To ask what you're doing for Valentines?

I am a bit of a romantic at heart but my partner, unfortunately, isn't (although he'd insist he is because he bought me flowers once Hmm )
His idea of a date night whether pandemic or not is a takeaway and a film, but we do that ALOT and I'd like it if we did something a bit different if possible.

Pre crazy covid times it would usually be me who'd book/ arrange something but obviously, we won't be going out to celebrate this year. We don't usually go crazy, just maybe a small cute/ funny gift and a "date night" (not on actual V day as it's always overpriced Grin) but I like to do something and I'd love it even more if he put the effort in for once Grin

I have mentioned a couple of times to my OH that maybe he could light some candles/ cook for a change and we could have a romantic meal-out-but-in type thing, but I imagine he'll completely forget and then order a takeaway so I was just hoping to hear others' ideas on how to have a romantic lockdown Valentines?

Do your OH's spoil you? Do you have plans? If so what are they?

Thanks

I don't have an OH any longer. I'm going to spend the evening watching a Burlesque show(on zoom) and drinking Champagne.

That sounds great, maybe I'll do the same! Grin

I'm not romantic on Valentine's DP definitely isn't a fan of Valentine's his excuse/reason is a great spouse all year round in his opinion we exchange cards mainly for the DC to see. Grin
Why not try a massage or dress up for the occasion.

CoRhona · 03/02/2021 17:19

I've ordered a hamper full of goodies as a treat. It's for two people but if he doesn't want any that's fine with me Grin

lurker101 · 03/02/2021 17:20

We’ve ordered a cook at home kit from one of our favourite places, and will crack open some champagne and watch a good show or film. Can’t wait

Janaih · 03/02/2021 17:22

My dh is more excited for pancake day.

CharlotteRose90 · 03/02/2021 17:22

My dp for me so I’ll be ordering a Chinese or Indian takeaway, getting some Krispy Kremes and having a film night

AgeLikeWine · 03/02/2021 17:23

Nothing. Same as every other year.

Valentine’s Day is commercialised nonsense, and we choose to opt out. I do need the marketing department of fucking Tesco to tell me when and how to express affection for my partner.

onlyconnect · 03/02/2021 17:30

This isn't for Valentine's specifically but could be. We're choosing different countries, cooking food from there, listening to music from that country and showing a YouTube walking tour of somewhere in that country while we eat.
We've really enjoyed it so far.

lurker101 · 03/02/2021 17:32

That sounds fab @onlyconnect are there any specific YouTube channels you would recommend? We do similar, but usually train tours or Food tours, so a walking tour would be a change

BeastOfBODMAS · 03/02/2021 17:34

Last year we planned a surprise date each. I organised a gin distilling workshop and he took us to see Sonic the Hedgehog at the cinema Grin

This year I have proposed similar. I think my surprise will involve a blanket fort, a SNES and a load of pop and snack food.
I will source a packet of roast chicken walkers crisps and hide them in the fridge as it’s the food he reminisces about from childhood leisure centre vending machines. (They have to be cold apparently).

I am hoping my surprise will involve a restaurant meal kit cooked by DH and getting dressed up and eating at the dinner table like people.

GreatExpectationalized · 03/02/2021 17:38

Had a disappointing Valentine's Day last year, this year I think I’ll do all the things I would have liked for myself... flowers, chocolate, bubbly, and a movie of my choice. I think I’ll be far happier this year. Grin

Sciurus83 · 03/02/2021 17:38

One of the local high end restaurants are doing an at home menu so we're having that. Will deck out the dining room about 20 candles, dress up, pretend we're at a nice restaurant

CarolEffingBaskin · 03/02/2021 17:39

Sod all. I can't bear Valentine's Day! Pile of commercialised shite.

iklboo · 03/02/2021 17:39

We normally don't do anything but it's been such a shit year we're going to get a posher takeaway than normal & have some fizz while listening to records (Grin) then watch a film or something.

SummaLuvin · 03/02/2021 17:40

We have ordered aktarathome.co.uk/product/pulperia-valentines-set-menu/ sold out now, but many chefs have similar boxes available for nationwide delivery.

Yes Valentines is commercial rubbish, and normally we don't even bother with cards, but having things to look forward to is what gets me through lockdowns. In this case the only people benefitting commercially is a local independent restaurant who need to help right now given they have been closed for months and months with no end in sight.

AuntieMarys · 03/02/2021 17:42

Dh is working but we will exchange gifts in the evening. We do good gifts 😀 Nice bottle of wine, something good to eat.

ConkerBonkers · 03/02/2021 17:43

We are cracking open a bottle of fizz, only drink three or four times a year so that's a treat in itself. We will eat some expensive steak which I will cook, eat chocolates, and watch a film. Nothing out of the ordinary, but really lovely nevertheless

TheBigFatMermaid · 03/02/2021 17:44

We have a family tea party planned. Me and two teens who love to cook will make some cakes, biscuits and sandwiches.
I've made a heart wreath out of pom poms for the front door. We have other decorations too.
No exactly 'traditional' but I feel the whole family needs something to look forward to at the moment.

DP isn't romantic, but he shown he loves me by always having a cuppa waiting when I get up in the morning and other things like that... Oh and he goes along with my bonkers plans to put the pom pom heart on the front door! 😂

onlyconnect · 03/02/2021 17:45

lurker101 no we just search YouTube for something that looks interesting.

MaelyssQ · 03/02/2021 17:45

When my DD was little, she turned her bedroom into a candlelit restaurant for two, and served us spaghetti bolognaise and Vimto. I will never forget that, it was so lovely. She had decorated her bedroom with cut out hearts and flowers. The spaghetti was out of a tin and cold because she wasn't allowed to use the cooker. Best Valentine's Day ever.

Sideorderofchips · 03/02/2021 17:47

I don't have an OH anymore. No doubt he will be busy with his slut

I will be doing nothing.

Lulu1919 · 03/02/2021 17:48

Usually grab a special dine in meal..Waitrose maybe
No big gifts
Small card
We have been married 30 years !!!

sapnupuas · 03/02/2021 17:48

Married.

Naff all.

Like every other Valentine's Day I've ever had.

CosyAcorn · 03/02/2021 17:49

We normally don't pay valentine's day much attention but this year, I'm looking forward to it breaking up the lockdown monotony.

I like the idea of getting dressed up and recreating a date night at home.

DH and I used to walk to our local pub on pay day, we'd each have a steak and share a bottle of wine. I'm tempted to suggest we recreate that vibe at home.
