To ask wtf they’ve done to fairy liquid

Original fairy liquid - green bottle, now comes with “improved scent” and within a few days of using it my hands are wrecked!! Cracked, bleeding, drier than a dry thing in dry-land. This is the only thing that has changed. Why do these companies fuck with things that were perfectly useful in the first instance??? Raging.

Strangely I got an Asda shop a few weeks ago and usually use tesco. Same thing, Asda brand hands bleeding and sore. Changed back to tesco, same thing? So I wondered if it is the cold or if they have all changed?

TinyCake · 14/02/2021 21:17

OOOOooooh I wondered why my hands suddenly got so sore! I'm off to check the Fairy.

ZackaryQuack · 14/02/2021 21:18

I've found this too!!! Asked my mum (because mum 😂) and she said they've taken aloe vera out? I thought that was a different fairy altogether?

Do you have an old bottle you could check against?

1Morewineplease · 14/02/2021 21:19

I didn't know that they'd changed it! I've only just bought a new bottle but it isn't the usual green liquid. I'll keep an eye.

Laiste · 14/02/2021 21:20

How come you don't use rubber gloves? Genuine Q.

EspressoExpresso · 14/02/2021 21:20

Ooh I've had the opposite. Usually use fairy, hands been awful lately. Got sainsbos own (winter spice, reduced!) and noticed my hands have totally healed. I wonder if this is why

SoMuchToBits · 14/02/2021 21:21

My hands haven't changed (they get wrecked by washing them all the time at work anyway), but the "improved scent" smells DISGUSTING. I've used Fairy original for the last 37 years, it has always smelled nice, but I will now have to find a different brand.

It now smells really sweet and sickly. Nothing like it did before. Sad

ZackaryQuack · 14/02/2021 21:22

@Laiste

How come you don't use rubber gloves? Genuine Q.
Silly reason, ds likes bubbles so I blow them for him while doing the washing up
TinyCake · 14/02/2021 21:23

Urea cream helped my hands. I dont know if it was the cold or the fairy.

Laiste · 14/02/2021 21:23

ZackaryQuack Ahhhhhh :)

BioBins · 14/02/2021 21:24

I use sainsbury's apple scent washing up liquid, and my hands are fine. thanks fro the heads up, won't be splashing out on Fairy.

DisposableGoon · 14/02/2021 21:24

Well that's answered that question. Stupid arse Fairy!

TinyCake · 14/02/2021 21:24

I tried gloves but the water always gets in

Backtoschool101 · 14/02/2021 21:24

Ahh that explains the eczema on my hands!!

user234987653 · 14/02/2021 21:26

If different brands are behaving the same, it could be that the local water company have switched sources to one that has much harder water. It happens in my area a fair bit. Does make your skin suffer, especially on the hands because hard water makes it very difficult to rinse detergent off and it builds up. It's something to do with hard water not being able to break through the surface tension of the slime layer detergent residue forms. Break the surface tension with a nail brush is my way of dealing with it. I know that sounds like bull but it works for me.

1Morewineplease · 14/02/2021 21:26

Maybe Fairy liquid is reacting with all the anti-bac stuff that we're slathering our hands in?

HighSpecWhistle · 14/02/2021 21:26

Could it be the fact the temperature outside has plummeted?

dementedpixie · 14/02/2021 21:27

I wear gloves

SoMuchToBits · 14/02/2021 21:27

But does no-one else find the "improved scent" is disgustingly sweet and sickly?

TinyCake · 14/02/2021 21:28

I liked the old smell

NoCallerID · 14/02/2021 21:28

They've very recently changed the scent of the original fairy liquid and I find the quality has declined too... can't comment on the skin as I always wear gloves.

GladAllOver · 14/02/2021 21:29

I'll have to ask DH if he has noticed any difference. Wink

DisposableGoon · 14/02/2021 21:29

Gloves make me irrationally angry Confused

Dannydevitoiloveyourart · 14/02/2021 21:29

@HighSpecWhistle

Could it be the fact the temperature outside has plummeted?
I think so too - either that or the hardwater theory upthread. As I have had cracked and dry hands the past couple of weeks but have been using the same fairy liquid bottle for a few months now (I get the massive ones off Amazon).

So nothing’s changed for me product-wise.

Whatwouldscullydo · 14/02/2021 21:31

I noticed while ago its runnier and lot less foamy than it used to be. I'll find out soon when my current bottle of method ( really shit so don't bother ) runs out and I have to use my fairy in the cupboard
