He did more in his last year than most of us manage in a lifetime.

Truly a life well lived.

Did you mean to use all those laughing emojis @480Widdio?

LadyfromtheBelleEpoque · 02/02/2021 16:46

An inspiration. Real strength of character that gave people something to focus on and a perspective to make sense of things.

RIP Captain Tom

LagneyandCasey · 02/02/2021 16:46

RIP Captain Tom. Thank you for everything you did to keep our spirits up during the past year. Thank you for inspiring myself and others to do everything we can to support our wonderful NHS. You are gone but will never be forgotten.

My heart goes out to your family and I hope they draw strength from the love everyone has for their father and grandfather.

rainbowstardrops · 02/02/2021 16:47

So, so sad. I'm absolutely gutted. When we had Captain Tom inspiring us and telling us that tomorrow will be a good day and now he can't do that any more, has stripped a layer of positivity from me.
God bless him. RIP

I can’t feel any annoyance at his holiday in Barbados, I hope he enjoyed it very much. Captain Toms suffering is now over.

lifeturnsonadime · 02/02/2021 16:49

No matter his age his life was prematurely cut short by coronavirus which is tragic.
His fundraising was inspirational and he was a true gentleman.

Rest in Peace Captain Tom.

Catchingfire123 · 02/02/2021 16:50

So sad to loose such a National hero!

Rafflesway · 02/02/2021 16:50

HerculePoirotsGreyCells · 02/02/2021 16:51

Rest well Captain Tom. I'm so sad it was covid in the end. He was such a morale booster and brought the nation together.

TheVolturi · 02/02/2021 16:52

Rest in peace Captain

Totallydefeated · 02/02/2021 16:52

I’m very sad to hear this, he’ll be a great loss. A true inspiration.

Lotusmonster · 02/02/2021 16:53

Do we know if he’d had a Covid jab?

WhatKatyDidNxt · 02/02/2021 16:54

Totally gutted. I rarely cry but this has got to me. What an amazing life and an inspiration. They don’t make them like that anymore.

Watercoloursky · 02/02/2021 16:55

@Lotusmonster No, he hadn't, as he was being treated for pneumonia.

Elderflower14 · 02/02/2021 16:55

@Lotusmonster

Do we know if he’d had a Covid jab?
He couldn't have the jab as he had pneumonia at the time he was due to have it.
DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 02/02/2021 16:56

I genuinely hope he enjoyed his holiday in Barbados. He has done a lot for this country and he absolutely deserved it. I cant see why people are so nasty about it, then, in the next breath finding any reason to actually break the rules themselves.

He lived a long and interesting life and was a very interesting man.

RIP Captain Tom Wine condolences to his family.

CantBeAssed · 02/02/2021 16:57

@Happygoeslucy...but he wasn't 25..he was 100...living each day was he last..a 25yr old can look to the future and make plans...100yr old cant..
So glad he got his trip to Barbados...its well he didnt put it off!

CantBeAssed · 02/02/2021 16:58

*living each day like it was his last

EarringsandLipstick · 02/02/2021 17:00

The video on that BBC link is really moving. 💔

Grendalsmum · 02/02/2021 17:01

There are little messages about him and what a good egg he is on all the bridges near me. He absolutely was ...

justasking111 · 02/02/2021 17:02

I am glad he went to Barbados and felt the sun on his face for the last time. He did a lot of good raising the money. Bless him.

MumW · 02/02/2021 17:03

We should instigate a one off national clap - if there is one thing he will be remembered for, it was bring the nation together, so what better way to send him off?
👏👏👏👏
