"Can you look them in the eye and tell them you are doing everything to stop the spread of covid".

Emotional manipulation at its best.

OP posts:
SomewhereUpMyArse · 12/02/2021 22:13

Yanbu it's annoying.

If you they're going to show it at all they should just beam it at the eyeballs of every front bench politician and health care commissioner. Because they're the ones who have got us into this mess. Over a hundred thousand dead and a generation of traumatised HCPs. They should be fucking ashamed of themselves, not seeking to shame the population that they've visited this enormous almighty fuckup upon.

SomewhereUpMyArse · 12/02/2021 22:14

Sorry that should read if they're

Jumpjumpjumper · 12/02/2021 22:15

Those adverts can piss right off. Every time a new regulation comes out, I say "give it a few days, we'll see which government member breaks the rule."

And sure as shit, they do.

The government have massively fucked up the whole handling of this. So they can get lost with their emotional blackmail propaganda.

Snowsnowglorioussnow · 12/02/2021 22:15

Going against the grain, I actually think its pretty weak?

People who don't look in distress with a mask on.. I think media has been so weak since this started.

The most effective ad I saw, only came on a few times.. It showed people breathing out green air.. And how it hung in the air ant then very weakly said.. Open a window..

I would love to direct a proper covid advert... And I'm afraid I would have more upsetting hard hitting clips of suffering.

I sat in a restaurant last summer, mild day and I realised it was getting hot and stuffy, I asked for a window to be opened, momentarily... And.. The lady next to me looked utterly horrified and immediately threw a shawl around her..

People like that and the people running the place are in desperate need of the basics being taught to them.

MinesAPintOfTea · 12/02/2021 22:19

There are a lot of us with increasingly fragile mental health who are doing all the right things. I avoid media with adverts because those are spiking my anxiety.

Yes, I am very sympathetic to medical staff who are dealing with it day in, day out, but we know there is likely to be a mental illness crisis. How the government talks to people is part of that.

Duggeehugs82 · 12/02/2021 22:24

If u was doing everything u could to prevent spread ie not breaking rules u wouldn't feel guilt because there is none to feel. That includes having to go out to work because ur job just isn't able to do at home ie trade person or ur employer hasnt made it possible,

Whatisapension · 12/02/2021 22:24

@PicsInRed

Look at this nonsense, the state of it.
I remember when buying takeaway coffees was going to save the economy a few months ago.

Reminds me of being at war with Eastaisa/Euraisa

rawalpindithelabrador · 12/02/2021 22:28

It's like 'I'm so miserable and exhausted that everyone else should be forced to be so, too!' not realising that some of them already fucking are and don't need the government to throw it in their faces every 10 fucking minutes.

SomewhereUpMyArse · 12/02/2021 22:33

@Duggeehugs82 I don't feel even remotely guilty. I'm sticking to the rules and more.

I am however furious that a government that has fucked up so badly as to have one of the worst death rates in the world while simultaneously screwing the economy to kingdom come is seeking to put the blame for this on the population it's crapped on.

JaceLancs · 12/02/2021 22:34

I could work from home but if I did many more people would go hungry - be lonely - struggle financially - go without support and help - experience deterioration in their mental and physical health - look into their eyes and tell them I abandoned them to work from home

Sushirolls · 12/02/2021 22:35

It's bloody irritating and I either mute it or turn the channel over.

rawalpindithelabrador · 12/02/2021 22:36

I don't feel guilty, either.

BRAVO!

DreamyDreamer333 · 12/02/2021 22:41

I agree with you OP I turn over every time I see it. Don't think anything will beat this one from the Scottish government though - putting fear into young people about killing their grandparents.

AfternoonToffee · 12/02/2021 22:44

@ViciousJackdaw

Perhaps I'm just more ancient than everyone else but if you think these ads are bad, you should have seen the AIDS ads back in the 80s. Then there were the Public Information films, each one designed to scare the living daylights out of you.
We have a DVD of those (Charlie Says) DH shown some to the DC that he had burnt on his memory and they were totally unfazed, he was like " but the boy with the kite, the dark waters" they weren't bothered.
bumblenbean · 12/02/2021 22:45

@MinesAPintOfTea I know what you mean - the ads (along with the constant headlines but at least I can choose not to look at news channels!) really exacerbate my anxiety, and are also quite galling considering I’m following the rules (and in fact probably being way OTT!)

@rawalpindithelabrador I’m so sorry you lost your child. I hope you’re coping as ok as can be expected Flowers

AfternoonToffee · 12/02/2021 22:49

@rawalpindithelabrador I am sorry that you sharing about your child got the response it did. It was unkind and unnecessary. I hope these adverts are not too distressing for you and your family. I hope you are ok and have support around you. Flowers

BaskingMad · 12/02/2021 23:06

Totally. There’s another one (or maybe the same one i cannot remember) that says- ‘break the rules, people will die’ to which each and every time i mutter under my breath ‘fuck off’. They can shove that feeling of guilt right up their holes.

MichelleScarn · 12/02/2021 23:27

basking is that the "don't go outside people WILL die"?

justanothermagicnamechange · 12/02/2021 23:27

@TwelvePaws That is a disgusting response to someone saying they have lost their child and father. Absolutely vile.

@rawalpindithelabrador I'm so sorry for what you've been through.

justanothermagicnamechange · 12/02/2021 23:33

Eurgh at the smug posters bragging about how wonderfully selfless their teenagers are.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 12/02/2021 23:37

Yes, I can look them in the eye. I'm following the rules. Which is why I'm at home, watching telly, and watching these terrible, repetitive, manipulative ads.

Please change them - the people sticking to the rules are so bored of the same ad every ad break.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 12/02/2021 23:38

Maybe if they tried to stop spread in hospitals I would be slightly more likely to watch

RedcurrantPuff · 12/02/2021 23:38

My main thought is how clumpy the last woman’s mascara is

Tiktokersmiracle · 12/02/2021 23:41

I wonder if Boris, Hancock and Whitty can look them in they eye since they negligently missed opportunities to swerve or limit the virus and its impact?
It's not on at all.
