To think that all films should be 90 mins tops?

DH and I skipping around Netflix and Amazon for something to watch tonight with a takeaway (wedding anniversary). For info, we have one DS and both work full time so pretty knackered come 8pm.

He suggests a few, one sounds good but 2 hours 47 minutes!!! No way I'm making it to the end.

We finally settled on one which is 1 hour 34 mins. That means with a few wee breaks, we'll be done by 10pm. Perfect.

AIBU to think anything longer than 90 mins is unnecessary??

(This is lighthearted btw, and just the ramblings of a tired mum!)

Most films are too long.

@felulageller

I know this is light-hearted but multiple toilet trips in 90 minutes warrants a trip to the gp
Grin Funnily enough I thought the same. Although our downstairs loo is positioned that you can watch TV still whilst on it. Blush

You are all uncultured heathens the lot of you demanding short films. If a film is good, it will capture your imagination so you are no longer aware of the passage of time. You're all just watching awful romantic comedies, aren't you?!

TableNiner · 10/02/2021 23:20

This has been my rule for years. When I’m watching longer films I’m always shouting at the TV about why it’s taking so long to set the scene/there’s an endless driving scene/people are staring at each for literally minutes before managing to speak. I recognise sometimes it’s about the mood but it’s often very indulgent.

Watching The Life And Death of Colonel Blimp (163 mins) for a uni film course ruined me forever.

Youcunnyfunt · 10/02/2021 23:30

Yes

greenemerald · 10/02/2021 23:33

Before having a baby I didn't mind the length of films but now, totally agree!! We've decided to just watch series so a 45 min ep which we'll plan in a few times a week when baby sleeps :)

Surely they are only too long for people with short attention spans Grin
duckalemon · 11/02/2021 07:08

Yes, I agree.

I think 90 mins would be too short for an adult film. I mean Avengers Endgame was long but it went so quickly as it was awesome! Depends on the film. If the avengers series were short films I'd have been disappointed Grin Titanic was a good film but could have been cut down a bit IMO. Reading the replies I'm thinking I should watch Gone with the wind but prepare for a toilet break!

LadyGAgain · 11/02/2021 23:26

Agreed OP.
But have you seen Gone with the Wind? That's 4 hours they are actually worth it.

DdraigGoch · 11/02/2021 23:36

I must admit, I've never had the stamina to finish Laurence of Arabia (nearly four bloody hours long!)

LouNatics · 11/02/2021 23:45

With older DC who don’t go to bed until 9-10.30pm as well as younger DC who get up in the night, and a full time job, it’s not very easy to find time to watch ‘grown up’ films. I don’t get to bed until about 1.30am most nights as it is. The older ones can join me for a film but can’t watch lots of good stuff I’d like to see.
