To hire a hot tub for my 9 year olds birthday? Any experiences?

9 year old daughter’s birthday.
I won’t go in to detail, but for various reasons - it has been a particularly difficult time for her.

She asks for nothing, and this breaks my heart.

So... I would love to make her birthday really fly in the absence of a party, meal out, get together with extended family etc.

Hot tub for the garden for 3 days.

Any experiences?

I have NO experience of them but I do know my daughter is a water baby!

Many thanks

What a fantastic idea! I’ve loved reading this thread and hearing about the people who have done this and loved it. I didn’t even know it was possible to hire a hot tub! My children would absolutely love this. Unfortunately we live in a tower block so no outside space but if and when we ever get a garden I’ll do this. You’ve inspired me OP and I hope your daughter loves her birthday!

I think she'd love it and you should go for it. My DC have loved them at holiday cottages from a young age

We once borrowed an inflatable one from my BIL for DDs beach themed party. I think she was 9/10 and it was a big hit. Lots of cute pics of all the girls in it.
It was in no way as good as the proper holiday cottage ones. It takes a lot of water and ages to heat up and didn't stay as warm but for the purpose of a kids party they really enjoyed it.

We hired one for my 6 year old’s birthday in November. Best idea I’ve ever had. She’s a water baby and has missed swimming and is small enough to swim in it. We had it for 4 days and all spent most of that time in it. You’ll love it!

How close does it have to be to an indoor tap to fill it- my kitchen is at the front of the house, although it has a side door to outside so a very long hose would reach round to back garden. I also have an outdoor garden tap- can it be filled from that?
Would you take a baby in it? My DD is turning 7 is May and hiring a hot tub might be a good idea for her birthday (will be her second pandemic birthday bless her). I’m due second DD in March so will be around 2 months old by then, can she have a little bob around in the water (obviously held by an adult) or is it too hot/chemicals too harsh?

It is cheaper to heat it from a hot tab and keep it warm than to heat it from a cold outdoor tap but there is nothing wrong with doing either, both will work (assuming you have a hose attachment for your tap).

I personally wouldn’t take a baby in a hot tub, the temp gauge isn’t always totally reliable and I’d be unsure on the chemicals.

We hired one for a week in January. Our 11 year DS loved it and was in there every evening. It's a bit of a different one because its fixed inside a converted horse trailer so the weather is no issue and it was nice and private. They bring it to your house, fill it and get it all set up and then it takes 24 hours to heat. It has fairy lights inside and Bluetooth for music. Best lock down treat by far Smile If you happen to live in West Yorkshire op (or anyone else who's thinking about one) and are interested in hiring it, I can put you in touch with the company.

I can’t quite get my head around the logistics of getting a horse trailer in to my garden!

@Chewit2022 I probably should have explained that better!! We had it on the drive at the front of the house. It wouldn't have gone into the garden as the gap at the side of the house is too small.

I’ve just booked one for DS 11th birthday in April. He loves a hot tub!! I went slightly overboard and also booked a projector screen and it comes with a gazebo. So hot tub and a movie.

Weather is irrelevant though! I think they’re even better in cold weather.

I think it’s a lovely thing to do as kids have missed out on so much for so long. DS had a rubbish zoom call party for his birthday last year.

I hired one for 5th birthday. DC also a water baby and LOVED it. And I got to use it in the eve . Win-win!

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 20/02/2021 18:17

Do you have to have an outdoor socket to plug it into? I can’t quite work out the logistics of power supply.

I’m so excited about this and I live in a tower block. We have no space at all. But I’m definitely doing this when and if we ever move!
