To ask what you're doing for Valentines?

I am a bit of a romantic at heart but my partner, unfortunately, isn't (although he'd insist he is because he bought me flowers once Hmm )
His idea of a date night whether pandemic or not is a takeaway and a film, but we do that ALOT and I'd like it if we did something a bit different if possible.

Pre crazy covid times it would usually be me who'd book/ arrange something but obviously, we won't be going out to celebrate this year. We don't usually go crazy, just maybe a small cute/ funny gift and a "date night" (not on actual V day as it's always overpriced Grin) but I like to do something and I'd love it even more if he put the effort in for once Grin

I have mentioned a couple of times to my OH that maybe he could light some candles/ cook for a change and we could have a romantic meal-out-but-in type thing, but I imagine he'll completely forget and then order a takeaway so I was just hoping to hear others' ideas on how to have a romantic lockdown Valentines?

Do your OH's spoil you? Do you have plans? If so what are they?

Thanks

@Janaih

My dh is more excited for pancake day.
Sounds like me and my DH! 😂
Shoxfordian · 03/02/2021 17:51

We’re doing a box from Jason Atherton for the meal and exchanging presents. Dh will definitely have got me some flowers and he already bought the champagne.

pilates · 03/02/2021 17:52

I’m not romantic either. We used to get cards but I don’t think I’ll bother this year. Probably something nice to eat.

Hadn't considered it but now fancy a lovely cheesboard and red wine. Home made cocktails for later 😋.

lightand · 03/02/2021 17:55

My DH is a bit like yours op.
We generally get takeaway.
Also I buy the Valentines card. "Send" it to him. Then on the day, he "secretly" signs the same card and "sends" it back to me!
Our family thinks it is a nuts idea, but works for us!

SimonJT · 03/02/2021 17:55

Last year I spent the night in hospital as my son decided the stairs were a great playground, so hopefully this year will go to plan.

My son is staying at my friends on Saturday night, so our valentines will be early. I’ve bought my partner wine, a top and I’ve crochet him a card, the front has our dog on and the inside has a 🍆

We’re having a posh takeaway delivered and we’ve ordered a new 1,000 piece maths puzzle, so we’ve basicallt scheduled an argument.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 03/02/2021 17:57

Absolutely nothing. Valentine's Day is all a bit naff really.

Godimabitch · 03/02/2021 17:57

DH is cooking for me and I might make him a cake. We would usually do something nice but neither of us has the time or energy to work out some special at home romantic night.

Parkandride · 03/02/2021 18:00

Our wedding caterer do lovely meal kit boxes so we're getting one of those, we never go out for valentines but its nice to do something at home (ha like there's any other option right now)

Mrscutesmummy · 03/02/2021 18:03

One of my favourite things about being single is being able to completely ignore Valentine's Day with zero guilt/ thought of if you should get a card or a gift or whatever - it's fantastic Grin

Ladsladslads · 03/02/2021 18:04

I've ordered an M&S love sausage. I'm such a romantic

afaloren · 03/02/2021 18:04

We’ll get an M&S dine in and some fizz I expect. I might dress up nicely. Maybe even some make up! If I can remember how Grin

I’m very interested in this burlesque show on zoom idea Halo

CounsellorTroi · 03/02/2021 18:07

We will have a nice meal - probably takeaway - and champagne. I've got him some books.

PatchworkElmer · 03/02/2021 18:07

Small (silly) gift, card, and we’ll cook dinner together.

christmasathomeagain · 03/02/2021 18:08

Nice meal at home, usually 3 courses in the dining room with no children then drinks while watching a film.

We do presents and card, this will be our 20th valentines day 😍

AlexaPlayWhiteNoise · 03/02/2021 18:08

Nice meal, fizz (alcoholic or otherwise depending on the mood on the day). I might make us a charcuterie board actually. We'll go mad and have a pudding. Probably get each other a card, he buys me flowers quite regularly anyway.

Crocky · 03/02/2021 18:11

Nothing

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 03/02/2021 18:14

We usually do a nice meal or go out somewhere but not on the actual day itself as it's heaving and prices go up. One year we made the mistake of going to Bath Spa on the day itself, thinking a Sunday wouldn't be too mad. Wrong! Queues for miles, felt like we were on a conveyor belt and the romantic rooftop pool was people soup. Nice.

Last year we did go away to London to see a one off gig and then the Tutankhamun exhibition. Looking back at the year facing us and ongoing situation I'm glad we had that last hurrah as it were.

Anyway this year a grand total of bugger all! Maybe a takeaway. We don't do cards or gifts.

ShatnersWig · 03/02/2021 18:14

Shagging.

Abraxan · 03/02/2021 18:17

We don't really,celebrate Valentine's Day.
It's my birthday 2 days before, so the same weekend. We celebrate that over the weekend instead. Also the weekend before is the day we first got together - some 31 years ago this month - so tend to mark that.

My birthday weekend (Valentine's weekend) we don't have anything planned particularly. We will have a nice meal from the restaurant who currently does 4 course 'take aways' and a bottle of champagne. We'd normally go out for a meal.

We may swap cards on the day, but after so many years we don't always remember - on both sides at times!

I just Googled this. Very disappointed to find out it's some kind of food!
speakout · 03/02/2021 18:25

Nothing.

OH and I dislike valentines day.
A horrible forced sugary day.

whatsoccuringnow · 03/02/2021 18:26

Normally quite like valentine's as an excuse do drink fizz and go out for dinner. But I'm exhausted of doing special nights at home trying to make lockdown fun after xmas, NYE and 3 January birthdays. So giving valentine's a big old swerve this year
