To ask what was the most awkward/inappropriate gift you have ever received?

Mine was for my 15th birthday from my brother. He got me 3 pairs of underwear in different colours, they had a picture of lips embroidered on them and the middle of said lips cut out, and underneath they said ‘kiss me’

I never wore them. Never will. Ever.

Completely inappropriate for a 15 year old or from a relative. I must have gone red when I opened the wrapping. My brother is autistic and has mild learning disabilities though, so maybe he hadn’t picked up that this would not be appropriate.

What is everyone else’s?

Unwrapped an adult drinking game once when I was 8. DM looked confused, phone rang an hour later and it was my Grandma asking what I'd unwrapped from her because my uncle (who is only 11 years older than me) had just unwrapped a build your own teddy bear kit. Grin

A man's Gillette set - shaving foam, razor plus replacement head, washbag to keep them in - from my in-laws. I am not a man. Meanehile DH and the DC got several very nice gifts including new clothes and cash, I had to pretend to be really happy with it and DH was sitting there horrified. They must have realised something was up as they very quickly pointed out that the massive tin of sweets that was part of DH's presents was actually for us to share so really I got a men's shaving kit and half a tin of sweets. Score.

From same in-laws, another year, a Lush gift set. Lovely! Except it was partially used complete with a suspect hair dried onto the side of the squidgy bar of soap.

Wasn't me but the first Christmas after my now DH and I started dating his mum bought him a thong (for non British that a pair of underwear with a thin strap that goes up your bum, usually worn by women not men).

We still don't know what made her think 'ah, DS finally has a girlfriend, he needs a thong now!' 😂

He did wear them for giggles a few times though.

A (pretty tacky looking) necklace and earrings set from my uncle and aunt. I was in New Zealand at the time so they'd made quite an effort to get it to me! I don't wear jewellery at all and don't have my ears pierced...

@Idontlikecheesecake He can't have realised! I went on a trip to London when I was about 12 with a dance group I was in. I bought a keyring that had a stress ball type thing attached. It was only years later that I realised it was a penis Blush I was one of the youngest in the group so I don't know what the older girls must have thought!

My fiancé's brothers partner bought me a sexual type board game for Christmas (I think I'd only met her 2-3 times and definitely weren't close AT ALL). It was so awkward as I had had to unwrap it in front of his parents.. Confused

I have the opposite. My aunt bought me two multipacks of giant, nude coloured underpants that were many sizes too big. I was a hot, toned 20 year old at the time, so I can only assume she wanted to make me less sexy Grin

My DH’s granny bought me three size 6 tops for Christmas last year. A lovely thought, but I’m a size 16. She has eyes so definitely knows I’m not (nor have I ever been) a size 6.

I told DH I’ll stitch them all together and then they might fit 😂

I'm friends with a married couple whose gift choices for me have sometimes been somewhat illogical. One Christmas about 15 years ago while I was living alone and perpetually single, for some reason they felt that the thing I really needed at the time was a board game for multiple players Hmm. It was still in the cellophane over a decade later when I finally got rid.

I was on holiday at my DP parents, it was my second year skiing. I was already mardy as it was gone lunch time and I still had been given my present. When in my DP walks with skis complete with Christmas wrapping paper. My face said it all.....

I was so embarrassed and annoyed that he would spend so much money on something I could only use one week a year! Very ungrateful I know 🤣
