Is it suspicious and should I report? Not Covid!

I say report - I mean the police but it is only suspicious to me - I moved here from London and have street cred awareness of surroundings.

I live in a super Naice Area. A stepford wives type housing estate. Well heeled, well to do, polite people, fashionable dogs and very quiet blah blah.

It's a complete dead end but has two roads in and out. It's quite large and has a supermarket in the middle so the main road at one end is busy but the rest is quiet.

I first saw this car maybe in November lockdown whilst walking with kids. Again in December twice. And again today. 4 times.

A man parked up. Windows open. (It's cold!). A 15 plate sporty Merc - nothing to note.

First time - parked up
Second time I saw him when I was driving home from work and he was driving out the estate (wiping his nose) right near where he parks.
Third time parked up - same place
Fourth time today - parked up same place.

Time always between 3-4pm.

When I saw him drive out he was alone so not picking someone up.

There is nothing to do on the road. It doesn't go anywhere. No schools are open.
He just sits there. Not on phone. Not talking. Just staring ahead.

Today I took a pretend photo of DC but actually was taking his number plate.

AIBU to be suspicious?
What do you think he's up to?

@user54328876

Not up his jacket

FFS...

Up his jacksy.

Pissing autocorrect ruined my ha ha.

Brilliant! Alas I don't think so - he sits like he's winning musical statues. I'm sure I would notice wriggling.

Maybe he popped one of the marker pens up there....

He could be a social worker in between calls/visiting

Its all so intriguing op.!😕

Vallmo47 · 18/02/2021 18:58

This made me giggle, thanks OP. 👍

hangryeyes · 18/02/2021 19:00

The road outside my house is where it begins move out to countryside from the town. It is an overpass with a nice view but is otherwise a bit of a weird place to stop as there’s not really anything there. When I first moved here I was perturbed by the various lone cars that parked up just to sit there or stare out over the bridge. My home office looks out over it and I’ve noticed the same cars doing it repeatedly.
I think people just come across an easy place to park up and come back to it, whether they just want to decompress, have a quick smoke, or do some paperwork between jobs.

seeunexttime · 18/02/2021 19:00

Sitting in your parked car regularly is a crime and should be taken extremely seriously. OP have you considered a career in the police? Or maybe as a PI? Good work.

pipsqueakbollock · 18/02/2021 19:00

I get all the posts about taking a break etc.... but like @Mylittlesandwich says - if you were sitting there for some chill time, you'd be 'doing' something - the coffee, playing on phone, radio, or even leaning back with your eyes shut....

He just stares straight ahead (god, now I've written this, I'm feeling all spooky as well as suspicious.

Definitely not an estate agent, alas his car isn't swanky enough for the house prices (sorry to sound so snobby) but estate agents love this area - always a good money maker for them and guaranteed quick sales.

Of course there could be an innocent explanation, but the overwhelmingly most likely explanation is drug dealer, as you well know

BOING!!!!!

thosetalesofunexpected · 18/02/2021 19:03

Maybe just Maybe

He is a Bent Copper on the prowl

up to no good op. !??

😕

What do you think?

Reinventinganna · 18/02/2021 19:04

I drive to a quiet street away from work on my break and just sit. If I stay in the car park I feel like I’m still at work and this breaks up my day. I wonder if someone with London street cred will deem me as being suspicious?

Maybe his life is overwhelming and he likes to escape the home for a bit.
Maybe his wife/husband thinks he’s at work?

serialtester · 18/02/2021 19:06

Could he be having a posh wank?

pipsqueakbollock · 18/02/2021 19:06

@iklboo
I don't think he is DEALING drugs. I think they may be involved in the weirdness but I don't think he is a dealer.

How long is he there for each time?

yearinyearout · 18/02/2021 19:08

I'm thinking maybe he's between appointments and has IBS. He sits there with his windows open to fart in peace.

pipsqueakbollock · 18/02/2021 19:10

@Reinventinganna good point. Maybe he once lived near here and is sad and reminiscing.

pipsqueakbollock · 18/02/2021 19:12

@00100001 hard to say, but we are walking past with the dog and so along the road, we probably take about 5 -7 minutes to traverse the stretch before turning off one of the many footpaths between the cul-de-sacs. He can't drive out the way he faces, he would have to do a 3 point turn to leave.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 18/02/2021 19:15

Grin I will say that you are taking the ribbing in good part lol.

Another thought when i was assessing it was really intense sometimes. So honestly between sessions I might well park up for 5 minutes . I would just have a quiet bit before my next session. Now I'm worried I looked wierd and spooky.

I mean I blinked so not quite sit and stare. Now I can't remember what I did with my head ,possibly I did stare ahead thinking of nothing and something how to convince ds2 to eat veg that night probably

I didn't sit in supermarket car parks as too risky to get a ticket. So a quiet cul de sac would be perfect and if you find one where you aren't in anyone's way I could see returning it.

I am a relatively boring middle aged woman though so don't think I'd be too suspicious ( which possibly could be an excellent cover for drug dealing but will probably not start a new career just yet)

pipsqueakbollock · 18/02/2021 19:20

@Shinyletsbebadguys your post and user name made me realise exactly why I'm suspicious!

I'm watching Good Girls on Netflix (I'm watching it with a friend at set times then we chat about it on phone) so I'm obviously way over invested in middle class wife crime

pipsqueakbollock · 18/02/2021 19:23

@Spagootiba

Did sanitise his hands after wiping his nose ...
My issue with the nose wiping was that it wasn't snotty nose wiping of the side to side variety. It was the sort of wiping all of you tonight had in mind when reading my post and thinking I was snobby (I accept so much sounds snobby Grin)

Think of the motion on the nose you do to indicate someone is a snob- a sort of upward stoke but instead of with your finger tip, turn the finger over and stroke upwards using the front of your finger up to the knuckle.

A few years ago I had petty much the same scenario on my street. After a week or so of observing this stranger parking for long periods of time but never leaving his car or being approached by anyone I started to think perhaps he was "casing" the neighbourhood for likely targets for hoe/auto theft. I called the police (non-emergency #) and reported a suspicious vehicle and told them my concerns. A little while after my call the police called me back to tell me that it was an unmarked police car on "official business" . Within a few days they busted a large grow-op about a block from my home. FYI the unmarked police car was some kind of high end fancy tricked out SUV with mostly blacked out windows.

Hairstanding · 18/02/2021 19:23

I personally have never parked up in an area for any length of time and certainly haven't done so for days on end. I'd be fascinated too.

SquirmOfEels · 18/02/2021 19:25

If it's at the same time, I'd assume his DO or DC was working as a nanny or cleaner and he occasionally picks up. And clearlymsonetime picks nose as well

MrsWeebles · 18/02/2021 19:25

sorry for typos.......it was pRetty much the same scenario and I was concerned about potential hoMe/auto theft

viques · 18/02/2021 19:25

@bravotango

Yep you sound really 'aware'

I can understand why you moved from London, you must have been in a state of constant terror and twitching If the sight of a man sitting in a naice area in a six year old car has upset you this much. However did you cope with travelling on the tube with all those total strangers sitting in close proximity to you, playing games on their phones, reading, breathing, sniffing, eating sweeties. When you think about it could have been murderers, serial philanderers, shoplifters, vegetarians, astronauts, aliens... anything really.
