My son has started doing digital art - basically he is taking photos of local landmarks and putting his own spin on them adding different filters. This is only one of the versions he has created. If this was a landmark local to you would you buy a print?

We are doing a detailed print and it will bring out a lot of the finer details - I agree a phone photo is not the best.

I can see his potential but not to my taste...yet.

Moltenpink · 13/02/2021 21:56

I really like it, yes I would & would probably prefer a canvas.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 13/02/2021 21:57

I really like them. They'd make very good greetings cards.

hellolittlebaby · 13/02/2021 21:57

It's quite blurry.

What is the original artwork he's modified this from? You can't just sell a remix of an original artwork, I believe there'd be copyright issues. Especially if it's somebody else's photo or painting with some filters applied over the top.

fancyginglass · 13/02/2021 21:57

Can I ask what would be to someone's taste? He has done original digital art pieces - to be fair, now many of us own an original art painting - I have one which was given to my husband to be honest although it's worth £300 I wouldn't have given £5 for it.

Art is different for everybody. There will be some that will buy it. Some will not and prefer more traditional art. My husband does a kind of photo manipulation art style also but not just with a filter he will actually add effects with his fingers iyswim? I don't know how else to explain it really because he doesn't just stick a filter on it and call it done l, tbh a lot of his stuff actually looks a lot like traditional art like paintings when he's finished with it! I do think there's a market but that as with anything it's hard to get started. I do drawing and painting and pyrography things like that and would love to sell but don't think my things would sell. Doesn't mean that this won't sell tho, just get an Etsy selling account and put it up for a fair price and see what happens! Good luck 🤞

LampsOn · 13/02/2021 21:57

It's not my cup of tea. Sorry. I bet he could sell some locally though.

fancyginglass · 13/02/2021 21:59

hellolittlebaby he took the photo himself and actually doesn't represent exactly what is there so it is definitely original and all his own work.

No I don’t think I’ve caught on with digital art either. Surely anyone can change a photo with a filter

Much prefer original paintings/drawings

Sadly wouldn’t pay good money for it.

doctorhamster · 13/02/2021 21:59

Not personally but I recon there is a market for it

ItsAllBlahBlahBlah · 13/02/2021 22:00

It's not for me OP, I am not keen on the look of digital art, it just looks too, well, computerised!!

FlumpetCrumpet · 13/02/2021 22:01

They're not to my taste. I think they look like an 80s cartoon, they are giving me count duckula vibes.

TitusPullo · 13/02/2021 22:01

Sorry but no. I would probably be more interested in the original photo as the underlying image looks nice. I do own original art as it goes, and I understand art not being valued as it should but I don’t think those pictures have enough finesse. It may be different in person however.

Asdf12345 · 13/02/2021 22:02

Not my bag at all but the best of luck to him.

OhioOhioOhio · 13/02/2021 22:03

I like it but more as a card of calendar than something for my wall.

occa · 13/02/2021 22:04

No, sorry. Not my type of thing.

wirldsgonemad · 13/02/2021 22:04

Yes!

fancyginglass · 13/02/2021 22:04

We will see how the print comes out - we are only tinkering at the moment - he didn't spend a lot of time on it but he is trained in 3d modelling and animation and I can see talent there - I personally love the prints and asked him to do it. He is going to do more for me as I love local landmarks and the fact that no one else has this artwork. Personally I have paid good money for worse (Stephen Brown comes to mind - what was i thinking)!

maddening · 13/02/2021 22:04

I possibly would yes, and I am sure that he can continue to develop his style.

MysteriousMonkey · 13/02/2021 22:05

I like it, it reminds me of the retro travel posters I have up on my walls.

LubaLuca · 13/02/2021 22:05

I don't like it. I think it looks like an illustration from a self-published book for children.

passtheorange · 13/02/2021 22:05

I like them a lot. Very creative. I can imagine it would be something that my dd would have liked as a teen, and had on her bedroom wall.

DumplingsAndStew · 13/02/2021 22:07

Sorry can you be more clear - has he painted it digitally, or has he taken a photo and manipulated it using filters?

PicaK · 13/02/2021 22:08

I really like Brumhaus - and that's very similar in concept if not design.
I can't afford Brumhaus tho!
Lots of colour choices is a good thing.
He'd be wise to keep an eye on what interior design colours are popular at the moment for customers in the price range he's targeting.
