My son has started doing digital art - basically he is taking photos of local landmarks and putting his own spin on them adding different filters. This is only one of the versions he has created. If this was a landmark local to you would you buy a print?

Perhaps in a postcard or bookmark medium but not as wall art.

AngelicPP · 13/02/2021 22:46

@fancyginglass

AngelicPP it's not a filter. This picture is actually nothing like the original - he has taken different aspects of the town and amalgamated them and then digitally rendered them using special effects. This is wht he is trained in.

Sorry I didn't mean that your sons was just a filter..just wasn't sure how to explain what my husband does with his.

I really like this style - reminds me of classic poster art of the 30's/40's. I definitely think there would be interest for local landmarks.

WutheredOut · 13/02/2021 22:47

Seriously get him to look into creating greetings cards rather than larger prints and then supplying local farm shops, card shops, gift shops, cafes.
I own a shop and I only sell local artists cards - we sell crazy amounts of cards because they are unique to our area
I buy cards rather than larger pieces of art as I know over a year I can sell probably 250 cards per artist....or maybe just one print if we are lucky!
Stick to similar colour palette and similar style (and always the same size card!)
Digital art is becoming very popular!

Griefmonster · 13/02/2021 22:49

OP why jump straight to selling? Why not let him enjoy the process, create an insta account and just start putting stuff out there. Using hashtags and tagging If he wants to get more attention and guage a market.

CherryPieface · 13/02/2021 22:49

The original photo would be much nicer I think.

Dopo · 13/02/2021 22:49

Is he very young?
If he's 12 I'm impressed. If he's 25 less so.
But art is subjective

ElephantsNest · 13/02/2021 22:50

I like it and would buy as greetings cards if it was a landmark local to me.

Dinosauraddict · 13/02/2021 22:50

@JulietMadeChutney can you link to your Etsy please? A charcoal original on a similar style to the hare I would definitely buy!

StormzyInaDCup · 13/02/2021 22:52

I honestly think that's beautiful. I'd buy one.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 13/02/2021 22:52

Some people on here are so rude or dismissive.
I like it and think he is talented. Local landmarks/pictures could sell imo.
Get them out there and see what happens!

Yeah. I think that's the best way. He will get some following and enjoy it
fancyginglass · 13/02/2021 22:52

CherryPieface not really a viable commercial option - this has been done to death in the town. The only reason he did this was because I asked him to - this is the kind of thing I love. Actually one of his art pictures from Secondary 1 is in the local doctor's surgery - used to visit it all the time - when you could still go to the doctor's!!

Not for me as it seems like an in between piece, neither one thing or another and a bit to Athena 1980s

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 13/02/2021 22:53

Too

MustardMitt · 13/02/2021 22:54

I wouldn’t not buy a piece of digital art, but I don’t like the style of those at all so I wouldn’t buy them. They’re a bit like those unicorn and fantasy pics.

bloodyhairy · 13/02/2021 22:54

While it's not my cup of tea (the colours are maybe a bit dated or something, I don't know), I recognise that it's pretty cool. Hope it all works out for your son.

fancyginglass · 13/02/2021 22:54

Dinosauraddict thank you so much - he does have an Etsy page hasn't got very far. Thank you others for the encouragement and words of advice.

I buy a lot of original art and I like it. He should do a few and see if they sell. I like the idea of doing them in trios each with a connecting theme.
Get a few done, get them framed (you don't have to spend a lot, try eazyframe) and put them online.
Look at art finder.com a platform for artists.

Lifeohlife88 · 13/02/2021 22:55

I think it's lovely

Elphame · 13/02/2021 22:57

Not my taste either. All the art on my walls is original but oils, acrylics and watercolour. Digital art doesn’t really do it for me

Viviennemary · 13/02/2021 22:58

I think it's quite nice. And agree there could be a market for coasters and greeting cards.

Sheleg · 13/02/2021 22:58

Yes! I really like it.

fancyginglass · 13/02/2021 22:58

Elphame not many of us could afford that.

Not personally, but your son has definitely got talent. There seems to be a real market for this on Etsy.
