To ask what you're doing for Valentines?

I am a bit of a romantic at heart but my partner, unfortunately, isn't (although he'd insist he is because he bought me flowers once Hmm )
His idea of a date night whether pandemic or not is a takeaway and a film, but we do that ALOT and I'd like it if we did something a bit different if possible.

Pre crazy covid times it would usually be me who'd book/ arrange something but obviously, we won't be going out to celebrate this year. We don't usually go crazy, just maybe a small cute/ funny gift and a "date night" (not on actual V day as it's always overpriced Grin) but I like to do something and I'd love it even more if he put the effort in for once Grin

I have mentioned a couple of times to my OH that maybe he could light some candles/ cook for a change and we could have a romantic meal-out-but-in type thing, but I imagine he'll completely forget and then order a takeaway so I was just hoping to hear others' ideas on how to have a romantic lockdown Valentines?

Do your OH's spoil you? Do you have plans? If so what are they?

Thanks

Haha haha

Been together for 17 years, married for 11.

Nothing

CallistoSol · 03/02/2021 18:33

@SimonJT

Last year I spent the night in hospital as my son decided the stairs were a great playground, so hopefully this year will go to plan.

My son is staying at my friends on Saturday night, so our valentines will be early. I’ve bought my partner wine, a top and I’ve crochet him a card, the front has our dog on and the inside has a 🍆

We’re having a posh takeaway delivered and we’ve ordered a new 1,000 piece maths puzzle, so we’ve basicallt scheduled an argument.

Oh my goodness, please elaborate... a crochet card with a dog on the front and an aubergine inside???? Is aubergine a euphemism here?? GrinWink
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/02/2021 18:35

Bugger all probably! I’m a single parent to two kids. Last year we were in Butlin’s on Valentine’s Day - now there’s no much we can do!

It’s a Sunday I think so maybe cook a nice meal.

Sammiesnake · 03/02/2021 18:36

I’m doing a Valentine’s themed breakfast for the toddlers (eggs with little heart shaped toasts) and they have a little present each. We’ll do yet another big walk somewhere and then in the evening, make pizzas together and we’re setting up a move night (have bought popcorn boxes and a film board) just for fun really. We never take Valentine’s seriously but have a bit of fun with the kids.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 03/02/2021 18:36

Nothing! I hate Valentine's day so we never mark it. This year will be the same.

MinnieMountain · 03/02/2021 18:37

MIL will be round for Sunday lunch as usual.

We never do anything for it anyway.

LazydaysofSummer · 03/02/2021 18:37

I've booked us a ticket for the mischief theatre company, they are doing a rom com improvised Mischief Movie Night. We've watched a few and they are usually a good laugh.

It's the team that do the geos wrong shows, we've seen a couple of their plays and had tickets for another last year, which has been postponed so happy to be able to support them whilst theatres are still closed and getting valentines entertainment as well!

Brunt0n · 03/02/2021 18:37

We are going to have a valentines afternoon tea with DD (she’s 2) and then a candlelit dinner just the two of us once she’s in bed.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/02/2021 18:39

Probably shag

Or go to Budapest

(Not really for both)

lockedownloretta · 03/02/2021 18:44

no idea
we always celebrate it-have bought a card

want to do something really lovely but haven't got any ideas yet

SirenSays · 03/02/2021 18:46

I love valentines day. I'm an any excuse to celebrate kinda person. We'll be doing a very special breakfast and exchange gifts. Then a hike to our favourite waterfall during the day. In the evening we'll have drinks out by the fire then come in for sushi and game night.

Twattergy · 03/02/2021 18:48

Have some duty sex?

ItsNotAlrightButItsOkay · 03/02/2021 18:49

We will be cooking a three course meal. Usually pate, steak & fries and then a nice pudding. We'll eat once kids are asleep.
Then we watch a funny film together. Usually Rom-com (4 years ago it was Bridget Jones baby)

SimonJT · 03/02/2021 18:49

@CallistoSol The idea was for it to have his two favourite things on. But your comment has made me realise that he may think its intended as a propostion 😬

We also do cards & presents. I love romance and he's the same
HangOnToYourself · 03/02/2021 18:54

Sadly I haven't seen my fella since before xmas due to lockdown (new relationship and he lives too far away to be my bubble). So we shall be spending it apart but tbh I dont really care about valentine's day anyway. I have added the morrisons valentines day meal for 2 to my online shop and will be enjoying that with DS instead Grin

FolkyFoxFace · 03/02/2021 18:56

I'm due soon, so it'll be our last one without kids. We'd wanted to get away somewhere, but obviously can't with Covid...and the weather is crap...so we're setting up a tent in the living room, bringing the plants and things in, popping fairy lights up, and having a very posh picnic, complete with forest sounds on the laptop. 😂

Bit daft, I know, but it'll be fun!

TomorrowsPrincess · 03/02/2021 18:57

I'm going to cook us a nice romantic meal..... light some candles and dress up in a nice little red dress (make sure the kids are pre-occupied on their consoles first)
I've ordered him a special teddy bear shaped cake, we'll probably have a glass of something and maybe an early night 😜
I love spoiling him and he doesn't know what I've got planned yet

bartelbyfinnegan · 03/02/2021 18:59

@AgeLikeWine

Nothing. Same as every other year.

Valentine’s Day is commercialised nonsense, and we choose to opt out. I do need the marketing department of fucking Tesco to tell me when and how to express affection for my partner.

Yes yes I know all this but it doesn't stop me wanting to join in 😂

I love the idea of a bit of romance, I never get it but it doesn't stop me dreaming!

longtompot · 03/02/2021 19:01

Probably a M&S Valentines meal deal with our two dds. We usually have this alone, but as it's a Sunday, and we usually have a roast, I thought a special meal together. Then I imagine my ed will then call her gf so we'll have the living room to ourselves for a film in front of the fire.

bartelbyfinnegan · 03/02/2021 19:03

There's some lovely ideas here thank you!

I'm not massively bothered if we don't end up doing anything but after the last few months it'd be nice to have something to look forward to.

NoCauseRebel · 03/02/2021 19:09

Nothing. Over commercialised pile of crap.

And TBH I wouldn’t be indulging any partner’s wish for Valentine’s Day presents/cards and the like.

I used to know a couple who used to go all out for valentines. Hotels with rose petals, fancy dinners, expensive champagne and jewellery etc etc etc. The rest of the year they talked about how much they hated each other and couldn’t wait to get divorced 😂

mootymoo · 03/02/2021 19:23

I have no ideas, any suggestions for meal boxes (better than hello fresh, not Rick stein?)

Only our second Valentine's, were away last year so ate at hotel, amazing meal, couldn't be more different stuck at home plus have my dd stuck here

Nohairofcourseicare · 03/02/2021 19:25

I hate Valentine’s Day, it’s so naff. I always feel embarrassed for anyone that gets proposed to then, it’s so contrived.

We make a fuss of birthdays and wedding anniversaries and that means much more.

Scottishskifun · 03/02/2021 19:31

We have ordered from the local pub for a cook at home meal (they have a fab restaurant). Good food and supporting local in the hope they survive!
