My son has started doing digital art - basically he is taking photos of local landmarks and putting his own spin on them adding different filters. This is only one of the versions he has created. If this was a landmark local to you would you buy a print?

I like it. I would buy it if it were a local landmark or well-known landscape to me. I think it's very good.

freddiesmoustache · 13/02/2021 22:29

@LubaLuca

I don't like it. I think it looks like an illustration from a self-published book for children.
Yes, this.
Beautiful3 · 13/02/2021 22:29

I personally dont like it, sorry.

BiBabbles · 13/02/2021 22:29

Print, no for me, though I could see it for website art.

Somethingkindaoooo · 13/02/2021 22:32

I wouldn't, but I'm pretty skint.

Please tell him to keep it up though- its wonderful thing being creative

IloveZoflora · 13/02/2021 22:32

Yes I would

rawalpindithelabrador · 13/02/2021 22:33

I would not but only because digital art is not my thing.

Turnedouttoes · 13/02/2021 22:33

Not for me but if it was local landmarks my MIL would love something like that

fancyginglass · 13/02/2021 22:35

Thank you so much for your replies, good and bad - it's not for everyone - the prints wouldn't cost a fortune and he isn't talking about making a career out of this - I personally love local history and asked him to do me some prints so he is doing a few more for me - it beats the standard art you buy in the shops I think.

It won't be for everyone, but it doesn't hurt to try, especially if he can find a way to offer them for sale without spending much (if anything) prior to making a sale.

HelloDaisy · 13/02/2021 22:36

I really like it and would buy it.

AllTheWayFromLondonDAMN · 13/02/2021 22:37

Some local urban stuff of my area of London I would definitely buy. I know that there would be a market for gifts of that sort of stuff too.

Acovic · 13/02/2021 22:37

Not my thing. May well sell especially if pitched at tourist or homesick expat market.

However, to reassure you some people do buy art - quite a lot of my friends buy original stuff. My brother and his DP tend to buy a painting (they usually choose a watercolour landscape). I was delighted when I moved to my current flat as I got more wall space so could increase my collection.

Looking around my flat I almost exclusively buy landscapes of places that mean something to me so I"m sure his work will appeal to some.

You need to price it right too.

EmotionallyEncumbered · 13/02/2021 22:37

I think there are so many phone apps that allow people to do this to their own photos in seconds it would be quite a small market, but having said that there are people out there who aren't great at photo composition or modern tech, so you never know! If you've never used these apps, take a look at Prisma.

AgnesNaismith · 13/02/2021 22:39

I wouldn’t, I would like it to be a bit sharper around the edges and to have an element of uniqueness to it. I think he’s talented though and should keep going, Rome wasn’t built in a day!

AngelicPP · 13/02/2021 22:39

My husbands is a lot more abstract than the one posted as you can see!!!

I'd look at turning it into greetings cards. It's not something I'd put on my wall, but I would pay £2/3 for a print on a card - no idea of the production costs involved though.

fancyginglass · 13/02/2021 22:41

AngelicPP it's not a filter. This picture is actually nothing like the original - he has taken different aspects of the town and amalgamated them and then digitally rendered them using special effects. This is wht he is trained in.

DancesWithCatsnDogs · 13/02/2021 22:41

Yes, if it was somewhere local to me. My DP comes from a big city which is famous for it's skyline and I searched high and low for something contemporary. Found this site - www.wayfair.co.uk/
He could be onto something.

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 13/02/2021 22:42

I like them, bit I'd buy that style as more of a greetings card type thing, if he did a packet with a range in I think he could easily sell some.

fancyginglass · 13/02/2021 22:42

AngelicPP my son has loads of art pieces like this on his computer - he just doesn't appreciate how good they are. He has a very good imagination!

OP posts:
CherryBlossomTree7 · 13/02/2021 22:44

No, I wouldn't.

I would be interested in buying artwork (drawn or painted) of local landmarks. This picture isn't very attractive (sorry).

yeOldeTrout · 13/02/2021 22:44

That could make a nice jigsaw puzzle. I always wondered there they got the pictures from for jigsaw puzzles.

fancyginglass · 13/02/2021 22:44

DancesWithCatsnDogs I actually bought a vintage picture of our Town on Amazon a while back - no idea why it was on Amazon - it's a small tourist town - but it takes pride of place in my house - I love it.

I like them OP and I really admire your sons creativity. You're clearly very proud of him and it shines through in your posts. Good on him Smile
