pretty sure it was rhyming with wuss and couscous.

ballsdeep · 21/02/2021 16:16

@Originalyellowbelly

I like it, it's a refreshing change from the usual royal names.
I agree. I think it's a lovely name. They look so happy and proud. Leave them alone!
Ninkanink · 21/02/2021 16:20

Gus rhymes with pus (gunky, infected stuff) as per my previous comment with a link to pronunciation of the latter.

However apparently there are regional variations.

Runnerduck34 · 21/02/2021 16:20

Not that keen on it, I think the traditional name Augustus shortened to Gus would have been better.
August sounds more like a month than a name to me.

Ninkanink · 21/02/2021 16:21

Ahhhh! Aha, I think I know what the issue is! If it’s short for Angus (for example) it would possibly be closer to ‘wuss’!

I don’t really care tbh, I’m not even British! Wink

But gus and pus and cous cous all rhyme with wuss. Someone explain how they don't please?
Poorlykitten · 21/02/2021 16:28

Because idiots pronounce it Kooskoos instead of kuskus, which does of course rhyme with pus and wuss and Gus....regional accents may differ obvs.

TwelvePaws · 21/02/2021 16:30

I wish I could. I’m as confused as you are. 🤣 Sitting here saying ‘gus, wuss, pus and now cous cous.’ How can they not all rhyme????? 🤯

ancientgran · 21/02/2021 16:31

Yes to me Gus, pus, couscous and wuss all rhyme.

Ninkanink · 21/02/2021 16:34

Puss (as in pussy cat), and cous cous.
