To ask where you clothes shop?

I feel like I've hit a wall, fashion-wise.

I turned 30 at the beginning of January. A couple of paydays later, I'd like to treat myself to some new clothes.

I used to shop at River Island and Topshop. But now they seem too young, or cheap-looking (the styling has really gone downhill recently, unless I am massively out of touch!) But then some other shops seem a bit too frumpy and mature.

Been browsing online and cannot seem to find any clothing websites that fit my taste. I rarely clothe shop for myself, just pick things up as and when I'm out round town shopping (pre-lockdown era!).

AIBU to ask where you shop and if you could recommend any decent stores to me? I browsed the Joules website the other day and quite liked it, so something similar to that maybe.

I'm 35.. I shop mostly at ASOS.. H&M too but to be honest I've recently bought some stuff from small independent business's on Instagram, I find they're more unique that way!

I'm a young 35 though with a very active toddler so I'm mostly in mom jeans, sweaters & docs at the moment if we go out Grin

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 08/02/2021 22:19

H&M is a good shout, thanks. I am a bit weird and don't particularly enjoy clothes shopping so I don't pay attention to shops I go in. So I'm trying to look online for clothes and my mind is blank when it comes to shop names!

Also as a side note I often go on Pinterest, as my favourite shoes are docs at the moment I'll search dr martens outfits! If I'm stuck for what to wear it's great for ideas 💡

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 08/02/2021 22:19

Charity shops, Asda and Primark. I've barely bought anything this year. WFH leggings and pjs every day. Did wear a frock on my birthday last weekend.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 08/02/2021 22:20

Oh and Lidl and Aldi! Lidl do lovely skinny jeans!

MissyB1 · 08/02/2021 22:22

I’m older than you (50s) but I struggle as well. I get bits from fatface/ H&M/ M&S/Sainsbury’s/ crew clothing.

IamBitzyVonMuffling · 08/02/2021 22:22

Asos (for more on trend stuff), & Other Stories, (classics esp blouses and knitwear) Seasalt (I'd pur this in the Joules category) H&M, Hush (bit more expensive but lovely quality), White Stuff (althhough some of it can be a bit on the mumsy side).

sweetheartyparty · 08/02/2021 22:23

I like Hush. Its pretty pricey but they have lots of nice, casual pieces

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 08/02/2021 22:24

I just feel as though I am too young and chubby for the clothes that are now sold in River Island and Topshop. But then too young for brands such as Mint Velvet. Or AIBU for thinking like that? Just feel a bit stuck in a rut I guess.

I buy my jeans from Levi's because they're always the size they say they will be. I can't honestly remember the last time I brought a top that wasn't for breastfeeding or running so IDK where to buy those anymore but I did get a nice jumper from Jack Wills in November. I just turned 34.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 08/02/2021 22:25

Oops, I meant too old for Topshop.

BeastOfBODMAS · 08/02/2021 22:25

I have bought some nice cardigans and T-shirts from H&M online recently.
It has been a revelation to me as I’ve always walked into their stores, got an immediate headache from the thumping loud music, and walked straight back out thinking “I’m too old for this shit”
I’m 29 Grin

lg81 · 08/02/2021 22:30

All Saints
Hush
Reiss
Warehouse
oasis
H&M

TwoZeroTwoZero · 08/02/2021 22:31

I'm 41 and shop at Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Amazon.

Quincejam · 08/02/2021 22:31

Next? Although I'm a bit older than you.

ThisBear · 08/02/2021 22:32

Similar issue for me with River Island and Topshop in recent years. New Look and H&M are quite reliable for me, occasionally Tesco or Sainsbury's, and loved Oasis and Warehouse but not sure what's happening with them currently (I used to go to their Debenhams concessions).

Strugglingtodomybest · 08/02/2021 22:34

H&M, Seasalt, Fatface, Charity shops mainly.

Costalatte · 08/02/2021 22:35

River island for jeans and vest tops, Fat face, Superdry and Jack Wills. I’ll be 34 next month.

ThatchersCold · 08/02/2021 22:35

Oasis and Warehouse are good ‘in yer thirties’ brands.

I like Hush too but it’s expensive and some of their clothes are a bit frumpy.

Boden has some really nice stuff at the moment, if you like Joules that’s worth a look.

Sammiesnake · 08/02/2021 22:37

I’m 31 and I shop at GAP/ Benetton (for daytime with kids), French Connection / Monsoon (seeing my friends/ out and about) and I get work stuff from M&S. Reiss occasionally for nice dresses (weddings etc).

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 08/02/2021 22:37

@FrostyChocolateMilkshake

Oops, I meant too old for Topshop.
It's part of Asos anyway!

No one is ever too old for anything, just select the right bits.

What are you looking for?
Loungewear, Casual, Smart casual, smart?
What's your size? Petite, tall, 8-10, more curvy, very curvy?

You could use an online stylist (much cheaper and super helpful)

Cotswoldmama · 08/02/2021 22:38

H&M, newlyweds ok, Zara, ASOS, nobody's child, miss selfridge I'm nearly 37

LeeLou456 · 08/02/2021 22:38

Mango, (Mango Outlet too), Zara, Sainsbury's, Asda, H&M, Next, ASOS, Fatface

Cotswoldmama · 08/02/2021 22:38

BigusBumus · 08/02/2021 22:38

I'm 49 and my jeans are all from Next (because the fit me). I've got A LOT of stuff from Saint + Sofia as I like that Rock chick kind of look. Other stuff is from Mint Velvet and Lipsy mainly. Also Sainsbury's for basics like long sleeve white Ts.
