To hire a hot tub for my 9 year olds birthday? Any experiences?

9 year old daughter’s birthday.
I won’t go in to detail, but for various reasons - it has been a particularly difficult time for her.

She asks for nothing, and this breaks my heart.

So... I would love to make her birthday really fly in the absence of a party, meal out, get together with extended family etc.

Hot tub for the garden for 3 days.

Any experiences?

I have NO experience of them but I do know my daughter is a water baby!

Many thanks

I want to do this too but our garden courtyard is currently a mud pit so doubt we'd be able to hire one! Planning on doing it later in the year when garden is landscaped. Also think adults would get more enjoyment due to water temp?

Bunnybigears · 19/02/2021 18:33

Will she actually enjoy it? My similarly aged kids would enjoy it for maybe 30 minutes but without friends to share it with would soon get bored.

MsMarch · 19/02/2021 18:34

Go for it! I looked at it for DS' birthday last year. She'll love it. We have friends who have one and the kids absolutely love it.

Paul72 · 19/02/2021 18:37

I have only been in a hot tub once. I enjoyed it.

If you can hire one, afford the cost, and it is just the family using it go for it. She is nine and needs something to cheer her up.

What made it so good? How long did you have do? How was the weather? Thank you!

I'd love a hot tub, but I'm not convinced that it would appeal to a 9yo.

PracticingPerson · 19/02/2021 18:53

I think that's a weird choice for a 9yo, they are really boring.

Can't you get a bouncy castle or something?

BoysRule · 19/02/2021 18:54

We hired one between Christmas and new year for 3 days. DSs 11 and 8 loved it! They went in as soon as they woke up and again in the afternoon and evening. They love swimming and making up water games and did that the whole time. We all went in in the evening and made up silly games which they loved.

Givemeabreak88 · 19/02/2021 18:55

I do think it’s a bit weird for a 9 year old sorry, I think they would enjoy it with friends but not alone.

Boysnme · 19/02/2021 18:56

We wanted to hire one for a week last October. Ended up buying one as it was the same price and haven’t turned it off since ( not quite the same price now after months of high electricity 🤣)

My kids are 9 & 11 and love it. We often let them put an iPad on a table and watch a film in it, I spend time out in it chilling.

The kids do enjoy it with friends better so if you are able to have her friends too I’m sure she’d love it!

My 9 year old also wants a pool party for his birthday too.

Frazzled99 · 19/02/2021 18:57

We bought one recently and my 7 and 9 yo DSDs love it so much. As soon as they come home they're asking to go in it and have so much fun. Definitely does appeal to 9yos.

VaVaGloom · 19/02/2021 18:58

@Boysnme how much did you pay if you don't mind saying? Is it a faff to maintain?

Iooselipssinkships · 19/02/2021 18:59

We did it for my daughter's 10th birthday at her request and it was fab! Came with a gazebo, some blow up palm trees and decorations. She used it with us, her younger brother and best friend. We'd hired it for 3 days and they spent whole time in it. Was looking at doing it again today just out of boredom! She'll love it OP.

megletsecond · 19/02/2021 18:59

Eeew, no. You have no idea what bacteria is in a rental hot tub.

Phial · 19/02/2021 18:59

We did it for my ten year old DS last year. We spent time as a family in it and in ones/twos. The weather was warm though (last summer). He still talks of it, so thinking of doing it again this year.

hellswelshy · 19/02/2021 18:59

Ha we are doing this right now! Had it delivered yesterday, it's until Sunday. We had a gazebo with it too, thankfully as it's been really rainy. It was a treat for us too for dd's birthday Smile

duffmcstockings · 19/02/2021 19:02

I hired one for my daughters 17th, the summer before last. There was a few issues with getting it in so look at your access. We had to hire it for the whole weekend, and we had it an extra day because they can't drop them off all at once. I had a party, my daughter had a party, all my family came round. Happy times. Grin

BrilliantBetty · 19/02/2021 19:03

My friend (and neighbour) recently did this for her 9 year old DD's bday.
It was a big hit, apparently, but she is the middle of 3 sisters so at least she could enjoy with others.
It was £200 for the weekend my friend said. It came with a little gazebo and some pool / beach related theming.

It didn't look the best quality honestly from the pics (an inflatable type) but glad they enjoyed.

frippit · 19/02/2021 19:03

We have a basic inflatable lazy spa. My grandaughters are water babies and play in it for ages. I think its a lovely idea. You could combine it with other activities during the day too.
Have a mermaid themed birthday day. I got my grandaughter a mermaid themed birthday in a box as she couldn't have friends round due to covid. It was from a local party business and was for a family. It was excellent.

A rental hot tub will be cleaned and disinfected between hires. It will also be clean fresh water. They don't come with other people's water ffs.
Chewit2022 · 19/02/2021 19:06

Wonderful
I’m going to proceed
She and her brother (and me!) both absolute water babies and will be a real treat!

Thank v much

A niece did this for her 11 yr old’s birthday. Great success.

duffmcstockings · 19/02/2021 19:09

We got a lovely wooden one, so shop around. It was great for it to come and great to see it go. You do have to nurture it like your off.

DavidsSchitt · 19/02/2021 19:11

Go for it! My kids love ours, lots of fun. Do her a full blown garden party and pray for the weather Grin
