...Full disclosure I am grumpy (PMT) and in lockdown alone so daytime TV is my only entertainment so this might sound mean as I'm sure he's a lovely man, but AIBU to think he's too dull to be paired with the amazing Alison Hammond and it doesn't work? She needs someone to bounce off. Its like they went with someone super safe to balance out giving Alison the job as she's so loud and a bit of a loose cannon (which I love) but there's a disconnect/lack of chemistry between the two. I find it quite awkward to watch them.

Such things are bugging me more than usual as I am immensely bored in lockdown before anyone points out there are worse things to worry about (I am aware!)

I agree. I loathe the man.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 12/02/2021 14:23

@the80sweregreat

Sad to hear that Dermot isn't nice as I've always liked him. Celebs always disappoint me!
He is nice. I’ve worked with him many many times and he’s always been unfailingly lovely to everyone.
Lightningrain · 12/02/2021 14:30

I miss Eamonn and Ruth too.

I find Alison too loud and I’ve always thought there was something a bit false about Dermot. It used to annoy me when he would shout towards the end of a sentence for dramatic effect and that spin he did when he walked on stage... I’m sure he’s a nice enough bloke but he hasn’t got the charisma in my opinion. There’s nothing that stands out about him to make him seem likeable or relatable.

MissyB1 · 12/02/2021 14:36

Richard and Judy had both been journalists that was the difference. It was a different show back then. I also had a lot of respect for Fern.
Can just about tolerate Ruth and Eamon but I’ve got no time whatsoever for any of the others.

I8toys · 12/02/2021 14:39

I noticed this morning there is a lot of dead air - no banter - it is quite awkward at times.

TopTabby · 12/02/2021 14:42

I actually really like them together! Alison is loud & really funny, Dermot is a bit more down to earth. Only watch on Fridays, can't be doing with Phil & Holly & their 'hilarious' private jokes. I do like Eamon & Ruth though.

stackemhigh · 12/02/2021 14:48

I ca't stand Dermot, from his T4 days. Thankfully I don't watch X-Factor so didn't have to watch him.

Rillington · 12/02/2021 14:49

I love Alison but the partnership with Dermot is awful. They don't gel together.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 12/02/2021 14:51

@snowydaysandholidays that’s a shame. He’s always been one of the nicest tv personalities I’ve encountered and has the same rep amongst my peers.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 12/02/2021 15:28

I can’t abide Phillip & Holly , all that incessant giggling. Alison is far too over the top for me . Dermot always seems like a nice man . But to be honest I don’t have the tv on during the day , prefer to play music as I don’t want my toddlers getting into Peppa Pig et al yet .

rc22 · 12/02/2021 15:50

I'm with @Rafflesway. I defected to Jeremy Vine and Storm on Channel 5 a while ago.

Embroideredstars · 12/02/2021 16:05

Good point about Hollies birthday, I caught a bit as I was off sick.

Do love Allison though, she seems a lovely person. Reminds me of one of my old friends both brummies! Used to like Dermot years agonbut I think he's the wrong personality for this type of show he gives the o.pression of being "too cool for school" with it all, particularly with the type articles this show has on.

Rafflesway · 12/02/2021 16:10

Yep, totally agree about Hollie's birthday! (Only caught a few minutes of it thank God.)

And that cringeworthy dance they insist on doing whilst waiting for someone to answer the phone when doing the "Spin to win" competition. 🙄

rc22 obviously you are a Mnetter of good taste! 😁 Seriously though, I wish I had defected years ago. Love some of the meaty topics they cover on Channel 5. No going back now!

Aquagirl19 · 12/02/2021 16:11

I agree, Dermot and Alison are not a great match. I love Alison but find Dermot a little bit too serious and notice that he never seems to want to go off script even when something funny happens. A little bit too professional and he cuts Alison off sometimes.

saffire · 12/02/2021 16:14

Dermot is awful! His radio2 show was dull and dreary. He is so boring.

ChickenNugget86 · 12/02/2021 16:21

I've enjoyed watching this morning during lockdown and I'm on mat leave so it's been a bit of company for me! Normally wouldn't be able to watch it. I do enjoy Holly and Phil although I find Phil very rude at times when he cuts people off. I agree with the PP, Holly's birthday celebrations were a bit of a kick in the teeth, so many of us have missed out on birthdays.
I liked Eamon and Ruth so I'm glad they are back next week for the half term.
As for Alison I do enjoy her in small doses and was pleased she was getting a chance to host the show. I think she'd work better with some one else though, thought her and Gok would be good together. I remember Dermot being cool when he did big brother but these days I find him quite boring. He annoys me more than Phil and I don't think he works well with Alison. Also his tight grey trousers and turtle neck top annoy me so much, not sure why!! I'm not a fan when he does x factor either. On Fridays I record it and spin most of it on. I'll miss watching it when I return to work.

Slub · 12/02/2021 18:09

I record This Morning every day and can watch the 2 hours 30 mins in about 40 mins by fast forwarding through the dross which is the majority of the program
Would love Ruth and Eeman to take over completely and think it's outrageous that they have been replaced on Friday by two such crap presenters who can't even read the fucking autocue right Angry

CSIblonde · 12/02/2021 18:19

Dermot looks bored to me. Alison carries him personality wise. She'd be fine on her own, don't know why it has to be a couple. She's interviewed notoriously grumpy Hollywood stars alone & in pairs & managed to charm the pants of them & make it uproariously funny & interesting, not the usual tell us about your film yawn. Feeding Hugh Jackman chocolates & flirting madly was my favourite .

Slub · 12/02/2021 18:22

Actually I quite like Alison in smaller doses but Dermot contains more wood than my clothes prop. A better pairing with Alison would be Josie Gibson or Rochelle Humes.

augustusglupe · 12/02/2021 18:31

I don't like either of them. I miss Ruth & Eamonn

HeyDW96 · 12/02/2021 19:57

As a side note, I know someone who met Alison and said she was an incredibly rude and arrogant woman. Which makes me dislike her even more. Bring back Eamonn, such a fab, dry sense of humour. The facial expressions when he knew someone was talking utter bollocks were amazing, he actually called people out on their bullshit

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/02/2021 20:00

8ve decided that I have a phobia of the Speakmans...

SeasonFinale · 12/02/2021 20:02

I like Dermot.

Alison is too over the top.

I liked it bettwe when it was Dermot and Rochelle for a few weeks.

Liked Ruth but not Eamon.

Phil and Hollie are bearable ( I tend to have it on as background noise).

I preferred it when it was Phil and Fern.

The thing is they are never going to please everyone all of the time.

Mary46 · 12/02/2021 20:07

I like Rochelle. Found Alison giggly and loud when I tuned in few weeks ago. I find E and Ruth alot better on the Fridays and miss them

Quirrelsotherface · 12/02/2021 20:27

I really dislike Dermot O'Leary, he's one of those people who gets job after job after job and I just think am I missing something here? I can't put my finger on why but I feel there's something very false about him, like we're seeing this mask persona and it's a very dull one at that. I met him in RL for work once and had exactly the same feeling. he's missing a spark / star quality imo
