Yes, shoot me down - ready to be flamed. Hard hat on!

But read first...

What do you think? I'm not sure this would actually happen but what if AIBU was removed? People would have to post on appropriate topics but each thread title should have ADVICE or SUPPORT or DISCUSSION or OPINIONS or even AIBU.

That way people (including me) can still get their 'aibu/drama/viper fix' on different topics but only on threads that have discussion, opinions and aibu.

It just seems everyone is posting different topics on aibu so the point of having different topics/boards is lost and those of us who've hidden some topics still see them all over 'Active Threads' because of this.

If you want AIBU removed because it's full of topics you don't like, you've lost nothing by clicking "hide board". What, from your point of view, would be different about it not existing? Ironically, shouldn't this be in site stuff?

Happycat1212 · 12/02/2021 12:34

People post here because other places are so quiet, I posted on one board and got 1 response, I posted somewhere else and got much more, it’s not hard to understand why people post for traffic

Happycat1212 · 12/02/2021 12:35

It can be horrible writing out a post and getting zero comments

Hardhatsafelyon · 12/02/2021 12:36

No because I'm asking MNers what they think, not MNHQ.

I don't want to hide aibu because there are other threads I want to see on it. I hide threads all the time and have hidden topics.

It can exist on individual boards.

OP posts:
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 12/02/2021 12:37

You weren't here before AIBU?

It wasn't any better without it.

Hardhatsafelyon · 12/02/2021 12:37

That's the point. I understand why people post for traffic so having aibu on different boards means it could balance things out.

What can exist on other boards?

If you mean voting? I'm not sure what's involved technically?

Rivergreen · 12/02/2021 12:40

I do kind of get what you mean. Sometimes AIBU seems to eat up the rest of the discussion boards... Would those boards be more popular if AIBU didn't exist?

Only problem is, on the other boards you are posting to a more self-selecting audience, who already have an interest (and sometimes knowledge) on the topic, so you don't necessarily get the range of views. Great if it's a question about plumbing, not always as great if you are wanting a wide range of emotional or life experiences to a situation.

Hardhatsafelyon · 12/02/2021 12:41

I mean the concept of aibu with voting, yes. So each board also has the ability to use voting and threads are still posted in relevant topics if they want to know if they're BU or not.

OP posts:
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 12/02/2021 12:42

@Hardhatsafelyon

I don't really remember because I just use the active page & don't pay much attention to which section it's in. BUT there were always threads complaining things weren't in the correct topic!! WWYD was more popular

clockstopper · 12/02/2021 12:43

I think it'd be a good idea, people post everything on AIBU and then the other threads don't get replies. It's almost as if some posters only want to reply if they have the chance to nitpick or put the boot in.

ButtWormHole · 12/02/2021 12:43

But it’s my entertainment!

Hardhatsafelyon · 12/02/2021 12:45

@Rivergreen I see what you mean and as I wrote, I'm not even sure if this would work. It's just a thought but I know it will be too much of a faff for MNHQ to implement.

It can just be really annoying to keep seeing threads on topics you've hidden. What's the point of hiding a whole topic then? Perhaps MNHQ can make hiding individual threads much easier since that's all that's left to do.

OP posts:
clockstopper · 12/02/2021 12:47

Maybe @MNHQ could do something when a thread is started so the OP has to pick Support/Discussion/Opinions/AIBU and then it's put automatically at the start of the subject and each thread has a sentence automatically appended at the end of the OP stating the purpose of a thread.

Hardhatsafelyon · 12/02/2021 12:48

Grin Mine too. That's why I want it cleaned up. These threads I'm not interested in get in my way. Selfish of me, perhaps.

Yes! I was going to write this in my OP but thought it would be a lot to ask of MNHQ. Decided people could write that in their thread title instead.

grannyinapram · 12/02/2021 12:52

Chat would become the new AIBU

3JsMa · 12/02/2021 12:54

If you feel so strongly about protecting precious AIBU space what do you suggest? What topics should be banned to keep it 'clean'?

Hardhatsafelyon · 12/02/2021 12:54

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants Think MNHQ was more serious about moving threads to the appropriate topics then. You only had to mention it or report the thread for it to be moved.

OP posts:
ImaHogg · 12/02/2021 12:55

I would like to see a ‘What would you do?’ section. Sometimes people just want some gentle advice and tend to put on AIBU for traffic and then end up getting shot in flames.

notprofessionallyoffended · 12/02/2021 12:58

MN have too many boards. So most people just flock to AIBU.

If they deleted AIBU and removed 90% of the existing boards, then people might have reasonable conversations on specific topics, yet. But removing AIBU and nothing else is not the answer. Another board would just become the new unofficial vipers' nest.

Hardhatsafelyon · 12/02/2021 13:02

I agree, a lot of the existing boards are unnecessary.

Don’t remove that guilty pleasure that is a bun fight on AIBU

Hardhatsafelyon · 12/02/2021 13:03

Grin You'll still have bunfights (I love them too), just spread out in different topics so you can have a buffet of bunfight topics to choose from.
