I’ll start.

So he’s been pretty good bless him, shit situation etc not knowing when he’ll be going back.

Using bowls that we don’t normally use because the rest are fermenting in his room.

Blocking the washing machine got 3 days with his washing, then handing it out over mine which is drying making my clothes and the room he has hung it in absolutely stink.

😭😭

I too thought you had a refugee living with you who goes to Uni...

CoalHouseDoor · 03/02/2021 13:03

@HyggaeHugger

I meant that being a student and therefore a savior of everything, I’m the lucky recipient of daily lectures on what’s racist, homophobic, xenophobic etc.

I’m assuming both my cooking and washing skills are just to save time...

Theunamedcat · 03/02/2021 13:24

Mine cried so the university let her back 🤣 (seriously i cant do shit around her brothers no way can she study) when she was here she slept on the sofa because she CBA to go to her room when i complained about a mess she ordered me takeaway so we wouldn't make more mess and stress me out

Playnoh · 03/02/2021 13:24

@Twistered

Oh my god! I'm sooooo sorry! I thought you were a uni student sharing with a refugee and being racist! Grin

I'm actually so bloody stupid . Wtf was I thinking Grin

Oh dear 😂😂😂😂😂
Maassi · 04/02/2021 01:35

I meal planned with mine and went shopping. Does she want anything on the bloody mealplan? No of course not. It's takeaway city here and she sees it as spoiling me.

Oh and the bloody 1am showers and baking. What the hell!

redpencil77 · 04/02/2021 01:41

@seaclaidte

Instead of moaning about it to random people on the Internet. Why dont you have a conversation with your guest.

There is nothing wrong with setting out house rules.

Also I have reported your post as spam.
Good day

How sad! She is having a conversation! About her DS and his inability to return to uni to take up a course that has, no doubt, cost him 4.5K so far plus rental which they all seem liable for when others don't.

What a poor start in life, I'm sorry to hear it, OP, he can't have the uni experience he has had to pay for. An amazing life changing opportunity which no doubt has worked very hard to achieve with such a poor beginning. Let's hope he and the rest can get back to uni life soon.

@Maassi

My uni refugee wakes up at 4pm... moans about essays to do which she does... and goes to bed at 3am. I think shes put her body clock into nightshift mode. Shes pretty well house trained though. Its just the dramatic hand to the forehead announcing she has EXAMS and do I want her to fail uni. No love I want you to wake up at normal people time so you have enough time and maybe even go for a daily walk. And I dont want you fucking walking into my room at 3am offering me snacks while I'm asleep! Angry
Uni life :)
babbaloushka · 04/02/2021 09:04

@Bouledeneige

I meant to say Prosecco queen is a nocturnal beast too. When she does have to get up early for a lecture she crawls back to bed afterwards or feels ill. It's terrible!

Some days her achievements stack up to dyeing her eyebrows and putting pink streaks in the front of her hair. That was a busy day.

And there's a constant stream of Amazon/eBay/depop bargains being delivered as she is saving money on her living expenses. Though she claims it's all Christmas money. The clothing is mostly short crop tops that she can't wear anywhere. She is currently doing a slap load of make up to go on a walk with me in the drizzley dusk.

Did your DD have a twin that was separated at birth? Mine has a very full schedule too, lots of practicing eyeliner and fake tanning.

The amount of packages she gets is astounding, I was beginning to think she might be running county lines in very small clothes. It makes me laugh when I spot a top in the wash that is genuinely smaller than what she would've worn at 18months.

babbaloushka · 04/02/2021 09:08

@mootymoo

I have a nocturnal dd. She's also clogging up washer/dryer for days and hoarding crockery. On the plus point she's cooking us dinner on Friday
Be wary, mine offered to cook Monday but was deeply unimpressed by the air fryer that we got while she was away. Seems to think that living away from home has given her unrivalled domestic prowess and I couldn't possibly know how to use the kitchen anymore...
babbaloushka · 04/02/2021 09:11

@Frodont

Had an anguished text last night at 1am. "Are you awake???". She's been quite stressed over uni work so I got up and went to her room. "Sorry, but I really need you to approve the amazon prime login so I can watch a film on my laptop"

😒

The constant "mum where's my left sock", "have you seen my -obscure item from 4 years ago-", "who's moved the plate of crumbs from under my bed", "whats the Netflix password" I definitely haven't missed!
MissConductUS · 04/02/2021 09:19

Leaving dirty dishes in the sink. Leaving used glasses on the counter "in case he wants to use them again.

Putting every stitch of clothing he wore that day into the washing machine every night, even if they are still perfectly clean.

I'm still glad to have him home. He's doing an internship remotely this semester.

InMySpareTime · 04/02/2021 10:08

DS has found an amazing life hack to ensure he is awake for his 9am lectures.
Go to sleep for the afternoon, play Xbox until midnight, nap for an hour or two to recharge, then stay up all night/morning until after the lecture.

Tanith · 04/02/2021 10:31

Mine wants me to turn my alarm clock down because it's waking him up too early Grin

We have already had several constructive words about the washing machine schedule so that issue is fixed now.
We probably need to revisit the showering conversation fairly soon...🤢

Belladonna12 · 04/02/2021 10:31

Mine went back after Christmas. Apart from first years, I'm surprised many didn't. Why stay at home with parents rather than live with friends?

My DD, who is in her first year, was remote in the fall because her uni was completely remote. They've opened up at 60% capacity for the spring semester, so she is on campus. DS is home because he's doing a full-time remote internship, so it doesn't matter where he does it from. We save $7000 not paying for room and board and he says the food is much better here.

Mine is in Wales and lockdown was so harsh that all her mates and boyf went home. She's also enjoyed being waited on hand and foot for a couple of months. She had covid in November so felt pretty run down.
Maassi · 04/02/2021 12:12

Mine is still in bed. But active on messenger every so often. Yet another parcel has arrived for her.

Muuuuu---uuum. Is that for me? Could you bring it up please?

No.. get your lazy arse out of bed and come downstairs.

But... I said please

Yesterday she had delivered a small roll of bubble wrap from amazon which came in the normal enormous box. And a smaller parcel where the item was protected by a mountain of... bubble wrap Grin

This was her face Confused

I said apart from first years. Clearly, if people are in halls and will get the money back then it is worth staying at home. Older students in private accommodation will not get the money back.

DS is in his third of four years. Like the vast majority of university students in the US, he was in university-owned housing and on their dining plan until this semester. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 04/02/2021 16:22

Burning copious amounts of incense in an attempt to be zen but watching Netflix till 2am and the complaining about being tired.

Came in to my bedroom at midnight when she saw my light on. I thought she wanted a chat so settled in to listen to the usual “this is shit” moan when in fact she wanted my opinion on the 29472 items (not exaggerating) in her SHEIN basket Hmm

cigarettesanddisappointment · 04/02/2021 16:56

Mine has become nocturnal too, only gracing us with his presence for food and/or hogging the tv (his is still in halls). He's decided to run a marathon this year (?!) so there have been many, many deliveries of various items of kit and training aids; so far, not one actual run has happened. He's also "invested" some of his money in stocks so now thinks he's The Wolf of Wall Street 😂. On the plus side, he did do half of the washing up yesterday - apparently he couldn't see the plates that weren't exactly next to the sink.
I do feel sorry for them though; this is not the university experience that they've been looking forward too. Who wants to spend their freshers year living with their parents?!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 04/02/2021 17:10

Love the use of 'Good Day'. That should go on the good things about British culture thread!
Mine use every towel in the house and then put them all in the wash after I nag at the same time. I've taken to hiding towels in my bedroom so I have a clean one for my shower.
Also cooking garlicky things at 3am and then letting the bowls fester in their bedroom.
Telling me that all my opinions make me a Karen. I'm sending him back to uni whether it's open or not if he doesn't stop with that one!
Using all the coffee in the cafetiere, preventing me from having a second cup.

My kids are all living the dream here - they are never going to leave Grin
