To ask where you clothes shop?

I feel like I've hit a wall, fashion-wise.

I turned 30 at the beginning of January. A couple of paydays later, I'd like to treat myself to some new clothes.

I used to shop at River Island and Topshop. But now they seem too young, or cheap-looking (the styling has really gone downhill recently, unless I am massively out of touch!) But then some other shops seem a bit too frumpy and mature.

Been browsing online and cannot seem to find any clothing websites that fit my taste. I rarely clothe shop for myself, just pick things up as and when I'm out round town shopping (pre-lockdown era!).

AIBU to ask where you shop and if you could recommend any decent stores to me? I browsed the Joules website the other day and quite liked it, so something similar to that maybe.

Sainsburys all the way. Good quality and price.

justasmalltownmum · 08/02/2021 22:41

Zara

milienhaus · 08/02/2021 22:42

I liked Oasis and Warehouse the best Sad

Otherwise & Other Stories, Uniqlo, Finery (online), Whistles, Mint Velvet - I’m 29 and don’t think these are too old!

Linguaphile · 08/02/2021 22:42

COS and Massimo Dutti. Stylish but good quality and more grown up.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 08/02/2021 22:44

I shop everywhere and cheap

Primark, New Look, H&M, Fat Face, M&S, Zara, & Other stories
Next and Asos are great for multi brands
Sugarhill, SilkFred

sometimes I browse depop to come up with ideas of brands I didn't know

CandyflossKid · 08/02/2021 22:45

At the moment, Tesco - when I go and do the food shopping

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 08/02/2021 22:46

Sainsburys, tesco, Asda also have great stuff.
You just need to keep an eye on bits

SonjaMorgan · 08/02/2021 22:47

Max mara, toast, all saints, hush, lk Bennett, jigsaw, hobbs, all are good quality and have lasted me well. I mainly shop at charity shops but do buy very occasionally from those above or buy second hand off eBay. I have some lovely vintage pieces too.

NoProblem123 · 08/02/2021 22:54

Reiss but only on the sale
French connection especially their jeans
Super dry for casual
Ted baker for work

Although I spend most of my time in Boux Avenue loungewear Grin

KizzyKat91 · 08/02/2021 22:58

I also turned 30 at the start of January and I’m having exactly the same issue :(

I used to shop mainly in Oasis & Warehouse but the quality and styling has gone massively downhill since they were sold to Boohoo.
Also River island has gone completely off the rails and I only buy jeans from there now.

Zara and mango clothing rarely fits me - definitely not designed for hourglass body shapes! And I never understand the H&M and ASOS own brand suggestions. The sizing is weird and inconsistent and most of the clothing seems poor quality - I always end up returning their stuff.

I’ve had some luck with new look but it’s very hit and miss quality wise. Also got a few gems from Wallis but most of their stuff is frumpy.

There just doesn’t seem to be any fashionable, mid price range, decent quality, high street brands anymore. It’s so frustrating!

RosesAndHellebores · 08/02/2021 22:59

Seasalt, Boden, Cos, Toast, Hush but am old and struggling a bit.

MerryDecembermas · 08/02/2021 22:59

Pinterest for ideas and then scouring ebay for nearly new.

Yellowfiledredfilled · 08/02/2021 23:00

Cos, Toast, Arket, Me&Em, Uniqlo and H&M

Memo7 · 08/02/2021 23:19

I’m almost 30 and I like:
Uniqlo (for basics)
Some bits from H&M - usually summery items
Knitwear from toast
Levi’s jeans always
Monki on occasion
Quite like olive clothing (mainly knitwear again)
Live in doc martens, salt water sandals in the summer and vans or converse.

Londonmummy66 · 08/02/2021 23:26

Uniqlo - a combination of timeless and more edgy and I have found that their clothes last better than most of the other stores at that price point. However their delivery and customer service is dire.

Gobbeldegook · 08/02/2021 23:57

I like new look, superdry and eBay for bargains

Gobbeldegook · 08/02/2021 23:58

I'm 31 btw

Paleodiet · 09/02/2021 00:05

I haven't bought any clothes in the last year but when I did; Gap, Zara, Fatface, M & S for basics, Reiss (special occasions), John Lewis and charity shops. I am in my mid 60s.

wowier · 09/02/2021 00:10

I don't like sea salt or Boden styling & have never shopped in Next. I also don't like bad quality. I do like Cos but I tend to buy cheaper designer brands from Matches etc now.

PattyPan · 09/02/2021 00:17

eBay mostly! I am younger than you but never really went in for Topshop style although I used to shop a lot at H&M until I watched The True Cost. When I buy new it’s mostly from Thought or People Tree.

mayandjuniper · 09/02/2021 00:21

Etsy has some brilliant shops- Metaformose, Ginny and Jude, Timeless Linen Shop are all amazing, amongst many others.

Love Zara and sometimes H&M (quality can vary). Cos is good for some stuff but other things are really random.

Anywhere for jeans- Topshop, Zara, ASOS- doesn't really matter.

Comptoir Des Cotonniers is great but they're currently not shipping to the UK. Whistles and Reiss can be okay, though their quality has dipped massively.

mayandjuniper · 09/02/2021 00:22

Also love M&S for true basics, like cashmere jumpers (I'm young and stylish, honest!)

RacheyCat · 09/02/2021 00:30

Massimo Dutti and COS in the sale. I just leave what I want in my online shopping basket and periodically check back to see if it's reduced yet.

Mango and Zara.

Muji for the occasional minimalist piece.

Oysho for summer clothes and loungewear.

H&M for their knitted linen t-shirts and vests, but not for much else these days.

EuphieKat · 09/02/2021 02:03

Joules/Fat Face/White Stuff/Sea Salt/Brakeburn...but only in the sale or from eBay!

LocalHobo · 09/02/2021 02:31

Mango, Zara, All Saints and I buy lounging stuff from Next.
