...or items?

Mine have been:

  1. A large transparent command hook that I put on the side of a chest of drawers to hang my hairdryer on (I tried lots of other sticky hooks before but that was the only one that actually worked)
  1. Buying all the same clothes hangers so DD's clothes look tidier
  1. A large kitchen sink tidier which has instantly made the kitchen side less messy

I am on a constant mission to improve our living spaces, so AIBU to ask what yours have been?

RandomGirl which spiky ball pls?

herecomesthsun · 19/02/2021 20:21

@MrsAvocet

Hair clippers for me. It's now about a year since my DH and 2 sons went to the hairdressers so I reckon we've saved quite a lot of money, and whilst obviously I'm not up to professional standards, they look ok. When hairdressers reopened they all said they were happy for me to keep doing it anyway.
Ah. DS needs a haircut, but he has layers cut in. I'd love to give him a haircut but don't want to mess it up.

Some lovebirds right there! @itsnotmeitsu

joesev · 19/02/2021 20:23

RandomGirl which spiky ball do you favour?

Blueskiesdazzleme · 19/02/2021 20:25

Peloton bike and heated throw! Never need to leave the house again.....

belleofball · 19/02/2021 20:29

@Blindstupid

Dartboard for the garden.
By far our best purchase last April. Played darts everyday with 3 (bored) grown up sons & hubby.
Mothership4two · 19/02/2021 20:32

First lockdown - Outdoor table tennis and inflatable pool (replacing old one but dh ordered a very large one by accident) with filter and filter that slightly warms water
Large long waterproof coat
Outdoor goal
Largish bird feeder (this did replace small really old one)
Pizza stone and paddles - for "fun" weekly family pizza nights
Long rubber tap shower that attaches to kitchen tap and can be passed out the window and is great washing a (constantly) muddy dog
Playing cards
Two eco electric heaters for dh and ds who feel cold sitting working whereas other ds, dog and I don't which stopped central heating being constantly on
Hair clippers
Tongue scrappers (not really a lockdown issue but did notice smelly breaths a lot more!)

Other things we already had but I was grateful for: dartboard and one ds has a rowing machine and the other weights with all the bits that goes with it. Tent and equipment. Hammock. Uno. Bread machine. Coffee machine. Kindle.

"thread in classics about An outbreak of Covid for the Playmobil people". I'll head for that @IsIgnoranceBliss - sounds great! I can't believe there are others like me! I bought a piece from a local artist a few weeks ago that was a framed set of five Playmobil people, with the middle one holding a sign that says "Join My Cult". It was in the window, and the gallery is currently closed, but as soon as I spotted it I got in touch through their email address. It was like it was made for me as I really do feel, through the conduit of Covid-19, that I've joined the Playmobile cult. I wouldn't mind, but I never owned any Playmobil as a child - it didn't exist then Confused.

Note to self : Maybe think about changing username.

Mothership4two · 19/02/2021 20:35

We did get Netflix which has been well used as well. And already had access to Amazon Prime. DH also got a radio/cd player that we can all use with their phones - well not me as phone is from the Jurrasic period!

mamaduckbone · 19/02/2021 20:35
  • A milk frother jug for proper frothy coffee
  • ALL the TV subscriptions (Amazon, Netflix, Disney + Blush)
  • A mid calf length down coat and big scarf for winter walks and playground duty
  • fur lined leggings for work (I'm a teacher - it's been freezing with all the windows open)
Pinkandwhiteblossom · 19/02/2021 20:35

Trampoline. We’d resisted one for years as we didn’t want to look at it. But it’s an amazing stress reliever, particularly for DC1.

dawnant21 · 19/02/2021 20:50

Exactly that one !!

WorriedMillie · 19/02/2021 21:05

First lockdown-OH bought a huge, above ground pool, that required a heater/filter/chemicals and re-levelling part of the garden . I wasn’t entirely in agreement (slight understatement), but with hindsight, it was a great purchase and we’ve had lots of use out of it thus far, with hopefully years of use to follow

This lockdown- a soup maker (fab!) and a pizza oven (not yet set up)

WatchWatch · 19/02/2021 21:08
  1. A proper coffee machine (sage barista touch)
  1. Ski suit for DC1 (for cold, wet walks)
  1. Thick wool socks for me.

But the not buying has been the best thing.

dudsville · 19/02/2021 21:11

I bought what I can only describe as a kaftan. It's a shirt dress from COS. Fabulous pockets and acute collar with a placket over the buttons. It's a soft cotton with a pale stripe. It's massive. I swan around in it.

singsingbluesilver · 19/02/2021 21:11

Hammock
Hair clippers
Fire stick
Netflix subscription
Lots of spring bulbs
Bird feeders

StillGoingToWork · 19/02/2021 21:14

My DH would say his Nintendo lite #acnh

We are redecorating and chucking out tired furniture so I think my best purchase is a new sofa.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/02/2021 21:31

If we're talking clothes, I bought knee socks from Seasalt for wearing under boots. LOVE them - so cosy!

Sapho47 · 19/02/2021 21:36

@fromcooktochef

OMG that´s amazing. Which one did you buy ? I could only dream of it as we´re travelling. I research and review kitchen tools and tips and I really want one of these as soon as we can settle ! So instead, I wrote a detailed review on the one I want Grin. It´s on my website in the tools (outdoor cooking) section. I´d love to hear any feedback there if you get a chance !
How do you review something you don't have?
CoRhona · 19/02/2021 21:41

@squooz you are brave letting your DD cut your hair!!

@ladydanburyscane these are the hangers we bought, I am slowly working my way round to changing all of our current ones to them: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01M0ISVTQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Divider thingys for the kitchen drawers so all the recharged batteries are in one section and the old ones in another with the spare phone leads all neatly wound up in another. Have some for the bedroom drawers too but haven't got round to that yet.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/02/2021 22:03

I bought lots of these hangers (pre lockdown) and really like them.

gabsdot45 · 19/02/2021 22:05

We bought a cabin for the garden. DH uses it as a home office.
Definitely our best purchase

Can I ask which soup maker, would love one but many have mixed reviews about burning food so I’m a little wary.
loveyouradvice · 19/02/2021 22:20

Furry lined crocs... only ones they had for wet gardening but wow they are ace... emptying bins in cold weather, getting the mail, pottering round the garden with the dog...
