she hates to use it, describing it as lumpy. it is great for eczema or dry skin, made of blended lemon skin, oats. is very kind and gentle to skin compared to bubbling soaps esp those with artificial fragrances, colours, etc. she was like sobbing with crocodile tears afterwards, should l just let her use the bubbling soaps?

It might be helpful for really oily skin but eczema prone skin is dry. Washing her face with warm water is all that is needed

Yeah I agree alot of the face washes are dreadful. Even alot of the sensitive ones. Its all very well saying they should get to pick and it's part of growing up etc but when it's going to cause problems u do sometimes have to say no. I've had no end of tears over face paints and bubble baths etc but it's just not worth it. And there's no satisfaction in being proven right.

Lalliella · 17/02/2021 00:13

What have I just read? You’re forcing your daughter to put some homemade crappy quack remedy on her skin and showing zero sympathy when she cries? You really need to have a good long hard look at your parenting. Get her some Child’s Farm products. But that’s not really the issue here. You owe her a massive apology.

AWA' AN' BILE YER HEID! AngryAngry
When she cries and says no we will insist
violetbunny · 17/02/2021 00:18

WTF. Lemon peel is a skin irritant. Just because it's natural doesn't mean it's not harmful or irritating to the skin. Chillies are natural but you wouldn't want to rub one of them on your face either!!!

Cheeeeislifenow · 17/02/2021 00:18

Cerave is really great...simple feels like acid on my face

MrMeSeeks · 17/02/2021 00:21

Why are you using lemon on her skin??
Have you actually took her to the gp for help?
There are lots of options for eczema that are not lemon (!) and oats.

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 17/02/2021 00:28

Does anyone think MN has gone a bit... strange lately?

Whatwouldscullydo · 17/02/2021 00:45

Think its been strange a while ijust

Have you seen the beauty hoarders and zero spend threads where loads confess to using skin care and make up etc that's years old, mixing all their old stuff up and I've even seen recipes for deodorant. That's probably equally crazy and not so recent

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 17/02/2021 00:50

No I haven’t seen those. This last week just seems extra odd.

Mrmojorising71 · 17/02/2021 00:56

Lemon skin on skin that suffers with eczema, you are beyond unreasonable.

VienneseWhirligig · 17/02/2021 00:59

My sister in law has really bad skin - severe eczema, adult acne and dermagraphia - and uses the tea tree cleansers from Asda (their own brand) over anything she is prescribed, as that is the least abrasive for her. She's had all sorts on prescription. Home made lemon cleanser doesn't sound much fun, very drying I would imagine.

www.stephensonpersonalcare.com/blog/2018-07-31-what-makes-shower-and-bath-products-foam

^ interesting read on various surfactants and foaming agents. Seems there are some skin sensitive stuff you might be able to get a hold of and add to your mix so it foams

Redruby2020 · 17/02/2021 01:20

@PomPomSugar

Nobody should use foaming cleansers. Just start her with a shop bought non-foaming cleanser? There are plenty.
What is wrong with foaming types, does that include like mousse types too?
Redruby2020 · 17/02/2021 01:21

@NewjobOldme

I have a 14 year old with eczema and sensitive skin. She uses a mild non-foaming Cerave wash and her skin is lovely.
Which one is it, as there are 2 or 3 different ones I thought
starrynight21 · 17/02/2021 01:24

Lemon skin ? I'd be crying too .

abstractprojection · 17/02/2021 01:31

There are plenty of sensitive skin and eczema friendly products available. Some excellent ones are

Avenno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser, Fragrance Free

CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser

Neutrogena Ultra sensitive cleanser

Please and ask you as someone who suffers from eczema please don’t fixate on your daughters skin or impose what she must do. Gentle guidance is good. And just because things are natural does not mean they’re more gentle, many contain essential oils which like lemon or any citrus are irritants

Poppins2016 · 17/02/2021 01:31

Lemon is a really bad idea for young and sensitive skin, here's an extract from an article explaining why:

www.healthline.com/health/beauty-skin-care/honey-and-lemon-for-face#drawbacks-of-lemon

What are the drawbacks of using lemon on your face?

Lemon has a very low pH level, which makes it very acidic. Applying it to your skin can cause several side effects. Some of the possible side effects include the following:

Skin irritation. This is the most common side effect of using lemon on your face. Because it’s highly acidic, lemon may cause dryness, flakiness, redness, and peeling. These side effects can be more severe if you have sensitive skin.Sensitivity to sunlight.Known asphytophotodermatitis, this is a type of skin reaction that occurs when citrus fruits on your skin are exposed to sunlight. It can cause swelling, redness, and blister-like patches on your skin.Leukoderma.Also known asvitiligo, this skin condition can cause large white spots to develop on the skin. Using lemon on the skin may increase the risk of this condition.Sunburn.Using lemon on your skin can increase your risk of sunburn.

If you have sensitive skin, skin care experts recommend not using lemon on your skin, especially on your face.

SqeakyHindge · 17/02/2021 01:41

No no to lemon!

And leave her alone fgs she 11 with sensitive skin! Crikey the lemon I’m surprised her face isn’t sore of flared up.

Mostlylurkingiam · 17/02/2021 04:26

Lemon on facial skin? Yikes! Homemade and/or Natural is not always better, get her a nice mild cleanser especially if it makes her cry!! For goodness sake.

swinglowsweetchariot12 · 17/02/2021 07:03

I agree with a pp, go on Lush website and buy something there with her suitable for her. It's natural but trendy looking for her and you talk about the environment and what each product does for the skin and make her feel involved instead of imposing something on her.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 17/02/2021 07:07

Lemon on cracked skin? I don’t think those were fake tears, were they? Aveeno wash/moisturiser is good for dry skin.

MrDarcysMa · 17/02/2021 07:30

Sorry op but you've really missed the mark here. I'd start by looking on the Caroline Hirons website, lots of info on there.

Chocolatecake29 · 17/02/2021 07:36

Have a look at Upcircle. Not cheap but brilliant. I've had a a dreadful time over the last couple of years as everything besides coconut oil and almond oil irritated my skin and caused reactions/redness/itching etc. Since switching to Upcircle, my skin has been so calm and settled. Brilliant stuff.
Also Green People make up.

luxxlisbon · 17/02/2021 07:39

I imagine lemon on irritated, dry and tight skin is actually just painful.
Buy her a sensitive non foaming face wash or cleanser, there are loads.

saffire · 17/02/2021 07:41

Lemon! Bloody hell she's probably crying cause it's hurting her.
