she hates to use it, describing it as lumpy. it is great for eczema or dry skin, made of blended lemon skin, oats. is very kind and gentle to skin compared to bubbling soaps esp those with artificial fragrances, colours, etc. she was like sobbing with crocodile tears afterwards, should l just let her use the bubbling soaps?

No don’t let her use anything that hasn’t been made in your kitchen even though she is upset about it. Hmm

If she has sensitive skin there are plenty options between home made and manufactured bubbling soaps.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 16/02/2021 22:41

Surely there's a middle ground here where you buy her a cleanser for sensitive skin?

polkadotpjs · 16/02/2021 22:42

I think if she's sobbing you need to give her a break and find a compromise like using yours half the time and a shop one the rest

ChancesWhatChances · 16/02/2021 22:43
Hmm
ChristOnAPeloton · 16/02/2021 22:44

Yes, you should let her choose her own toiletries.

It’s part of growing up. She can move out in five years time.

PomPomSugar · 16/02/2021 22:45

Nobody should use foaming cleansers. Just start her with a shop bought non-foaming cleanser? There are plenty.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/02/2021 22:46

Can u stick it in a fancy jar?

As the mother of a dd with sensitive skin I sympathise. I mean she'd use something from lush right ? There's probably not that much difference between their homemade stuff compared to yours. She's being a bit daft

Regularsizedrudy · 16/02/2021 22:46

Do not put lemon on your skin

NewjobOldme · 16/02/2021 22:46

I have a 14 year old with eczema and sensitive skin. She uses a mild non-foaming Cerave wash and her skin is lovely.

Serin · 16/02/2021 22:47

I wouldn't call blended Lemon skin mild.
Hmm
Have a look at the Korean ranges, "soon jung" is very mild and gentle, fragrance free, has cool packaging and has saved my skin.

MadeOfStarStuff · 16/02/2021 22:47

This is not the hill you want to die on

She’s 11, she probably just wants to be like everyone else and not use some concoction her mum made. In time if the shop bought alternatives make her skin worse she might come around but in the end it’s her skin so her choice.

Merryoldgoat · 16/02/2021 22:48

Ffs - are people going actually mad?

MixedUpFiles · 16/02/2021 22:49

Let her choose from the many safe products on the market. I have severe allergies and there are cleansers I can buy that I enjoy using. If you want to help her make smart choices, start my downloading the Skin Safe App.

If she wants to use homemade products, let her explore with making her own.

She should absolutely be allowed to make her own choices within the constraints of your family budget.

Hankunamatata · 16/02/2021 22:50

Buy her something she likes for her face. Perhaps nice coconut soap or oiltaum soap.

Phoenix76 · 16/02/2021 22:51

I don’t know why op but the word impose gave me the shudders, it’s almost like it belongs in a dictatorship rather than home. That aside, is there nothing her gp can prescribe? If you haven’t already I’d be seeking their advice, my lovely friend’s dd has really bad eczema causing her horrific discomfort with the wounds getting infected and her gp prescribed a combination of topical medication which has proved extremely effective.

MySocalledLoaf · 16/02/2021 22:51

Micellar water would be fine, you can use it on babies.

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 16/02/2021 22:53

The pandemic is really impacting people’s behaviour and thinking, isn’t it?

riveted1 · 16/02/2021 22:53

Aveeno and dr organic are two good brands that aren’t made by her mum

Avoid lush soaps/shampoo like the devil - they all have detergent in them (SLS or SDS) so aren’t good for sensitive skin

riveted1 · 16/02/2021 22:54

Also neals yard if you don’t going a bit pricier!

Gazelda · 16/02/2021 22:54

Does she have eczema?

Can you do some research together to find something suitable that you're both happy with?

You sound quite strict/harsh. And a bit unfair to refer to 'crocodile tears'. Treat her as someone growing into a woman and she will start to behave like one.

DemolitionBarbie · 16/02/2021 22:55

She's 11, why does she need cleanser?

FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 · 16/02/2021 22:56

Oh god don't use lemon on skin especially if it's sensitive. No wonder she's crying.

Try cetaphil? Or nothing at all?

fluffiphlox · 16/02/2021 22:57

Bubbling soaps?

TheSockMonster · 16/02/2021 22:58

Does she have eczema? As far as I’m aware, lemon is great for purifying acne prone skin but best avoided, along with all citrus, on dry skin and with eczema.

Is she crying because it’s stinging?

iklboo · 16/02/2021 23:02

Crocodile tears? Wow.
