Cat pooing in neighbours garden

Hahaha88 · 18/02/2021 12:26

So my ndn stopped my partner yesterday and mentioned that our cats are pooing in their garden a lot. When he told me I was a bit Hmm because I'm not sure what she expects me to do? I've said to my partner we'll buy some sort of cat deterrent she can put in her garden but other than that I'm not sure what I can do. My cats (2) are outdoor cats and I won't be keeping them in as they love to be out. I keep a clean litter tray for them, which they do use but no doubt they will be pooping outside too as cats do.
We don't have the only cats on the estate so potentially it's not just mine pooing in it (I assume she's seen them rather than just deciding it must be mine).
Aibu to do nothing but provide cat deteerant?

Your cats, your responsibility. The fact that cats like to roam is irrelevant. You should cat proof your garden or keep your cats in the house.

I love cats, I'd like to have a cat, but I don't like dealing with cat shit, so I don't have a cat. I'd be fucking furious if I was having to clear cat shit out of my garden to facilitate my neighbour owning a cat.

If you lived next door to a dog owner and they threw their dog's shit over the fence on to your lawn, how would you feel about that?

Willyoujustbequiet · 18/02/2021 15:11

Go round and pick it up. Why should they it's your cat?

cheeseismydownfall · 18/02/2021 15:16

And offering to go round and pick it up is not an acceptable response. What happens if they fancy having a cup of tea in the garden at 7am, and there is a steaming pile of shit on the lawn? The only acceptable response is to stop it happening in the first place. If I was your neighbour quite frankly I would be royally fucked off that you were placing the wellbeing of your rescue cats (as if that makes any difference) above my right to a cat shit free garden.

Jayne35 · 18/02/2021 15:51

I’m glad you are offering to try and do something about it. I have a dog so the many local cats stay out of the back garden however they have taken to digging out my pot plants and shitting in them (at the front of the house).

justab0utsurviving · 18/02/2021 15:57

@Micah it was def a cat as it was seen by the neighbours. Not their cat though either.

RepulsedofRedbridge · 18/02/2021 15:59

Put up a sign warning cats not to poo in next doors garden in red letters that should do it

biddybird · 18/02/2021 16:03

can certainly offer to do a poop check once a week for her if she likes.

Do your cats only shit once a week then?

aliloandabanana · 18/02/2021 16:04

Ah, the hysteria! There are plenty of deterrents available that they can get. Cats are allowed to roam, that's life. They don't tend to poo right in the middle of pavements or on footpaths in the same way that dogs do, which must be partly why there are different rules.

When did people stop taking responsibility for their own gardens - doesn't seem to have occurred to the neighbours to look for deterrents. You've offered some help OP, leave it at that.

LST · 18/02/2021 16:11

I love hysterical cat shit threads 🤣 😂

Okbye · 18/02/2021 16:14

I hate cats for this very reason.

My next door neighbours have 2 of the bastard creatures that used to shit in my garden. I used my sons reasonably powerful kids water pistol to spray them whenever I saw them in my garden, that worked at deterring them.
They very rarely go in our garden now but I have the water pistol ready for when they do and I don't hesitate to spray the little bastards!

ooohbriefcase · 18/02/2021 16:23

"I used to have this problem, then I made a point of running at them like a screaming banshee whilst throwing the rake at them."

The image I have in my head 🤣🤣

supernova21 · 18/02/2021 20:23

It's a shame cats have to shit like the rest of us. It's an even bigger shame that they don't understand property boundaries.... a bit like every other non human animal out there.

supernova21 · 18/02/2021 20:28

@CallistoSol

If you're cats were shitting all over my garden it wouldnt be water I'd be shooting them with. Keep them in or get rid of them. Why should other people put up with your vile animals vile habits.
You sound just lovely. Does this just apply to cats, or do you go out of your way to harm every animal with the audacity to enter your garden? You do know it's illegal to cause unnecessary suffering to an animal, right?

Just leaving this here... '
The maximum sentence available for cases heard in Magistrates Courts have increased from six to twelve months. The maximum fine has risen from £5,000 to £20,000. In Crown Courts, where more serious cases are heard, the maximum sentence for animal cruelty has increased from two to five years.'

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 18/02/2021 20:32

You can use nets or rollers to keep them in your garden. Unfair that your neighbour has to deal with your animals shit.

I got really annoyed with one once that kept crapping all over my garden and kids treading in it and on one occasion falling and landing in some meaning I had to get a new coat, so I chucked vegetable oil at it. Funnily enough she managed to keep it in after it came home and smeared oil all over her furniture and carpets. Doesnt hurt the cat, pisses it off a bit but owners seem to become much more responsible and considerate once it's their possessions getting ruined.

HeckyPeck · 18/02/2021 20:34

These threads never fail to amuse!

Shock horror! An outdoor space has poo in 😱

Shooting a cat with a water gun isn’t against the law.
TowandaForever · 18/02/2021 20:38

@TaraR2020 why wouldn't you go round and pick it up? You chose to have a cat. Why should your neighbour clear after it?

Nogardenersworld · 18/02/2021 20:38

I HATE that people get cats and then just put them outside and now suddenly because you wanted a pet I have to check my garden and clean up extra poo.
I’m not sure what the solution is, but I get a new car poo in my garden most days and it’s disgusting. I’m not surprised your ndn isn’t happy about it.

supernova21 · 18/02/2021 20:40

@emilyfrost
It's not a water gun the previous poster was referring to.

Fair. I missed that.

ilovesooty · 18/02/2021 20:43

These threads are anything but amusing imo as they always draw people who think violence directed towards animals is acceptable.

Moonface123 · 18/02/2021 20:48

I find the people that love to kick up a fuss 're cats, are totally oblivious to how their own behaviour, impacts on their own neighbours. My neighbour is Mr Noisy, as soon as the sun comes out he's stomping around with power tools, his screaming, whinging kids then come.out for hours at a time, he's shouts and argues with wife, his drunken BBQs absolute stinks, his hot tub is noisy and he insists putting it on late at night, yet if my cat goes in his garden, enough said.

Tal45 · 18/02/2021 20:57

I hate cats, their impact on wildlife is awful not to mention what a nuisance they are to other people. I had to buy a cover for my outside table as the cats scratch it all up. My neighbours cat was hiding under our bench to catch birds at our feeders so I had to move the table. They dig up my veg patch and shit everywhere it's just foul.
No doubt the people finding it amusing are the people who own cats and are passive aggressively trying to make out how terribly silly and beyond ridiculous the people are that are affected by it.

timeforanother1 · 18/02/2021 20:57

We had neighbours cats doing this in our garden.
Not nice and not acceptable when you have toddlers kicking a ball around.

We knew what cats it was and told the neighbour who said she'd get them a litter tray!!!!!!! In all fairness she also kindly got us a deterrent.

Any other cats we scare away! So far so good. Smile
